Location: Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB) is a 905 acre (366 ha) military installation, located in Southeast Washington, D.C., established on 1 October 2010 in accordance with congressional legislation implementing the recommendations of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission.
The legislation ordered the consolidation of Naval Support Facility Anacostia (NSF) and Bolling Air Force Base (BAFB), which were adjoining, but separate military installations, into a single joint base - one of 12 joint bases formed in the country as a result of the law.
Coast Guard Station Washington, D.C., is located on the base, next to the Capitol Cove Marina.
Cost of Living: About 53% above the national average with housing costs accounting for much of the index. The closer to D.C. you live, the more expensive it is to live.

Population: JBAB has active duty, family members, civilian employees, guard reserve and retirees as part of their community.
Child Development Centers: Children ages 6-weeks to 5-years can receive full-time weekly care at one of three Child Development Centers located on base. Rooms for infants, pre-toddlers, toddlers, 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds are available. There is a part-day enrichment program for 3- and 4-year-olds as well. A kindergarten class is also provided.
Schools: JBAB Housing area is zoned for DC Public Schools, Ward 8. There is a school transportation option at JBAB for students who live on base. Families with school age children should contact the School Liaison Officer for more specific information on area schools. More information can be found on the following websites:
Housing: JBAB is located in southeast D.C. Local areas considered within a 60-minute commute of base during rush hour traffic include the entire area of D.C., nearly all of Prince Georges County, small portions of Anne Arundel, Calvert,Charles and Montgomery Counties in Maryland, as well as the city of Alexandria, most of Fairfax County and all of Arlington County in Virginia. Finding a home off base is fairly easy, however, the associated costs may be higher than what you are currently paying. Pets routinely require a substantial deposit in many local area rentals.
