Location: Located in both Geary and Riley counties, Fort Riley is located in northeastern Kansas, one hour west of Topeka, the state capitol. The two primary local towns are Junction City (mostly a military town) and Manhattan (Home to Kansas State University). There are a number of other small towns and a great deal of rural and farm land in the area. Kansas City is 2 ½ hours away and is home to the Kansas City Chiefs. Those who live in the local communities are friendly and helpful. The area is “laid back” with a suburban lifestyle and pace making it great for raising children. Fort Riley is home to 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division (Mechanized); 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division (Mechanized); Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion; 1st Combat Aviation Brigade; 1st Infantry Division Divarty; Headquarter and Headquarters Company, U. S. Army Garrison; 1st Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade; 10th Air Support Operations Squadron; and the 97th Military Police Battalion.

Schools: Five Elementary schools and a Middle school on post run by Geary County Unified School District 475. Additional local school districts include: Manhattan/Ogden, Clay County, Riley County and Chapman USD 473. Contact the Fort Riley School Liaison Office, 785-240-3261 for information.

Housing: On-post family housing is privatized housing and managed by Corvias Military Living. There are six neighborhoods on post. Family Housing at Fort Riley is assigned by rank and bedroom qualification. The time on the wait list vary depending on rank and bedroom qualifications.
