Balboa Naval Hospital, also known as Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD), is located in the heart of San Diego's beautiful Balboa Park. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive military medical centers in the world, with nearly every kind of doctor and specialist available. The hospital provides medical care to active duty, dependents, and retirees. Facilities include a 272-bed hospital, 18 operating rooms, 2 Fisher Houses, 2 gyms, basketball and volleyball courts, and a softball field.This Balboa Naval Hospital directory features the critical info you’ll need to navigate through the many facilities and recreational opportunities available on base.
SERVICES
NMCSD is accredited by the Joint Commission. More than 250,000 San Diego residents are eligible for care at NMCSD, with nearly 100,000 beneficiaries enrolled. NMCSD staff is comprised of more than 6,500 military, civilian, contractor and volunteer personnel. In addition , NMCSD has the only Navy Medicine amputee center in the Western Pacific, has been recognized for many of its clinical and research programs, including refractive surgery, post-traumatic stress, and hearing and balance disorders. NMCSD personnel proudly deploy to support US Military Hospital Kuwait, the I and III Marine Expeditionary Forces, numerous humanitarian missions afloat and ashore and as individual augmentees. Recently, the NMCSD staff has been recognized for excellence by such organizations as the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Athena International and the San Diego Business Journal.

When I first visited San Diego with my husband and daughter, we spent a great deal of time at Balboa Park . This is one of my favorite parks. There is so much to do and see, whether you are into Museums, Art, Culture, food, running, hiking, playing or just a day at the Zoo. I can't get enough of this place.
