[This is Part 2 in a series about places to live near in Hampton Roads, Virginia.]
House hunting in the military is always stressful and the first question we ask ourselves is "Where Should I Live?"
Whether you are stationed at Norfolk Naval Base (NOB), Portsmouth Naval Hospital, NAS Oceana, or Portsmouth Shipyards, there are a lot of fun areas to visit while living in Hampton Roads. If you are PCSing to Hampton Roads soon, you might want to check out these different areas when house hunting. Lots of military families live near these great landmarks.

#3 Shore Drive Area
Virginia Beach, VA
Shore Drive Area is located on the water of the Chesapeake Bay. When looking on a map, 'shore drive area' is typically Shore Drive between the Lessner Bridge and First Landing State Park. This area is very desirable because it's close to the water and has lots of restaurants and nightlife. It's known for being a 'locals spot' and it's a great place to grab a bite to eat away from the tourism of Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Some of my favorite restaurants are Hot Tuna, Shore Break, Guadalajara Mexican, Lynnhaven Fish House, Pier Cafe, Tropical Smoothie and much more. Some great restaurants that are on the water and have boat access are Chix's Oyster Bar, Bubba's, Surf Rider, and Dock Side. Lots of locals and military live in this area. It is predominately condos, but there are some single family homes as well. Since it's so close to the water, a fun locals spot, and pulls from some of the best schools in Virginia Beach, housing prices are high but definitely worth it.

#4 First Landing State Park
Virginia Beach, VA
First Landing State Park is off Shore Drive on the Chesapeake Bay, near Fort Story. It has great running, walking and biking trails with unique changing plant life as you travel further into the park. Definitely visit this park for outdoor activities. There's even a boat ramp and tiny beach inside the park! Check out more at www.first-landing-state-park.org
