Whether your soldier is stateside or abroad, sometimes you just have to get away with the girls and let your hair down. While Fort Campbell may sometimes feel as if in the middle of nowhere, a short 50 mile jaunt down I-24 East will land you in bustling Nashville, Tennessee. If you’re looking to get away for the day with your best girls, a ladies' day trip to Nashville is the perfect adventure.
Located in the Green Hills area of Nashville, Hill Center is one of my favorite spots to spend a Saturday afternoon. This preppy chic shopping nirvana features popular clothing brands like Lululemon, Francesca’s, Vera Bradley, Vineyard Vines, and Anthropologie, plus the furniture fanatic favorite, West Elm. If you’re crazy for quirky gifts, cards, and gorgeous paper products, Paper Source is a must stop shop (Really, I can’t even explain how obsessed I am with this place).
Does your agenda include spa treatments? Pop on over to The Cosmetic Market where their service menu includes facials, peels and waxing. After all of that shopping and relaxing you’re sure to work up an appetite. California Pizza Kitchen, Pei Wei, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, and Zoës Kitchen are all open for lunch. Top off the day with a treat from Sweet Cece’s Frozen Yogurt or Whole Foods Market bakery before heading home and you’ll be singing a sweet tune all the way back to Clarksville!
Off the beaten path in East Nashville tucked between 10th and 11th on Fatherland Street you’ll find the Shoppes on Fatherland. This new area minutes from downtown features adorable retail shops boasting unique finds and local goods. Kick off your day with some well-deserved pampering at Wax Nashville/The Nail Lounge at Wax Nashville, where they offer a 10-20% military discount (see store for details). Not only do they offer fabulous treatments like “The Queen Bee” and “Butter Me Up”, but their staff is warm and welcoming, creating a perfect atmosphere to kick up your heels and chat with your girls. Pamper yourself long after the day is through with local bath, beauty, and hair products found a few doors down at Pretty Pretty Pop Pop (try their Aquarius candle…the smell is heavenly!).
Don’t forget to stop into Baxter Bailey & Company to pick up something for your pooch (wine for dogs, anyone?). While you’re in the area, travel a few blocks over and enjoy a bite to eat at Marché Artisan Foods. Reasonably priced, adorably decorated and absolutely delicious, this European style café serves up creative plates for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Last but absolutely not least, what ladies day out would be complete without shoe shopping…or shall I say boot shopping? Cowboy boots are a Nashville staple (and look fabulously Southern with a sundress or jeans). Head on down to Boot Country on Broadway downtown where the boots are always ‘Buy 1, Get 2 Pair Free’.
So shop ‘til you drop, get beautified and boot-ified, and enjoy a day devoted to you with a ladies' day out in Nashville; after all it is true what they say, the wife has the toughest job in the Army.
