Hampton Roads traffic is something you have to pay attention to, especially if it involves a tunnel. The most important thing to know about Hampton Roads traffic is how to avoid tunnel traffic. There are 4 tunnels that back up everyday during rush hours and it's helpful to know where to live to be able to avoid this mess. On the map below, I have included all the bases and tunnels. It's important to note that Norfolk Naval Station is at the Northwest Tip of Hampton Roads, so many people have to use the tunnel system to get to work. A fun beach day at Naval Station Mayport beach When you are stationed at Naval Station Mayport , naturally, one of the main things to do is to go to the beach. With miles and miles of various types of beach experiences, you have a lot of options. I was typically going to the beach with my kids because my dear husband was constantly working or deploying during our 3-year department head tour there. A1A Beachfront Avenue! (now you're singing Ice Ice Baby) One of the neatest things a fellow Navy spouse introduced me to was hunting for shark teeth on A1A Beach. During the 7 years we spent stationed at Naval Station Mayport , we managed to collect a jar of shark teeth. It is one of the neatest things we have as a reminder of our days on the Atlantic coast.
