After living for a while at Fort Benning, I'm sure you will hear all about Callaway Gardens. About 35 minutes north of Columbus, the area offers many fun outdoor activities. There is a golf course, a sand-beach lake, outdoor games, volleyball, hiking trails, a fantastic farmer's market, and a butterfly museum. My husband and I spent several afternoons biking through the woods, and at Christmas time, they host a really large Christmas lights exhibit. I definitely recommend spending some time there, especially during the summer.
Now, onto my favorite part... right outside of Callaway Gardens is a small town called Pine Mountain. If I could have gone here every weekend, I would have. There are several antique and local art shops, as well as the most adorable bakery/cafe I could have ever hoped to find in this part of Georgia. It's called Rose Cottage and occupies a charming little house, where they sell the most delicious, freshly baked bread. I loved coming here to unwind after hiking.

  • How would you describe this Area of Town: Outdoor Activities, Parks and Recreation
  • Recommendations: It's a fantastic place to visit, but far too long of a commute. Don't live here, but visit often!
