Silver Spring: Off Base Area of Town

Review

"Connecticut Avenue Estates is Great for Walter Reed and other DC job sites"

If you are a young person or couple just starting out, and you work in Washington, DC, Connecticut Avenue estates is an economical place to rent or buy. You can catch the Metro buses, you are just a couple of miles from the Red Line of the Metro, and you are near Kensington, Wheaton Mall, Aspen Hills Shopping Center, Silver Spring, and more. Living in this subdivision, nestled in the corner of Connecticut Avenue and Veirs Mill Road, gives you direct access via "Conn" to 495. So, this is super close to Walter Reed. Of course, once you are on 495, it is a simple matter to get into DC from any of the exits. This means all that DC offers is practically at your doorstep.

When I lived at 11915 Centerhill Street, Silver Spring, MD, it took me 23 minutes to get to Tysons Corner, VA (lots of businesses, and great upscale and mid-scale shopping) by car. Not bad.

I loved living in this area as a single person. This is in Montgomery County, MD, which has historically had great public schools. My neighbors sent their kids to a local private school. I am not really in the schools market anymore. To be fair, I tend to think homeschooling can be a great option no matter where you live in the US, so I admit that bias.

We live in Silver Spring, MD and the commute is long. My husband commutes to Andrews Air Force Base and it takes him about 30 minutes without traffic and an hour with traffic. Keep in mind, there is more traffic when living on the Maryland side of DC and commuting into the city.

Living in the Silver Spring area you are so close (by car or Metro) to Washington, D.C. There are very few areas you can live where you are this close to the most amazing city in our country. Amazing in that you can find that small, intimate corner of the city to the crazy, populated political gathering in the National Mall area.
