Fort Drum: Off Base Area of Town

"Quiet Town"

Lots of activities to do in the town and next town over. Ski, snowmobile, cross country skiing, ice skating in the winter. Boating, Zoo, hiking trails, swimming at the state parks. Our local library has many activities for the entire family. Numerous churches to choose from. Favorite hot spots for food. ex. Jreck subs, The Apollo Restaurant for greek food, Crystal Restaurant for great comfort food, Art's Jug for Italian food, Pete's, and Shorty's for old time Diner food. Water ways are close to launch a boat or just go camping. Lots to do, lots to see.

The Fort Drum area is very rural, but aside from the long winter it is very picturesque. Also there are no trashy bars or strip clubs nearby which is nice. The winter is very long.. I thought the snow was pretty at first but I am over it now. Watertown (nearest town) is very small, but there is a mall, some chain restaurants, and a movie theater. If you are an outdoorsy person you may like it here. There are a lot of nearby places to go hiking and swimming when the weather is decent. Canada is very close. For a fun weekend trip try Kingston or Ottawa. Ottawa is my favority, it is like a very friendly European city. Very clean, with nice restaurants and shops.

  • Recommendations: As far as choosing this post, I think you need to be an outdoorsy type person to enjoy living here, and not be scared of cold weather. Otherwise it will be a very long stay. I love doing outdoor things but because of the weather I can't wait to leave.
