"Still in Austin"

Austin's rental market is absurd (2012). You have to be willing to get a cashier's check within minutes of seeing a house and without weighing pros and cons or even seeing a lease. That said, we chose our location based on proximity to the University of Texas and a preschool we wanted our son to attend. We don't like our house, BUT I think there are nice houses around the area. The homes are all older, but many have been renovated. The community has parks and pools (best kid pool EVER!), and we have very friendly neighbors. We're on the northern edge of Austin, and traffic is no joke around here. We try to stay off the roads when we expect traffic, and it seems to work. We are very close to green areas with plenty of hiking and outdoor opportunities. The community is very close to grocery stores, small shops, restaurants, and the highway.

Pros Cons
  1. close to hiking
  2. great community pools and parks
  3. close to shopping and restaurants
  1. older homes
  2. no HOA
