Excellent school with teachers who truly care about education as well as shaping the young men and women who attend. They take an interest in who they are inside and outside of the classroom. I am astounded when I go to piano recitals, sporting events, and Scout awards nights and see teachers there, on their off days, supporting these kids. I hear about the teachers who open their classrooms to students before and after school and during their free periods. What a great example of being not just a teacher but a mentor!
Great choice of AP classes, out of the ordinary electives, many clubs, and sports available. There truly is something for every interest. Dual enrollment is also offered with the local community college. Technical school is an encouraged choice as well.
COVID rules have been instituted as needed. They did a GREAT job of limiting COVID exposure even at the height of the spread while still allowing families to choose between in person or remote schooling.
I've been so impressed with nearly everything at Chelsea. So many more opportunities than other schools I hear about through other parents. A free computer for every kid is unheard of elsewhere. Learning trips to DC, Florida, Spain, etc, while not attainable for all financially, are available. Additional fundraising for these never being offered would be my only complaint. It would be great if all the students who want to go and are willing to work hard could earn at least some of the funds through fundraising assisted by the school/county/faculty.
With that said, a scholars bowl group from Chelsea won their local and state competition and were headed to the national competition. They were allowed to send letters requesting financial support from community members. One of the faculty sponsored the kids to travel to Kentucky for a week to compete. The school is in a great community that supports them!
My son says the school does not have a bad problem with cliques or bullying. I haven't heard of any issues with those at least as long as he has been at t ht e school.

I am a student at Chelsea and I think this school is just average. Out of my 8 teachers I only like 2 of them. I am in mostly honors and ap classes and the teachers don't know how to teach. Whenever someone asks my ap history teacher a question, she doesn't know the answer and has to look it up. One of my other teachers is never there and showed up late on the day of our semester exams without even making the test. Even after this the teacher wasn't fired. Even when he is here he "doesn't feels like doing anything" so we just sit there. The pe coaches just sit on their phones, and make us walk around the gym everyday. The teachers also pick favorites and the same students get the same 5 awards every year. Bullying isn't really a big issue, but some of the upperclassmen that I have classes with make crude and inappropriate comments about teachers and other students. There are definitely cliques and pretty much half the school is on drugs. Football is the most popular sport and unless you're a cheerleader, no one pays attention to girls sports. They also don't have enough room, half of the classes are in trailers. This is inconvenient and not safe because the doors lock but you can just yank them open. Overall, this school doesn't do a good job encouraging students to learn or challenge themselves, and lacks the appropriate funding.

Inflated test scores only due to location and sample of the populace, covers up what is really a failing school, at least, one that is failing its students. Alternatively draconian in policy, conservative in allowances, sparse in electives. Does little to prepare students for the rigors of college, operates more as teenage daycare than any sort of enrichment.

This is our first year attending Shelby County schools and the experience has been good. The teachers communicate well via edmodo and email. The transition from one school system to Shelby County was a little tough at first but with the help of the Counselors, Teachers and Coaches my child adjusted very well.

the test scores look good, but the school isnt so good. the teahcers are rude and dont communicate and barely can really help you. they just go with the flow of what the governemnt says. theres better educ. out there. the students are disrespectful to everyone including teachers. and the hallways are full of transgression. its terrible. plus, the discipline has gone down hill so that may be why its gotten bad.the lack of courses makes it hard to be challenged and to go after more because i dont feel challenged at all. the sports is all about football and maybe guys basketball so sorry girls and baseball and soccer. its so clickish and ten times worse than the normal cuz ive been to two schools in the last 4 years and chelsea has been the worst. ive never been so ready to move again.

Some teachers are nice and seem to care but the rest have no respect for the students and make the time at school miserable. Zero stars if possible and I don't think parents should comment on these school because they don't go to school there and they only see the fake smiles. They don't really know anything about this school.

My kids attended Chelsea Elementary, Mt. Laurel Elementary, Chelsea Intermediate, Chelsea Middle and are currently in Chelsea High School. These are all great schools. I am so proud of our schools in the Chelsea area and the dedication of the teachers. I did not dedicate time, but did donate money because I knew how it would be spent! Chelsea High students are eligible for the School of Technology and offers the only Cisco Networking program in the entire State of Alabama. Thank you for educating our kids with the low tax base we pay in Chelsea, AL!

Chelsea high school is very good and has improved drastically in the past two years. It others courses that students can excel in and has teachers that are fun, cool, good, and teach. Chelsea offers a brilliant band program with some all state musicians, state wide recognized artists, brilliant theatre program, and the football team does fairly well for now being in the region with Spain park and oak mountain. Expect highly of this school. Lots of new teachers, and good principal
