Our child was bullied throughout the year despite repeated reporting to teachers/school leadership. When I reported bullying concerns about an upcoming overnight trip, I was ignored and my child was severely bullied all night. When I asked why the school didn't follow their own bullying procedures, I was told my child's bullying didn't reach the "threshold" where the procedures would be followed; I was also given a list of reasons the school was not responsible for what happened and told I had no reason to be upset. We're a military family that has attended both public and private schools; we have never witnessed the kind of behavior that certain students are allowed to engage in without consequence in MA's classrooms (in front of staff): accusing other students of being gay, constant comments about students' economic backgrounds, and sexist comments like "women belong in the kitchen." We suspect the varying behavior standards may be tied to school donations. We do not recommend MA.

We have moved many times throughout our daughters school career. This school has been the most welcoming school they have ever attended. The education they received was incredible and I truly believe the education they received here has set them up for a future of higher academic learning. This school has developed a strong sense of character for both of my children and enforced outstanding values for the future. The staff are some of the warmest and friendliest people we have ever met. This school has made a lasting impact on our family and we will miss it dearly.

The homework my Upper School student received was effective in helping her better learn the material she was currently being taught in class.
My Lower School student did not receive homework often, however, when she did it was to help her work on areas she was struggling with in class.
I found both schools to be effective in how they handled homework. I also appreciated that the students are given coach classes to help them with homework questions parents are unable to answer.

My kids had excellent teachers that seemed to actually care about the students learning the material. I feel the teachers taught the students the material and they were not just teaching them to pass a test. Both of my students walked away from this school year having actually learned.

The leadership at the school was quite effective in making the students feel welcomed and included. The staff was always kind and generous with their time and made you feel part of the campus. My kids felt at home and safe the moment they walked into the school. The Leadership went out of their way to remember their names and address all of us warmly.

This is an outstanding school which offers students a wide-ranging curriculum which includes 20+ AP courses. But beyond that academic plenty, the school also fosters honor, integrity, and leadership as critical components of the well-equipped student. I gladly send my son to this school every day. I know he will be safe, taught and nurtured by amazing faculty and staff, and encouraged to be the best individual he can become.

MA has spent the past 50 years educating some of the best and brightest young people in the Montgomery area. It provides, in my opinion, the best mix of academics and extracurricular activities (athletic, dramatic, and other types) for its students. Taken individually, in any given year, there are other nearby schools that can equal or exceed MA in a discrete arena here or there, but MA manages to consistently pursue the complete excellence of its students in a way that nurtures their whole selves rather than just their rote-memory command or their ability to run a forty-yard dash. In other words, MA provides an enriching and intimate environment for the boys and girls who attend -- each class member is appreciated for his or her unique set of skills. I look forward to my daughter's someday calling herself a proud MA alumna.

Anyone who says MA isn't one of the finest independant schools in the country hasn't seen enough. As a military family, we chose to enroll our son in the Lower School in 2004. It was the best decision we've ever made. He was only able to stay for 2 years due to us having to move out of state, but for the last 5 years, he's wanted nothing more than to return to MA. This year, we moved back to Montgomery and promptly enrolled him and his younger sister. It was as though he had never left. The students at MA are polite, intelligent and welcoming to new students. The new Middle School Director is probably one of the finest administrators I've ever had the pleasure of working with. The faculty at MA has bent over backwards to ensure our two children feel welcome and safe. The academics? It's tough, but reasonable. The projects are challenging but not silly. The extra cirricular activities are fun and purposeful. Team sports? If your kid wants to play, they will find a spot for him on the team (within reason...) If you want to drop your kid off at school everyday with a smile on his or her face, choose MA. You won't be disappointed.
