Approximately seven months ago, our autistic grandson reported that a teacher had squeezed him so hard on his arms and legs and held him down in a way he described as painful. We immediately brought our concerns to school administration. During those discussions, the director acknowledged observing him being held down by the teacher.

Prior to this, there had already been multiple documented safety incidents involving our grandson at the school, including being struck in the face with a metal shovel on one occasion which resulted in swelling and a laceration on his face and having rocks thrown at his head also injuring him on another. These incidents were separate events and were reported to us by the school at the time they occurred but brushed off.

After we raised concerns regarding student safety and restraint practices, both our grandson and granddaughter were removed from the school. In addition, prepaid tuition funds were not returned.

Every child deserves to feel safe and supported at school, especially children with additional support needs. Families can make their own decisions, but we believe parents deserve transparency when evaluating whether this environment is appropriate for their children.

We understand that every story has multiple perspectives, but this was our familys documented experience.

We are wrapping up our first year at Dothan Montessori and we couldnt be happier with the progress our son has made and the love and care his teachers pour into him.

We have seen our child blossom at DMS! I cannot imagine her attending anywhere else! Wonderful, loving, and experienced teachers. 100% recommend!

My family had an extremely poor experience at this school. A new director runs the school every year and guides also known as teachers do not stay. The cost is reasonable for a Montessori school, unfortunately they lack accreditation and training.
Through the years, there have been good teachers. I cannot make this statement for the current year.

These people work extremely hard during personal and professional time to improve this school and the lives and experiences of their students.

My child has been at Dothan Montessori School for two years now and we LOVE it. It's a very nurturing environment that encourages independence, confidence, self-discovery and curiosity. At four years old she's reading and writing and is very interested in science, especially learning about animals, plants, our oceans and solar system. It's such personalized instruction from wonderful teachers; I have not doubt she is receiving top quality education at DMS.
