We are in our 4th year of having children at Huntsville Junior High School, and the future is brightening every day. The current administration is fantastic, and the students are excited about learning. The faculty are committed to creating a safe and nurturing atmosphere. This school has come a long way from where they were a few years ago, and were absolutely committed and excited to send our next two children there in the coming years.

Our child is near completion of his first year at Huntsville Junior High School, and we have been pleasantly surprised. The school community is very welcoming and offers a positive environment for students and families alike. Our 7th-grader took all advanced/honors core classes which I highly recommend. The Civics/Geography teacher blew us away and was arguably one of our son's favorite, most effective, engaging teachers he has had in his eight years of formal schooling. Science class was also a highlight. Our son has enjoyed a vibrant social life and feels pride for his school/classmates/teammates. We would choose HJHS for our son again and look forward to a successful 8th grade year. GO BIG RED!!!

My son has attended Huntsville Junior High School for the past two years, and weve had a great experience. I was initially worried about how middle school would go for him, but he's made lots of friends at HJHS. There are interesting and challenging courses offered. I highly recommend the advanced classes. I appreciate that the HJHS teachers have high expectations for the students. My son, who was never particularly focused on academics, is now entering high school actually wanting to take all honors/advanced and AP classes next year. Were very pleased with the education and overall environment at HJHS. Go Big Red!

My granddaughter attended Huntsville Junior High School this school year and she has had a wonderful year. Her teachers have been caring and academically challenging. HJHS has a great spirit of camaraderie among the students and appears to have the same camaraderie among the faculty and staff. I've been impressed with how active and supportive the PTA is at Huntsville Junior. Because of the positive experience our family has had at HJHS, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to any family who's looking for a safe and rewarding school experience for their adolescent child.

Dr. Obert went above and beyond to help my son with special needs fit in. The teachers make extra efforts to make sure his IEP was met and some. Shout out to Mrs. Carter as a fantastic case manager!

Overall terrible school. Some classes go months without a teacher, just sit in the cafeteria with an administrator babysitting learning science from a computer program. Have 3 classes with if students in PE, no room to exercise, surprise surprise when fights break out. Kids vape and worse in the bathroom. No one cares. Administration does everything they can to avoid accommodating special needs students, even to the point of misleading parents.

HJHS has come a long way in a few short years. The administration is great and we feel heard as parents. The teachers have high expectations and expect a lot from their students. My child enjoys going to school and enjoys the after school sports.

As with any school you are going to have a few weak teachers, but my eighth grader has had two years of incredibly strong math teachers and social studies teachers in particular.

Mr. Hicks is amazing! He understands that students need and want to know where the limits are. From day one he has been clear about expectations and consequences. Establishing a no cell phone policy this year has been life changing. Mr. Hicks also understands that part of discipline is looking for ways to reward students and motivate them to do better. HJHS is in great hands with Mr. Hicks at the helm!

Coming from a small school my son was nervous entering seventh grade. How much homework would he have? Would he get lost? How scary would it be? From day one he has had a positive experience. We are thankful for the incredible faculty and staff supporting our students!

Each time I ask a teacher a question about my child's schoolwork, it is days before I get a response. You can follow the grades online but the teachers sometimes grade papers/tests/projects well after the day it was completed.

The kids run the school. The mentality seems to be "stop, or I'll say stop again". The staff is scared of the kids that are brought in from other school zones.

Last week my child sat in an unoccupied seat near a wall charger to charge her laptop. A student approached her and said "get up, that's my seat". My child told her there were no assigned seats. The other student threatened my child. Instead of the teacher telling the aggressive student that there were no assigned seats and/or sending the student to the office for the threats, the teacher told my child to move instead. Afterwards, the student threatened my child again. By asking my child to move, the teacher just empowered this aggressive student.

The teachers are scared of the students. The children run the school. My child brought home a recording from class where the students were supposed to take a test on a video that they were watching. Through the entire audio file, you can hear students talking to other students as well as the teacher having casual conversations with students. No way you can test well during these shenanigans! K-4, my child rarely saw a fight or was bullied. Grades 5-7 there is a fight nearly everyday. Grade 5 is when they started busing in students from other schools that didn't want to attend in the first place. 2 years ago we almost had to move due to a job 350 miles away. My child begged us not to move. The move never happened but this weekend our child begged us to put her in another school. My child isn't being bullied, but she says it goes on daily. She says that the teachers do not care about much of anything. Getting individual help from a teacher is about as likely as winning the lottery.

This school is not safe. Constant fighting, cursing, disrespect. Admin is horrible. Kids are not taught to respect authority. Teachers have been disrespected, threatened, and even attacked (some hurt) by students. The students were caught on video and were back within a week. Many of the kids are bullied and scared to death of the kids that are not made to mind. Teachers are threatened to lose their job if they say what really goes on at the school. The general public has no idea the horrible things that go on within the walls of this school. There is no way Id allow my children to attend here!

I am now I high school, but went to Huntsville Middle last year as well as 6th and 7th grade. I have to disagree with the posts of some of the parents on here. I had a few good teachers, but no excellent ones. Several of the teachers I had were absolutely AWFUL. My test scores did not raise hardly at all 6th-8th grade. Luckily I have graduated and am now a straight A student at HHS. That being said, other than academics the school is not too bad. I did not participate in extracurricular activities, but there are many offered. The people are about as nice as middle schoolers get, and the fights and drugs are at a minimum.

Huntsville Middle is a great school with great teachers. I would not go anywhere else. My child took the SAT in the seventh grade as part of the Duke TIP program, and we were pleasantly surprised at how high her scores were. I credit her teachers with her success.
