DO NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE. The teachers are HORRIBLE. Students practically walk around with weapons. One of the school resource officers forgot to do his job. The students here are violent! There are so many drugs. HARD drugs. It reeks of weed every morning. Dr Miller does not do her job. The counselors don’t do their jobs and NEGLECT children who have mental issues. They are not real counselors. If you are rich with extremely athletic and academically gifted children then send them here. The only other good thing here is the special ed department. They are wonderful.

The AP program is great. Very good teachers on the whole, both in AP and outside, but especially in AP. Very good votech with Mr. Laney and others. He actually puts his own cash in the program and has gotten many kids jobs. Other parts of the school are more mixed. It is very big and bureaucratic, so some kids get lost in the shuffle. Kids are now taking 8 courses, which is just too many, I think to get them through the building fast so it won't be too crowded. The leadership has not handled covid well, starting with the fake temperature checks to start the day as kids enter. It doesn't work and is all for show. Again too many kids are just getting lost and not showing up to anything since covid; many classes have 25% attendance combining online and in person. All that said, the school's teachers are generally solid, a few losers but not many. The kids are nice. Good facility. It is a school where if you want to get a good education, stick mainly with AP classes and you will learn a lot, as least when covid is not happening. Some of the activities are also very good, including drama, litmag, quiz bowl, music, and there is a college level athletic program. Oh, and just having filled things out, there is a very laid back attitude toward cheating, too much so. Some teachers and assistant principals would like to change that, but they get no support. There was a lot of disruption when they went from a school discipline scheme that mostly worked to one where they took away most any punishment. Kids are not stupid and could immediately tell. I think they are rethinking that, and luckily, since the kids are mostly nice, things never went too out of control. Kids feel safe at the school.

Our ADHD student taking advanced level classes has had nothing but accommodating, supportive teachers and has a very nice school vice principal assigned. Our exchange student took general level classes and said they were surprised how much Fayetteville High School teachers seems to care, compared with teachers in their home country. Cannot speak to sports culture or the how school treats students with more serious problems. I can say that, due to our child's disability, we have had to interact more with the school and its teachers than most parents, and we have been impressed with the level of caring and responsiveness of the teachers. Academically, FHS seems to have a lot more homework compared with other Fayetteville high schools, if a student is taking the most difficult classes. It seems quite rigorous compared with other nearby city and town schools, as well. One teacher said moving from a nearby town to FHS is like night and day in terms of how much his son has to work. With the university and kids from those parents nearby, there's a lot of preternaturally brilliant kids who value academics, and perhaps they set the pace for the more advanced classes. I am very confident that while my student won't be an academic big fish in this big pond, they will be well-prepared for college as a result. We are frankly surprised how much teachers seem to care and how intelligent, responsive and professional they are. We really expected less from such a large school, where kids and mediocre teachers might easily get overlooked. I certainly wouldn't cast doubt on others' less positive experiences. It IS a large school, and we of course have not met all the teachers, staff, coaches, etc. But in our narrow window of experiences (our own student for a couple of years now and the exchange student), we are quite pleasantly surprised. Our only complaint in terms of our own student is that the classes are too large, and we feel that a community like Fayetteville has the resources to cut classes down to an evidence-based size. The district should not have 30+ students in a room. It would serve students and teachers alike to reduce class sizes.

Children seem to be college ready. They are just very exclusive about who receives the opportunity to be in advanced classes.

Get a good church or community group. The administration and coaches and some Counsleor are good promoters however those teachers are not often the ones making the decisions that affect your student. This is s very exclusive school. New students do not have a chance and if you go to outside business to help well the school IS paying them to help in some way so that is biased as well. 10 years ago you could not have found a better school. Currently in the areas of special interest you have Coaches in dance especially that talk like believes and that' they promote girls but it is absolutely the worst I have ever seen

My child was asked to get out of AP AP English and Spanish 3 when we transferred into the school. She actually has a 504 and the teacher talked bad about her being behind and said she would never catch up. In the AP English the teacher said she would never pass. The assistant principal made her work with my child but we still went from an A to barely a C.

Do not go here. We stuck it out just to try to teach our child to never give up. However do not consider this high school. Fayetteville lower levels are great and junior high is too but run from this high school. There are a few coaches that are good but for the most part all of the good ones are gone. Winning titles is the only interest they have. Preparing children for their futures or helping Someone in need no way. They will crush your child's spirit with this exclusivity. They manipulate the system for their favorites. It is really crazy. I am a believer in Christ and many of them say they are but it is a farce.
There was a female coach and who actually prayed for every senior but purposefully excluded mine. If there were room I could tell you story after story. Don't go here if you like sports and never expect The principal or Counsleor we to help.

Some teachers are more than willing to help during lunch but that is rare. Usually you better just hire a tutor

Too overcrowded. Kids get lost in the numbers. Way too competitive. Athletes must specialize in a specific sport due to over-crowding. Even if they make a team they may not play/travel. Many scholar recipients are children of UA professor types--excellent students do not stand out.Teachers are advancing careers for pay raise; too busy w/administration requirements (trying to keep their school numbers falsely impressive). Good normal students are overlooked. Parents must be aggressive & proactive yet risk offending someone who isn't doing their job--teaching. Impressive facilities on the outside yet overworked tired staff on the inside. Parking/traffic issue is a nightmare. DAILY Spent 1 HOUR driving middle/elementary schools on opposite ends of town with HS in the middle despite alternate start times. Parents find out 1 day before school they were moved to a different school due to over crowding. Some schools do not have same calendars; if you have more than 1 child they may attend differently: don't plan vacation. Long-standing community families are elitists who shove their weight around &administration/coaches cave. Exodus to smaller rural schools is the trend.

This is a great school if you are talented in sports or extremely smart. Keep in mind, the only reason this school did not split into two high schools was athletics. The high school is being renovated for $100 million and has numerous issues such as traffic congestion, no time to eat lunch, and no additional parking. They could have moved but chose to stay in the same land locked location. However, if you want to pay local property owners $500+ a semester they will let you park in their driveway. If you an A/B student, this is not your school. You are just a number and teachers are hit and miss. Some are excellent. Some are bad and just waiting to retire. With so many students, they do not have time to invest themselves in the students and the counselors are overworked. I would look at the high schools in Springdale, Rogers, or Farmington before enrolling in Fayetteville.

Fayetteville High School is an amazing school with plenty of opportunities to excel academically and in the community and a school where you'll get to meet amazing people along the way. Socially, FHS is one of those places that accepts everyone and people are able to float around group to group; there are no boundaries with finding students from all walks of life socializing with everyone. Academically, the teachers are well suited in teaching students the fundamentals of a curriculum, but also going above and beyond by adding their own twists from their experience to make learning accessible and fun. The language teachers and AP teachers are the best (in my opinion). ;) I love this school.

Uneven teaching, but the only high school in the area in which you'd want your kids. If you go to parent/teacher conferences and check your student's homework and grades (online!) you can get a good feel for the quality of this school. The music and theater programs are great. Chemistry and history are standouts. Every other dept. has both excellent & disastrous teachers. 2011 state f'ball champs, lots of Nat'l Merit Scholars, counselors are helpful if you are persistent & involved. Very crowded but getting a facelift.
