Edge High School - Himmel Park

Edge High School is an incredibly unique school and unlike any I have seen. It's not for everyone, no one school is. However, Edge prioritizes 1on1 instruction, students' wellbeing and mental health, student voice, and helps student realize the growth they are making when the put forth effort.

I have two children that attended Edge. Edge gave my oldest child a second chance after we felt like his traditional school he was attending wasn't meeting his unique needs. From the first time I walked into Edge, to my child's first day of school and every day since then, the staff made both me and my child feel respected and seen. The teachers there genuinely care about their students, beyond them being just a data point.

My youngest child has always done well in school but has always been relatively bored with the pace of a traditional school. My youngest has always known what they wanted to do after high school, and Edge gave her a pathway to start her career on her timeline. Edge's self-paced curriculum and supportive teachers who helped her carve out an action plan to meet her goals, afforded her the opportunity to earn credit on her timeline. She graduated a year early and started college right away.

What I appreciated most was the flexible, self-paced learning model which allowed by children to recover credit and accelerate their learning.

The principal and the school's social worker are amazing and work really hard to help students and families remove barriers.

If you’re looking for a school that understands that every student learns differently and deserves a real opportunity to succeed, I would absolutely recommend Edge High School Himmel Park.

My son tried traditional school and struggled. Then during covid we tried online and he lacked discipline in that area. Edge provides an environment which allows self- paced work, flexible assignment due dates and also the one- on- one in case the student needs assistance. It's also a shorter day, which allows kids to have a job and they have the option to stay after school. I give 5 stars because the principal went out of his way to go above and beyond on many occasions and one particular math teacher exceeded our expectations more than once, and shows they really care about your student succeeding. They will go to great lengths to ensure your child gets everything they need. Although they are extremely liberal and focus a lot on "political correctness", the staff is mostly understanding of all backgrounds and because of its small size, they can stay on top of bullying complaints and do their best to keep everyone focused. If your child has trouble focusing with the longer school days, needs some help but can work independently, has trouble with time management, or has things like special medical issues/ an afternoon job/ a kid, or other things that could hinder their graduation, this is a school that will help them succeed.

I would highly recommend parents find a different school for your teen to attend. After having my teen there a few months and having met the "dean" of students on a couple of occasions I would rate this school sub-par. The "dean" seems to enjoy using intimidation and bullying with his students and the parents. They also have the parents fill out an NSLP form but do not provide any meals to the students. The teachers seem nice and try their best but the school work isn't preparing these kids for college or the job world. There are a lot of better options out there I urge parents to continue looking.

I use to work for a Tucson agency that work with homeless youth which is where I first became aware of Edge High School. In that role I found the counselors and the principal to work tirelessly to meet the needs of the students I served. Moreover, the consistent communication with all staff at the school fostered a support system for my youth where everyone was on the same page. I left that agency three years ago, but found myself at Edge High School's 2014 commencement ceremony a few weeks ago. My good friends daughter and niece were graduating. My friend and her brother shared how much one on one attention their children received through after school tutoring, AIMS tutoring, and something called extended school day. They spoke of how their children were relatively ignored in larger school settings. Their testimony combined with the those of the student speakers emphatically made event the most inspiring ceremony I have ever attended, including my own, and I was reminded how supportive and caring everyone at the school truly is. Edge High School sincerely has a community feel to it. Tucson is fortunate to have a school like Edge.

My son is bright, but was both bored and disengaged in traditional district schools. My son thrived at Edge High School because of the small school setting and indiviudalized instruction he received. The staff at the school, from the principal to the teachers, treat students at each other with respect. When you walk in the building it feels different from most high schools. The school has a real culture of collaboration and promitng student growth. The school provides few extra-curriculars, as its focus is primarily academics, but the few it does offer are meaningful and relevant, to those who participate. As father, it makes you feel good to her your child to tell you that they became a more confident and free thinking person because of their experience in a school.

Without this school I probably wouldn't be graduating on time. the hours are great, and the teachers really pay attention to your needs as a student. the school has a safe and clean environment unlike public schools.

Edge high school is incredible ! The class sizes are small . The teachers spend a lot of individual time with you when needed for school work . Edge high school focuses on the students and whats best for them and there options after high school.
