We have recently moved here from FL and my son loves this school. They do a lot of sports after school and the curriculum is just the right amount of rigor. He does not get hours of homework a night just maybe an assignment a night. This school has made my son much more confident in school. Thanks cross!!!

My very smart and above average daughter went to this so called ‘school’ for her junior year, and it has been by far the worst school i’ve ever taken my children to. She was put in the r.e.a.c.h program because or her academics, she had a 3.29 GPA when she attended Cross, but now has a 3.14 GPA after finishing her 2nd year here. I am now switching her over to Basis Oro Valley.

Really poor. I'm very disappointed. Due to moving a lot my child has had to attend several different schools and this one has been by far the first when it comes to meeting special educational needs.

Unable to adequately follow an IEP plan. My disabled student has experienced more discrimination from staff than any other school previously attended.

Bullying from students surprisingly has not been an issue. Bullying has been directly from paraprofessionals who lack training and education on how to deal with behavior interventions.

Both of my children have attended Cross Middle School and have had great experiences. We started out within the boundary and after moving, chose to open enroll. I have always been impressed with the range of classes offered that address leaning needs on all levels of the spectrum. The teachers at Cross are dedicated and invested in their professions. There are so many that go above and beyond what is required.
The entire administrative staff is very friendly and helpful. Middle school can be a challenging time and Mr. Heinemann and Mr. Dominguez do a fabulous job of staying on top of any issues that arise and looking out for the safety and well being of the students. It is truly a wonderful community that I am happy to have been a part of.

Homework is meaningful and is centered around what students are practicing in the classroom so that they can apply skills at home. Homework is also given in the form of projects which allows students to have choice and invest in their learning.

Students are placed in classes which are academically appropriate based on state assessments, special programs offered, and state guidelines. Teachers are highly effective and are certified in their content areas.

Open enrolling my son at Cross was phenomenal for him. He has been able to be challenged in the gifted (REACH) program, take higher level mathematics (Algebra I), be a part of the school community (after-school tutoring), play in the jazz band, and participate in Odyssey of the Mind and Future Problem Solving. The staff (including the leadership) is caring and he continues to grow socially, emotionally, and academically because he is being challenged and encouraged. He loves Cross and looks forward to what will come as he advances through other grades.

We have had a GREAT 3 years at Cross. Education requires commitment, cooperation, and respect among students, parents, staff, and community. I believe the staff at Cross works very hard to make sure our kids have a safe, kind and caring learning environment, that provides a positive experience for all students. The students are held accountable for their actions and that helps them become positive, contributing members of society. The administration and staff are visible on campus and I have seen them positively interact with students during passing periods, during lunch and before and after school. All of our teachers have made time to meet for help either before school, after school or during lunch. I have had no problems communicating with the teachers and the administration is always helpful when I have questions. Cross is a great school that cares about the students and wants them all to be successful.

Excellent enrichment programs for accelerated/gifted students. Incredible fine arts program, competitive athletic program; helpful, intelligent, and supportive teachers. The administration is always knowledgeable of what is happening on their campus and does their absolute to best to ensure the safety of all students. All students are held to high academic standards and expectations. The parents and community are very involved with the school and its activities and events.

Everyone at Cross is the embodiment of BE KIND.
My son has special needs and they are very understanding of him and me as well. I am very impressed at the way they always conduct themselves- with altruism and professionalism. I highly recommend Cross Middle School.

Cross is a fantastic place to work, and a very comfortable place to teach. The community is supportive and involved in what happens at the school, which allows us teachers to do our best in the classroom. I have asked for help from the community for my program and have received every thing I ever needed to help make my job in front of the kids successful. Mr. Heinemann and Mr. Dominguez have done a great job to implement a school purpose and belief system. I am watching pieces fall in to place every day as the school moves towards its goals. We offer many elective choices at Cross that help students to explore their creativity including band, orchestra, musical theater, percussion, choir, and guitar. The athletic system is run by Mr. Williams, who has decades of experience and ensures our athletes are competitive, while learning and representing the school in a positive way. I hope that when I am a parent, my students will get to attend such a well-rounded school as Cross.

Cross has wonderful students, dedicated teachers, and great programs that are offered! There are advanced classes, musical theater, marching band, Humanities, lab science, Odyssey of the Mind, Robotics, great sports, orchestra, and so much more. Cross has something for everyone!

I have had 3 children attend Cross and I am so impressed with the current administration and staff. There is such a strong sense of community and wanting to help students be successful and safe and challenged. I volunteer there still and I see teachers staying after school or showing up VERY early to help kids who have been sick or need to do make up work or need some extra tutoring. I have seen staff members collaborate to provide necessary services, raise standards and goals, and work with great patience and personal commitment. As a parent with students here, I am appreciative of the dedication and work ethic. Construction over the past year has seen a nice upgrade on several areas, including a new weight room as part of the P.E. program that is top notch. It is one of the few middle schools I know of that has its band students play at some of their sporting games. The best thing I like about Cross is that it feels like family.

Both of my children went to Cross. They both got a wonderful education and had a lot of opportunities to participate in sports, clubs and other activities. I was a student at Cross many years ago and I am so glad my children attended as well. Great teachers and great students. I especially love the 6th grade team of teachers. They really help students transition from elementary school to middle school.

This school is literally the worst school I've gone to. I was a student there for 2 years, and I had straight F's the entire two years. In 6th grade, I was sucked into a fight that wasn't even my fight. My friend was starting to go cross eyed, and so I tapped the girl on the shoulder with my fist, and she told me to lay off. Ever since that day, I was watched so closely by administrators. After 6th grade, I moved on, even with straight F's. I had a math teacher for 2 hours straight with one three-minute break in between. This teacher was on my case all the time. she told us that right answers didn't matter - it was the effort. But every time I got answers wrong on my homework, she wrote a big fat F on it and moved on. Not only that, but she would call me out and embarrass me in front of everyone. When I was gone for 4 days (personal reasons), she told everyone that I was a "spoiled brat" and "craved attention". I feel that all the teachers do not care about the students. I was bullied every day. I was punched, kicked, shoved, and called names every single day. I'm going to Flowing Wells Junior High now and the teachers care about us. I recommend FWJH more than any other school.

MY SCHOOL IS , its just awesome but the one thing i would improve is the dances. CAN WE HAVE A DJ AND HAVE IT AROUND NIGHT TIME ? please lol. but yeah im a student at cross and its just fantasticccccc. i make ALOT of good memories here (:

This school is ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!! From the administration all the way down to the students, they are hateful and mean and if you don't fit in with their ideal, they will find a way to get rid of you...I watched a student go from being a straight A student in the gifted program to a student that was suspended and failing in about a year. Not one person at the school cared or tried to do anything to help this student... The other students are bullies and if one doesn't like you, you better watch out! They will all gang up on you!

This school has continually improved for the last 3 years. Shannon Chandler has brought outstanding leadership and character to this school. My son is my third child to attend Cross. He was extremely lucky to have a principal, teachers and support staff that supported him throughout his 3 years. The principal knows the names for the faces of 80% of the students on campus. She is always at lunch, spends time in classrooms, attends events and cares deeply about the well-being of her students. She actively works to create a positive environment that discourages bullying. The staff has improved dramatically since her arrival. She has even created a program and atmosphere that takes the struggling students and creates action plans with their teachers and a mentor to improve their grades and make them successful.

Cross is an excellent school that properly prepared my older two sons for high school and is doing a great job with my third. The principal is awesome. My sons are all gifted and honors students. Cross now offers an advanced Language Arts class and a program to help them succeed with the AIMS standardized tests. IN addition, Cross is actively working on the new Common Core standards, before a lot of other schools.

My daughter transferred into this school in the 8th grade and it turned out to be an excellent move. The math and science programs are excellent. The school also has an outstanding choir and orchestra. My daughter has really come into her own at this school. She made many friends quickly and is really enjoying herself. The school is a bit tough academically, but it has forced her to push herself into becoming a better student.
