I have to say I had mixed thoughts when my son started but I was pleasantly surprised it was a very positive experience for my 8th grade son! He has always been at a brick and mortar school until 8th grade. We left high tech for the lack of displine, learning and bullying my son thrived here but online is not right for every student my son is advanced learner and can work independently if your student is not they will probably not thrive without additional support First thing to consider there is no hand holding! Students are expected to do their work independently and the learning coach is expected to ensure work is getting done. Second, there is one hour of instruction, one hour to work offline independently for each subject but your student can work at their own pace which helped my sons anxiety our teacher Ms. Kim was a rockstar so attentive and also responded to all my sons emails. My son is also on IEP and all services were done over zoom. The curriculum was average but my son learned a lot and independent learning skills for hs. I did notice that there was a 50/50 split on students taking online learning seriously they either did or didnt. The only negative is beyond the teachers it is nearly impossible to reach school admin if there are problems and we did not get to choose electives if you have a student facing challenges in a traditional school environment this would be a great option to consider my son would like to give traditional hs a go but if it doesnt work out we will be re-enrolling

There is no support for parents the administrator don't believe in returning phone calls, teachers act like children they can express there Satanistic beliefs to your children but you can't talk about God my daughter went from being a A student before she started K12 to an F the teachers fly through the assignment and never record the class unless there being FAKE. My daughter has learned alot she is now depressed, suffers from anxiety and dreads getting online in the morning her lap top which they provide is always down and they teach nothing about what these kids will half to face in daily life what a joke of a school I will HOME SCHOOL MY DAUGHTER MYSELF .... How are you guys even still open most of the children my daughter said in her class online are failing some kids don't even bother showing up K12 is a joke.

Teachers are the worst if you got 5 pionts on a test they would give you 1 point out of 5 and if you got a 4/5 on a test they literally remove like 20 or 30 points of your grade.

I had the worst 2 years of experience the program is great the the worst ones are the teachers they are beyond terribe they do nothing to help you.

The teachers at this school are effective because they are very nice and sweet and they teach me a lot of stuff that I didn't even know I could be taught.
Posted: July 27, 2017
This school develops 100% strong character in its students because it shows respect, compassion and a whole lot of integrity and I love it a lot.
Posted: July 27, 2017
Leadership at this school is effective because they have ASB which is the Associative Student Body whereas at a normal public high school that isn't virtual has the ASB students show leadership by planning school dances and other exciting events.
Posted: July 27, 2017
This school effectively supports the students with learning differences by them learning how to do the work correctly and asking their teachers questions on something that they may or may not understand.
Posted: July 27, 2017
This school has an effective approach to homework by explaining on how exactly I would be able to do it correctly and not get it wrong.
Posted: July 27, 2017
I would rate my experience at this school 10/10 because it has been an amazing experience through out my junior year of high school and I would never want to leave!

They regularly communicate with parents and students, some send out weekly updates to students and parents on how student is performing in their class. When the student falls behind parent and student are contacted by email and phone and catch up plans are provided.

The curriculum covers materials, i.e. Essays, stories, poems, speeches that deal with these subjects and express and demonstrate the importance of these values to our society and in our personal life's.

My student has an IEP and the teachers are very cooperative and supportive of the accommodations she needs to be successful. The public jr. High/high school district that we live in were not!
Posted: July 26, 2017
They provide provide information to students and parents on the subject and have the students address it in class discussions in some subjects.

My experience with CAVA has been excellent, they have provided the support and educational experiences needed to allow my student to be successful in school.

Being with CAVA made online education so much fun. Our teachers Lori Silvio and Jamie Jardim were very supportive and always available for help. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for online education with structure.

My daughter has been going to this school for 2 years now and I use to really love this school. I absolutely love her teacher and the curriculum, however this school year has just been a disaster as far as organization. I have always had a problem getting my internet disbursement from them except once. They say they send it out...you never get it, then they tell you it will be the next week and so on... The assembly they hold seem to be geared toward favoritism...who the best learning coach is ect. and I feel every child should be acknowledge for their efforts. My daughter is a special Ed student and MUST be at the same progress % as other regular students. This whole work at your child's own pace they claim on commercials is false and most likely somewhere down the line will get into legal trouble for falsely advertising their school. It takes 2 hours per course to get through with my daughter because she is a little bit slower than the other kids so we are homeschooling 10 hours a day. Like I said I really loved this school so it pains me to have to write this review!

This school is absolutely terrible , they looked over my daughters transcribs incorrectly 2 times, she had to complete 2 unnecessary semester in which she was completely classes she didn't even need ! This messed up my daughters graduation terribly . She was suppose to graduate early and cava k12 has made it to where here we are 2 semesters later and she still has no diploma . The problem is she has all of her classes that are required in the start of California to graduate and no diploma . We tried for months and months to contact cava to explore our options and figure out how to get my daughter a diploma . And of course it was nearly impossible to get ahold of somebody . And when we finally did the woman was so rude !! And sudggested my daughter just get her GED!!! Finally after research we are enrolling my daughter into an adult school where she is going to complete one assignment and get her diploma . The only problem is cava will not send over her transcrips !! I strongly urge you all to NOT send your children to cava k12.

This school has been amazing for my son. We started in kindergarten and my son was completely deaf, we were able to manipulate the curriculum to suit his ability to do the work. Mid kindergarten he got his first cochlear implant. Then in 1st he got his 2nd ear a cochlear implant as well. He's catching up with his language quickly, but in the meantime he was still allowed to excel in the subjects he was already good in. We've completed 2nd grade with this school and are returning next for 3rd grade as well. Without this school I don't think my son would have been able to advance as quickly as he has. I couldn't have asked for a better schooling option for my son.

I just want to say for all of the people putting this school down...Online education is not for everyone. You are the learning coach...you just can't put your kid on a computer and think that's it. Its a a very dedicated job and it never stops. You are as a learning coach responsible for being proactive in engaging with your kids. This is a good school and if you look up the graduation rate of homeschooled kids its higher than Public school. Its a fact.

California Virtual academy @ San Diego is a joke. There is no real teaching involved! Unless you have a student who can teach themselves and is brilliant in EVERY subject. Don't waste your time. We are switching to public school after just one month of living in San Diego. If you notice, this school has a 4 star rating on here. I would give it a 0 if that was a option. Our "homeroom" teacher is a joke and is never available as a resource and never follows in a timely fashion. Like I said, very bad idea to use K12 CAVA. Will be spreading the word in hopes of preventing anyone else from choosing this terrible option.

Absolutely love it! best thing to have ever happened to my daughter and my family...

I LOVE that my Aspergian son has the choice of attending school in his own home, without the crowded hallways, loud classrooms, and bully-filled lunchrooms of a brick-and-mortar school!! The teachers he has had while in attendance at CAVA-SD have been knowledgeable, caring and always willing to help. My son will be graduating soon, and is ready to continue his education at a tech school for his chosen field, because he was allowed to learn at his own pace and in his own style.

We have our children in Lakeside Virtual Academy. We love the program, the CURRICULUM provided and our teacher.

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO CAVA OR ANY OTHER ONLINE SCHOOL IF YOUR CHILD HAS GOALS TO ATTEND A UNIVERSITY STRAIGHT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT A-G APPROVED. FOR CA STUDENTS, CHECK DOORWAYS WHICH LIST SCHOOLS AND THEIR COURSES THAT ARE QUALIFIED FOR UC AND CSU SCHOOLS. MY SON TOOK BIOLOGY AND WORLD HISTORY. THESE COURSE ARE WASC ACCREIDTED AND GOOD FOR HIM TO GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL BUT NOT FOR A UNIVERSITY. ITS WORSE WITH INSIGHTS, THAT SCHOOL ISNT ON THE LIST PERIOD. CAVA AND OTHER ONLINE SCHOOL WORK GREAT FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADS ONLY. PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK MOM'S AND DAD'S. GOOD LUCK, MOM

The curriculum is well organized and provides you with very useful tools that include computer and offline work. I would recommend CAVA to anyone interested in changing to home schooling or who is not happy with their current program.

I was a student enrolled in the Spring Semester of 2011. The School's Lessons were organized really well. I love the flexibility of the school: I was able to do some homework on the weekends instead of during the week, and you can complete the school at whatever time during the day or night. You can contact the teachers on the weekends as well. The only thing I didn't really like was how my counselor wasn't all that helpful. But overall, I liked the school a lot, because I learned a lot and I because I was able to have a flexible schedule.

This was our first year with CAVA/K12 and I have to admit it was extremely stressful in the beginning, especially when we started a month into it. I definitely recommend to give yourself time to learn and understand the daily lesson plans & listen to all coaching videos, as well as all the other resources they offer. They don't expect you to follow it exactly as it is on the site, it's very flexible and very easy to follow once you get the hang of it. It seemed overwhelming for me since I had a 6th grader and a 4th grader to coach. However, as I mentioned, it was my 1st year ever homeschooling and we were a month behind! It's been such a great experience though and I have loved getting to know my children on another level! I would highly recommend all parents to spend a school year at home with their child, if possible. It's been such a great bonding experience that I will never forget!
