Every school in Chula Vista has massive traffic congestion. Nothing is being done to address this. Instead, students are being punished by getting late slips and being forced to pick up trash.
Overall, the Chula Vista school systems are terrible past the elementary level. Do not send your kids.
The school demands complete compliance by letter of the law; however, if your child has an issue they do not care. They do not respond to calls or emails.
In the area we live we pay thousands of dollars in Mello Roos. Plus, the district gets funding for attendance. Someone is running this district like a cost cutting project instead of an investment into our children.
I hope that at least one person reads this and changes their mind about the substandard public service offered by Chula Vista schools.

I have only been to the campus a handful of times, and I dont understand why the school is so filthy. We need staff and management to set better examples for our students. How can you communicate that you care for your students if they show up to a filthy campus every day.

NOT ENOUGH SUPERVISION! A RIDICULOUS amount of students on one campus! Too much racial tension between students and adults on campus seemingly blames the Black kids, especially the boys. Fights are almost every day and being recorded and shared on social media sites, drugs are sold on campus by certain kids. Drugs are shared on campus by certain kids. But as usual, go unnoticed and is regarded as it probably never happened. Out of hand!

This school by far has the worst communication when it comes to the parent of the student. Either the staff just doesn't care or is overwhelmed with the amount of students don't really know the problem not to mention Sweetwater Unified is the worst school system in San Diego. every time you are fortunate to talk to a staff member they are clueless on how to handle the situation or pass you one to someone else. don't even bother trying to email the Assistant Principal to try to get a resolve they never respond back but if there is an issue with you child they are quick to call you. i have tried numerous times to get things resolved at the lowest level with emailing the teacher or even trying to find out information. I'm definitely over it and dread the fact that i have a younger child that will have to attend this same school. after my eldest finishes.

I am an elementary teacher myself and have always been involved in my childs education. My daughter is in 7th grade this year and I was worried about moving from a small charter school where she knew everyone, especially during a pandemic. The teachers my daughter has had have all been helpful, fun, and engaging. Even during virtual school, they have designed ways to tutor for each subject, still have spirit days and drive-through celebrations where the staff makes you and your kid feel like a million bucks, and hold fun clubs to make the kids feel a part of something. My daughter has even been able to make new friends virtually. I appreciate Mrs. Finleys weekly updates and how she keeps us so informed about what is going on at school. Truly a class-act middle school. I have been nothing but impressed and grateful for ELM and their efforts during this unprecedented time.

As with most parents, we were quite concerned about how our entering 7th grader would survive in such a large school... but he has flourished. He is challenged and has a couple of outstanding teachers that have gone above and beyond for him. We were worried that he would be lost in the crowd. In this 2020 spring quarter, it tool awhile to develop a plan, but when it came out this week, we were highly impressed with the school-wide organization and synchronicity. Outstanding leadership! We are very pleased and look forward to him being back on campus for next year.

I would rate my experience pretty average. The American school system isnt that great, but the school is safe and well maintained.

The school is great but the administration is the problem. They have no understanding on how to deal with issues and remove children for the most minor offenses. They do not even fully investigate issues they just go by word of mouth and when you try to discuss issues with them they love to say well that is not correct and make accusations with no supporting facts. It is a shame that the school district empowers such close minded individuals to run a school. I would recommend you send your child to a charter school because these administrators can not deal with the number of kids and issues that come about with out painting everyone who crosses their path with the same brush.

When we moved across country to here we were very excited about this school. It looked great, nice neighborhood, and high great school rating. After an adjustment period we have found this school to be awful for kids with learning disabilities. Teachers here do not show up when a conference is scheduled. They don't follow 504 accommodation. My child has been depressed the whole 2 years of being at this school. She works very slow and can't get work done as fast as other students. They require spiral notebooks with lots of gluing into pages. Add kids have hard time being organized and doing the same tedious work the same tedious way every day. School does not recognize this. Several Teachers get up for a few minutes at beginning of class say what the assignment is, tell kids to ask parents for help. Rest of period work on assignment. They don't go to the same classes every day. Very rigid and scattered at the same time. The teachers stress how hard it's going to be in High school and college. This discourages my child into thinking she can't handle it. Some teachers post right away in Jupiter so you can track kids work, others don't for weeks. The assistant principal told me to my face during first conference I had that my child's psychologist "must not know how things work here, and we don't make accommodations the way she suggests." Then when I told her she is entitled to 504 plan she said if the teacher feels she is doing everything and they agree will they follow the plan but it is at the teachers discretion. You have to jump through a lot of hoops to get the teachers to follow 504 accommodation. We have two kids in same grade. One kid thanks to some generous teachers is allowed frequently to turn in late work, the child with add who is supposed to have 504 accommodation gets told she is not allowed to turn in late work. That doesn't seem fair to me that depending on what teacher you have determines if you can turn in late work or not. The teachers should be following same guidelines. They know you will get tired of emailing them. However after that conference a couple weeks go by and the teachers don't go by the accommodation plan. We are very excited to be moving to a different school district. If you are military with a child with disability I would advise using the free liaison on base.

This school is great, my son loves it there. The only issue are some of the teachers, some of them are substitutes or have been for some time. The children don't learn what they need to learn, because of all the substitute changes within the year. One of the issues is, If you are going to teach Spanish have the school find a good teacher that is willing to help, not give an attitude when a student asks a question. Don't give extra homework, or tell the kids that they are not listening, because you don't feel like teaching.

Who hired the new assistant principal ? I don't hear anything good about her and seems like she's ruining a good school.

This school lacks leadership, communication and compassion throughout most of the staff to include office and teachers! They don't care about enrichment or student growth, just the test scores. They are mostly unwilling to help or assert any positive attention when dealing with special needs children and I have had a few teachers even say very inappropriate things to my child without reprimand from the assistant vp, vp or principal. I cannot wait for this school year to be over so I no longer have to deal with this school! Or I might actually get him into a different school! Just because it's a new school and it looks fantastic doesn't mean the staff is subpar!

The vice principal is rude and only acts gentleman like in front of adults.I love everything but him.My fellow colleagues like everything else though. The prime principal is nice and is an all round good person.Though many of fellow classmates are failing or having trouble in math, they do have tutoring depending on your teacher. They also make us pick up trash for almost any reason. It seems as if someone took a breath they get 1 day of picking up trash! Today my friend got 3 days of picking up multiple buckets of trash up.Also one of the security guards will take your phone before school even starts or when you are telling your parents you got to school safe for instance.Though they make it look like a haven for students,it can be quite suffocating.I would urge new students to come because once you make friends it helps you get your mind off how strict the school is.

It;s a good school but I wish they had bigger parking lot for such a big size middle school. Also, they don't have basketball gym although they have "not functional" basketball courts mistakenly built ( I heard) outside.

Eastlake is awesome! Great school. Fun school with good teachers. And we get iPads! What else is there to say?

There is a reason eastlake schools are ranked so high. They have the best teachers. My daughter went here for two years and did really well. She also learned Spanish at this school and she loved the class so much. They have a lot to offer at Eastlake middle. I liked that each student also was given an iPad to do their homework on instead of caring 40lbs of books I. The backpacks. They were very nice to parents and students. A++++++ school.
- What did you like? The teachers were very caring.
