The Children's Place Montessori School

We’ve attended Children’s Place since my oldest was 3 years old. I chose this school for the intimate environment it offers, specialized learning, staff and student body diversity, the classic Montessori curriculum, and the fair cost (especially compared to other Montessori private schools). Both of my children have absolutely thrived in this environment. I am continually impressed as my kids show incredible confidence, self-leadership, problem-solving skills, and collaborative skills, all of which were strongly nurtured throughout their years there. We will continue onward to the Elementary program, and we are looking for a safe, child-led educational experience that focuses on the whole child and relationship-based learning. The teachers stay with the children for a prolonged period of time, enabling a deeper learning experience that is based on trust and truly knowing the whole child. Cannot recommend this school enough. I’ve referred several families, all of whom are happy with and impressed by their program.

We've been a part of The Children's Place community for almost 6 years now. My son started in the toddler program and is now at the elementary school. My daughter completed her first year this year and they both deeply love their school.

We chose The Children's Place Montessori because of the wonderful environment, the small class size, the affordability, and most of all the total commitment to true Montessori learning, not just having a lot of pretty wooden furniture and saying you're a Montessori school.

Children are allowed to explore and go at their own pace. Sometimes that means they go quickly through a subject (though still with a thorough understanding) and sometimes more slowly as time and interest provide. That opportunity makes a huge difference and takes a lot of care and attention in a classroom full of kids.

We really did not want computers in the classroom when our son was in kindergarten and are even more glad they're not a part of his early elementary education. Homeschooling was not in the cards for our family, but I really feel like the approach to learning here is the next best thing for our family.

This is not a business that also happens to be a school. It's first and foremost a dedicated place of guidance that serves the whole child.

I'm so grateful we lucked into an open spot exactly when we needed it so many years ago and look forward to many more years as a part of this wonderful community.

Children's Place Montessori has truly been a home away from home for my son. From our initial visit, through the enrollment process, and now two years later, we have been incredibly pleased with the teachers, administration, and the overall community. We are deeply grateful to have found such a safe, trustworthy, and well-balanced environment for our son. As an educator, selecting the right school was not an easy task, but discovering this school was a dream come true for our family. The Hernandez family highly recommends CPM. Thank you, CPM!

The children clearly love the teachers, and the teachers completely care for the kids, while teaching them how to be independent.

My daughter has GREATLY improved since beginning with this school in October. She is verbally ahead, listens well, takes initiative, and it all transfers relatively well from school to home (as far as toddlers go!)

They are communicative, and flexible especially when it comes to scheduling.

This is the key to Montessori, is meeting every child where they are at. I love that! It’s very clear the teachers implement that with each kid.

I was told right upon pick up when an incident happened with a friend, and given a full write up, and we have had no further incidents.

I cannot love it more than I do, I am SO happy we found this little gem of a school. My daughter is happy, so we’re happy! How great is it when your kid wakes up in the morning chanting “School! School!” And recites all of her classmates names. It’s incredibly special!

Children are given a list of assignments to be accomplished everyday, depending on their abilities/learning levels. If the word is not completed that day, they are given the opportunity to complete it at home (given they understand the work). Very little homework is given, they should have enough time in the day to complete it.

They really understand that each child is different and are able to address each child according to their personality/learning ability. Because of the limited class size, each teacher is able to spend quality time with each student, and really focus on their work and learning experience.

I love that because there are so few students, everyone gets to really know each other and work with each other, in the good times and bad times. Students really learn to accept differences and find solutions to disagreements, all while getting along. I love the character approach the school has.

Absolutely! There are two children in my son's class that have different degrees of learning disabilities (who doesn't), and the teachers are very attentive into finding a positive way of working with them and their struggles. This also sets a great example for my son who also learns how to offer help or assistance to someone who learns at a different pace than he does.

Yes, they have really good conversations with the kids about how to respect each other, why to do so, how to address these issues so that everybody gets along and nobody is shamed or bullied or feels left out.

Excellent. I do agree that my first impression was that it was a disorganized place, but upon spending more time in the classroom and observing, I now feel there is "an order" that is not apparent to me as a parent, but that effectively works with the kids.
It is definitely a school that doesn't pride itself with technology (don't expect to text message the teacher, or receive frequent email updates or find ipads in the classroom, or an app to communicate with the school or other parents - which for me took getting used to). This school is much more about face to face communication with the parents. You don't have to wait until "parent conference" time to see your child's progress, you can just drop in any time to see their work or speak with their teacher.

I have two children enrolled. My son is now in his 3rd year, my daughter, her first. I feel that my children are being educated at their own level and pace in a concrete manner that they understand, and that is interesting to them. The school is also a positive influence on the children's self image as well as the development of a sense of empathy. Overall, I think this has been the best start I could give my sensitive, intelligent children. I was concerned that the teachers might run out of material to teach my son - nope. He's 5, and he's dividing and multiplying. The decimal system will come next for him. :) My daughter, age 3, is learning to trust her teachers and how to make friends. I feel that these positive milestones are well supported in this environment.

Over all we feel that was very poor communication on the schools part and it was cause a lot of frustration. I put more details on Yelp. Anyway, I will miss the other little kdis at the toddler room and wish the best for them.

We recently visited this school three times with our child and have nothing nice to say. They were very disorganized and gave us the run around about availability. It was easy to see that they were not interested in taking on our challenging two year old son. I was left in pure disgust regarding the remarks the director said about my child. If your child is anything other than easy going, I would not recommend this is the staff tending to your child.

My daughter attends this school and she was way behind the other kids when she started. She was afraid to get answers wrong and didn't want to participate in the learning activities. Now she is doing great and is on the verge of reading and she writes her letters every chance she gets! Most importantly, they made me feel like my child would be safe and cared for and relieved my anxiety about where my daughter was academically. I absolutely love The Children's Place!

I have two kids attending this school first at the preschool and now at the elementary school. Not only do they find the academics well matched to their respective learning pace, but what I am impressed about is how the teachers facilitate social emotional thinking and growth. There is a big emphasis on the process of learning, not just the product. The diversity of the student body there is also another plus. It is truly a hidden gem among private schools in the South bay area.

My girls have been with the school since 18mos and 3yrs, and are now in 1st and 5th grade at their elementary! Such a wonderful school... great teachers, great parents, and the Montessori method encourages self-sufficience, respect, eagerness to learn, confidence, cooperation... all with hands-on tools, and freedom within structure. I am so thankful for the school!

We have been so pleased with our daughter's experience at The Children's Place. She is in the Toddler room, which has an amazing student-teacher ratio. The administrative staff is flexible and helpful, the classrooms are well-stocked and well-kept, and most importantly our daughter expresses obvious delight on days she gets to go to school.
