Family Partnership Charter School/Morro Bay Montessori: This school harbors a culture of exclusivity and elitism. If you are not one of the favored parents you will be denied all participation in volenteering and you may be denied (like I was) a conference over concerns with how your student suddenly dislikes school. Expect hand outs to come home cut off mid sentence or using last year's field trip flyers with completely incorrect dates and times. End of the year work is sent home (a full grocery bag) that is 90% blank pages and not completed assignments. No wonder my student learned to dislike school, as the teachers allow the students to do nothing all day. If your student speaks out against a bully, the teachers and administration will do all they can to silence the student who is getting bullied instead of addressing the student causing the conflicts. I am very disapointed in this school and wish, for my student's sake, that we had not given them a try. The program sounds so wonderful- we started as huge supporters but the reality was a completely ineffective program with terrible communication and it encourages students to not learn at the proper pace, as they do not have effective methods to get the students to actually do the work (which means many students stay in this school additional years, as the program allows the kids to go at their own pace" - which sounds lovely except no one learns faster, but many students take additional time to catch up.

My son went to the San Luis Obispo Family Partnership.
They are the most awesome school ever. The staff is the most caring. They offer the most amazing programs. If your child is a smart child that do not fit in regular ed... this is the school for you.

Amazing opportunity for motivated, disciplined high school students. Courses are UC approved, and students can take up to 9 hours per semester at Cuesta College tuition-free. I have been extremely pleased with Family Partnership.

Family Partnership Charter has 5 school sites: Morro Bay Montessori, San Luis Obispo Independent Study, Solvang Independent Study, Orcutt Independent Study and Children's House Montessori in Santa Maria. We serve San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County. We are an home-school based, tuition free charter school. Parents act as the main teacher and monitor students when they are doing their daily assignments at home. Students are assigned a credentialed academic advisor who makes sure they are making progress. Students can participate in support classes to help them through writing and math assignments. We also have enrichment classes that provide students additional educational and socialization time. The curriculum in our Independent study centers is UC/ CSU approved. We are WASC accredited. What is cool about our program is that we meet students where they are at. We tailor their classes to meet their specific needs whether they want to graduate early, are struggling readers or need credit recovery. Great school for high school students in Orcutt. This school is very personalized and allows student's UC approved Apex courses.

The Montessori Learning Center in Santa Maria of the Family Partnership Charter School is a great, nurturing and challenging academic environment. The advisors there are the best. The Montessori approach is so complete, it looks at the whole child: academics, character development, life skills. My children love their school and teachers, and parents are always welcome in the classroom.

There are a handful of qualified "academic advisors"; however, the ones who aren't, can inspire a child to drop out of school and ruin their future. The Orcutt staff has some of the best and some of the worst - keep close tabs on your child's advisor, until you have established complete trust. Part of the reason we chose this school was because a personalized learning plan was supposed to be developed. It turns out to be exact, cookie cutter program, with no individual curriculum, no special interest offerings and NO flexibility in student's pace. The Odyssey Language Arts program is a weak learning tool and Aleks math does not spend any time TEACHING.
