Talking solely from experience, this school needs to do better. Not only is it too big a school to ever state it meets these requirements for every student. They're more than okay with it due to their overworked state. Due to the high number of students and lack of staff, it will just fall on that. That there is a lack of staff, and they will definitely try their best to make ends meet. However, that is unrealistic because staff aren't invincible and will/have definitely burnt out. Leaving the students to see that as an exemplar instead of highly functioning staff that gets paid the wages needed to live a sustainable life. The school isn't structured to make positive cycles. The staff works themselves to create that on their own. Also, higher staff, like the principles/counselors as well, leave it to the teachers for everything. Teachers should be able to reach out for misbehaved students and feel like they have support from both higher staff as well as parents. This shouldn't take the teacher alone to fend for the support. They're already having to deal with a high number of students in classrooms, as well as not being trained for the students with special needs. This school is not all it presents itself to be, and I hope they start working towards that soon! Both teachers and staff deserve an environment that allow one the teachers to teach, which includes meeting their financial needs as well as sufficient support, and students to be safe enough to learn.

Can Ehell just be fired already? She has the lowest passing AP rate of all the teachers and is definitely not qualified to teach it! I even feel bad for her regular history students by far! I wonder how she was even hired but it seems admin has a knack for old people.

As a former student at Birmingham Community Charter High School I can say with confidence that I am extremely happy that I made the decision to go here for high school. The teachers are very helpful and their lessons make you well-prepared for the homework that is given. Also from my experience they try to sit down with each student that wants to learn and gives them every opportunity to do so. The counselors do much more than switch your classes. They are there when you need someone to talk to and are extremely helpful in determining what classes will benefit you and to give you perspective and positive reinforcement. The administrative staff are always on top of their work and do a great job to make sure that the teachers and ready and equipped to give their students the best learning experience. Birmingham is a community and everyone has a mutual respect for one another. I am still using many things that the teachers taught and the counselors told me to this day. When I decided to give Birmingham a chance I did not know what I was getting myself into. Now I know that I got a great education and friends for life. I also developed professional relationships with multiple staff members to this day that helped me make it to where I am now. Do me a favor, go to Birmingham. I continue to reap the rewards and I am sure you will too!

I feel that BCCHS has allowed me to thrive, as well as my sister. We are both different level learners, she is a regular/honors level learner while I am honors/accelerated/college level. Both of us were able to finish the year with a 3.8 GPA for her and a 4.0 for me. I am excited for my younger brother to start at BCCHS next school year and see him get the help he needs to raise his C average to A’s and B’s as I watched happen to many of my friends. For those not academically inclined, the school’s arts and athletics departments are also very well developed. They are award winning and generously funded, even getting funding to visit New York this past year for the musical theatre kids to see ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ on Broadway. The arts department never fails to amaze with incredible acting, costumes, projects, and talent. the sports teams pour their hearts onto the field and court, from cheerleaders to football players, their passion and talent does not go unnoticed. BCCHS has much more to offer, everyone finds a calling on campus.

Homework is not suffocating here. Even AP courses have manageable assignments. Many projects are also fun and creative.

At BCCHS, students are taught that they are part of a family, that it is okay to make mistakes, that it is okay to be themselves, and that respect is not a privilege.

I have had a great time at Birmingham. Community Charter High School so far. The student environment here is very welcoming and allows for many students to get involved with their schoolwide events with all their clubs (about 20 or more). Teachers and students are able to work together with the given class sizes. Overall I would rate 10/10 for this school since the people at this school are very concerned about their students and always work to get the best out of them.

Students can be great in one subject because the teacher knows how to teach. But then they're not as good in other subjects because the teachers don't know how to teach. And when the student goes to their counselor with this issue, they suggest that they change their seat...hello the issue is the teacher not that the student can't hear them lecture.

My experience as a parent at this school is neutral. When I brought concerns to their attention theu would 'try' to take care of it. But when the student would go to their counselor asking for an Honors class because they know they can make it there, the counselor shut them down. I thought they wherr here to challenge our students..ha!
I have no idea what happened to this school. I enrolled my kids here because they had a 7 of out 10 score.

Too many ineffective and highly compensated administrators. Isaac Alatorre is an example of an ineffective administrator. He gets paid for presenting info that is from state and district/similar school reports that are public information. He treats teachers poorly from what I have personally experienced qnd heard from other sources. He needs to be fired. He covers his bases with paperwork.

Let me break this down for anyone looking to invest their time at Birmingham. This school is great, the potential is endless and if your child/ you are willing to perform greatness, you will accomplish greatness. The SAS program is truly the only way your child/ you will have a shot at a UC/ CSU and excel in their future. Sadly, as a current student, typically anyone who isn't in SAS slacks off and performs poorly resulting in the poor rating the school has. But coming back to the SAS, BCCHS has one of the largest numbers of AP courses along with College Courses provided by LAVC giving students who are willing to take them, the chance to excel. I have known many UCLA, UC Berkley, Standford, and other great schools acceptants, and their story all starts with the SAS program. Amazing sports, and a faculty that truly do care.

Hi, my child was very excited to go to this school but after few day she mentioned that teacher is explaining the subject in Spanish, so mistly in class the teacher in class speaks in spanish and when my child said that could you please explain in English the teacher said: " yes but please remind me if I will start automatically in Spanish again " honestly We are in blessed diversity tradition and nationality country and the all of us speaks different language but the main is English, so I am confused that my child should concentrate in class or reminding,,,,,,,,

I came to BCCHS for about 5 weeks and since day one i liked it the staff is great the SAS program and honors is excellent. I was shown love by all my teachers they were amazing. Right now i am attending NAHS but wanting to go back to BCCHS because the students there have manners and the cafeteria serves REAL food unlike regular LAUSD schools with the nasty packaged food. I do recommend this school because learning is fun here and tike goes by fast. Students arent loadrd with homework which allows them to have some stress free, free time, whether joining a sport or doing something else at home. The teachers are fun to be around. Trust me you will bot regret coming to BCCHS.

I attend Birmingham and it is the best school in the world it is a ten out of ten. It has amazing sports and teachers to coach and the teachers goal is for you to learn. I recommend going to this school if you are not in it all ready :)

I attend Birmingham as a Sophomore. From what I have noticed, this is a decent school. There are many teachers who I had last year though, that constantly complained about not wanting to be in the classroom. This is your job! If you don't enjoy it why are you here? At the very least, keep your complaints to yourself! These are SAS teachers I might add. There is a lot of variety in activities and clubs and classes. One drawback is that the school is very very unorganized. Schedules are always changing and lunch is always a mess. Summer of this year, I was to go to summer school for a college class. Never got the paperwork for it, so I didn't think I was enrolled. Come the first day I get a call from a friend saying I'm on the roster. Call the school, and they tell my mother that I MUST be lying and hiding the paperwork. Until finally, after much arguing, I got in. The bell schedule got changed in the last 3 weeks of school. Bad organization, but overall very safe and a decent environment. The new principal (Bill Parks) is very helpful and always out at lunch with the students. Not the best school, but not nearly as ghetto and terrible as everyone seems to think.

Most of the other reviews say "oh this school this this school that" but this school is a really good school the SAS program is amazing yet challenging. I'd suggest to take your son/daughter to this school its really great.

My child went to this school for about 3 weeks, and she came home crying due to being bullied by several boys and apparently a teacher. I went to the principal and complained about this and he refused to do anything and told my daughter to "suck it up". Please don't send your children to this godawful school. I gave my daughter the choice of either Colfax, North Hollywood High, or Burbank. She went to NH, and she's been going for about 7 weeks now with no problems and a B average.

I would suggest unless this new principal cleans it up there, I would suggest a different school if possible. But there sports teams and coaches are great. Every time I have contacted staff and been on campus, most everyone is courteous, helpful and friendly. If your child does attend here, just be diligent on knowing what they are working on in their classes. Some teachers have the huge task of trying to accommodate all levels such that some assignments can seem a bit elementary. They have a new online system which should help wonders with staying connected to what is going on.

Who wrote that about an SAS program?? My child attends and there is NO SAS program at this school. It's looks like we made a mistake choosing this school. The young arrogant assisatant principal has been rude to me and my wife and trying to get a hold of him is impossible. Who hired him?? My child will likely stay because he plays football there, but my other child will not attend this school.

I'm attending Birmingham and and i have to say its oustanding. It has an amazing SAS program for those who like to challenge themselves and wanting to go far. Its as well has amazing teacher who not just teach you whats to be told but thet teach in a creating way for you never forget what is told to you. If you are looking for a high school for you child think of going to Birmingham. I'm sure they will love it as much as I do.
