Fair Oaks is a great neighborhood school! The school is filled with so many amazing and diverse children, and I love the exposure my sons are getting to other cultures and families. The teachers and staff are amazing and take such pride in caring for their students. My sons are continuing to learn more and more everyday, and are excited to go to school each morning. While the test scores may not be as high as other Pleasant Hill schools, this truly is a great school!

Overall this school was enjoyable. However, my time at this school wasn't the best. I was bullied from 1st through 3rd grade and the situation was handled very poorly. Many fights and arguments broke out and those too we not handled correctly. I loved most of my teachers but there were times when I was confused that they were happy they won an argument with an 8-year-old. Educational-wise, it was okay. Once I entered Middle School, I had trouble catching up with eh rest of the kids because there were many things this school did not teach me in all subjects. Yet, creativity-wise, the school is off the charts! This school let me express myself in a way I didn't even know I could. They also are/were eager to do arts&crafts projects and in general loved the arts. I recommend this school if you are looking to do a lot of art but if you feel like you want to be at the same level as other schools please do.

The Fair Oaks Families group has started back up and so far they have been a huge support to each other and the school. I look forward to this group of parents bringing up the community at this school. Really cool group!

They have an excellent Special Education program, that really works with the kids to progress them at their own pace.

So far I have been very happy with the staff and community at this school. Really fun to be able to walk on campus and see so many parents that care for their kids. :-)

My son is in Kindergarten and already receives about 5 pages of homework a week. These assignments are on topic, reiterating the day's curriculum. I also appreciate that he is starting in Kindergarten with homework, so he gets used to it. I also like that it is a packet he has a week to complete. This has taught him to get a page done a day so it doesn't build up. Not too much homework, literally 5/10 minutes a day, but just enough for him to develop a habit of getting his work done daily so it doesn't pile up. WELL DONE!

I'm only in Kindergarten, hard to rate all the teachers at this school. BUT, yes in K, my son is already reading and his penmanship is excellent! Two things he did not have prior to attending Kindergarten. Learning is definitely happening in the classroom!

Haven't noticed, but again, we're new around here.

My daughter's fifth grade teacher was terrible. She had mostly boys in her classroom and let them run the classroom. She never gave out homework and she never gave them projects.

Self- esteem tends to go out the window when you aren't given ways to prove yourself.

My daughter had more confidence going in than she did when she left. Now she is completely unsure of herself as a student and it really sucks seeing her struggle.

The slower kids run the school. If you child is gifted or is advanced do not send them here because they will loose whatever knowledge they had.

BEWARE: This school might be in Pleasant Hill but there is nothing Pleasant Hill about it. If you are considering moving in the area or putting your child in the school DO NOT DO IT!!!!! My daughter is struggling to catch up barely a month in at her middle school because of her three years at Fair Oaks. I can't tell you one thing she learned while attending. They don't give homework because most of the kids don't do it. The trouble makes disrupt the classes so they pretty much run the classrooms. Bullying is a huge problem that rarely gets addressed. The principal does little to solve the issue. This school is worse than Cambridge Elementary down the street.

They don't give out homework. Half of the school doesn't turn it in so 75% of the homework is done in class so the kids come home with nothing to do.

I currently have four children at Fair Oaks, in Kindergarten, Second, Fourth, and Fifth grades. They are all having a fabulous year academically and socially. I have found the teachers to be excellent and effective. The leadership, especially the principal Mr. Jon Pierce, are friendly and approachable. Mr. Pierce really takes the time to get to know the students and their parents, and is active in the school community and events. The grounds aren't fancy, but they are clean, well kept, and inviting. My children have many opportunities for enrichment like instrumental music and science fair. The school regularly has community events like Star Night that brought out members from a local astronomy group and their many telescopes so we could see the heavens. The geographic location means the school has many English language learners, so that might skew the test scores. Don't let this deter you from sending your child(ren) to Fair Oaks, however. They will receive a good, solid education and school experience.
