You need to be involved with your students teachers even if it's just going to the Open House or Back to School nights EVEN contacting your students teachers outside of those events to have an open dialogue about your child. Just putting a face to a parent or care giver lets the teachers know that you are supportive of your student.
I hear from my student about several kids who are disruptive at times in classes and to me that seems to be a lack of guidance or discipline at home, assumption made from what those kids tell my child.
Children want to be disciplined and unfortunately the teachers can't manage disruptive behavior on their own.

Encourage this on a daily basis...the impact this has on kids is powerful. Have leadership groups to involve ALL students not just the "popular" ones. There are a lot of kids that are from single parent homes, parent in jail or just absent parents lets get those kids involved even if it's just talking doubt current events, music, celebrity, help them feel a place of just belonging.

We are newer to the school so I'm comparing from our previous school that the leadership (Principle) is not as welcoming as you'd think from a small school. No, I'm not on the campus frequently but what I do see is a clique-ish attitude to those parents who have been here a long time and even from the parents. We encourage our kids to be kind and meet others...parents should lead by that example as well. Some might be more inclined to become involved with volunteering.

Obvious previous parent post thinks otherwise... and it's a shame that they may walk away without the help they need or the understanding of why the school couldn't help them.

Good.
The school lacks enrichment, no real music instruction (other than a short elective), no foreign language, no chess club, CAD, stock & money market lessons... all in all it's a good average school that meets all the requirements.

Work load is manageable , very small student body so students can call on each other for help or further explanation.

Each grade level has different teaching styles, so it gives the students a nice balance. There isn't a high turnover of teachers and they are committed to their job.

The recent negative review from a parent doesn't make sense. The school actively encourages kindness and community. It is a small, close knit group of kids. There will always be typical middle school teasing at this age at any school, but it is not a widespread problem at Jonata.

The high rating is for the principal. He is very hands on and approachable. He has done a nice job balancing two schools and being involved with the students. He is firm yet supportive. The students seem to respect him and feel comfortable with his leadership. The superintendent has negatively impacted parent and teacher morale, but the principal and teachers make up for his poor leadership. The superintendent has made financial business decisions that seem to personally benefit him over the student's needs. The school district would be far better off without his leadership. Luckily, the principal is a strong leader and the teachers dedicated.

The expectations are high, but it is a positive because it is making my child ready for high school. The amount of homework is clearly defined and mangeable, but also enough to make my child accountable and responsible. Jonata prepare its students for high school at higher level than many middle schools.

I chose to live in Buellton based on the two strong schools. It is a close community with vey involved parents. The majority of kids are kind and the academics strong. Jonata has received multiple awards recently for being a top notch middle school in all of Santa Barbara County.

My child has learned something in every subject and he enjoys performing at a higher standard as that is the expectation. What more can I ask for?

My son has never excelled at previous schools. The work is much harder here but the key is that there is easy access to communication - what homework is due, access to current grading of each assignment and an app that is used for updates, messaging with teachers, etc.
