7 children in our family have attended St. Joseph High School. The enrollment has always been below 600 during our years there. It's a close knit community with a lot of school spirit. Financial aid is available to many families. A previous post stated that the cost is double the tuition due to additional fees. We have never found that to be the case. Students must purchase books and an iPad. Some sports will have a fee if fundraisers are not planned. Obviously, religion is part of the curriculum, but there are many non-Catholics attending. St. Joe is a college prep school and the teachers did a good job of preparing our children for university work. During Covid, St. Joseph worked hard to get the students back on campus for "in-person" learning. I believe the campus opened up before any of the other high schools. The school encourages all of the students to participate in extra curricular activities, such as sports, ASB, drama, etc. The small enrollment allows the staff to know all of the kids and if there is a problem, the parents will be notified. Visitors will find the campus to be very clean and quiet during school hours. The alumni are very loyal and active in the Orcutt/Santa Maria community. Many students are second or third generation Knights. No school is perfect and St. Joe may not be the right school for everyone. My wife and I were looking for a small, well controlled environment with high academics and Christian values. Paying tuition is a sacrifice for most families, including our own, but we feel it was a good investment.

It is better than the other high schools in Orcutt, however it is all about getting money above all else. If you enroll, just be aware for everything else you have to pay for, you can double the amount of tuition. Its a money hungry "business" and there are about 10 other things youll pay for that you'd never guess (and I am not even talking sports and activities) and they wont tell you because once you are already there, what choice do you have? Classes are ok, I for the most part saw my kids "in class" on zoom with screens off and playing video games (which I corrected) but the teachers also were not teaching, they were "preparing" with their screens off during class time or given them an hour to do an assignment... I have higher standards than this for all the pennies they squeezed out of us...

The kids at st joes are so friendly and respectful. They are kind to each other, and have excellent school spirit. The staff is very helpful but they do challenge the kids. You have to work hard to make good grades at St Joes.
