Our child had a hard time adjusting to public school. He is special needs with a special diet and learning issues. He feels at home at OMS. He loves his teachers and is no longer bullied. It is a great school with amazing teachers. He is now in a safe environment.

I am a clinical psychologist who is extremely picky about my child's education. I did a TON of research before deciding on this school. I am not Catholic and do not want a Catholic education per se. However, this school is undoubtedly the best in San Luis Obispo, perhaps the entire county, and I am so happy we chose it! The academics are wonderful, the way children are treated is amazing, and the teachers work so very hard. Any concerns we have had were listened to and the children are held to a high standard while treated with warmth. Although it's one of the most expensive schools in SLO, it is not expensive AT ALL compared to other California private schools, and the academics delivered are amazing. For a non-Catholic, we have always been welcomed and still believe our child is learning valuable lessons. Great job OMS!

My child attended Old Mission from Kindergarten to 7th grade. Exclusionary mean behavior is promoted. There is a 'reporting' policy that is really just approved tattling. Supposedly the reporting is suppose to be only serious things but any kid who wants to torment another kid can report on the other kid and facts are not checked. If your child is picked as a 'problem' child then any and every report is completely believed. It is a horrible system that promotes and condones bullying. The emphasis is on what is wrong and punishment rather than a more positive Christian approach. The school does an excellent job in the academics and the teachers are generally excellent but it is the other stuff that causes issues. The project load in 7th and 8th grade is so much that there are a lot of overloaded stressed kids with parents doing a significant amount of helping with the projects. If your child has any kind of special needs then don't send your child to this school - they make no accommodations for special needs and generally torment the quirky unusual child.

My son attended OMS nativity preschool for P 1 & P 2 (3 & 4 year olds) and we were very happy with our time there. The class sizes were small an the teachers were wonderful, loving and very attentive. Mrs Oneil in P1 is a patient and easy going teacher which made our sons first year there very nice. Mrs Torres in P2 has been teaching there for more than 20 years and was an exceptional asset to our sons learning experience. She was patient, kind, loving and nurturing. She went above and beyond to help him succeed in every way possible. We will always remember the amazing teachers we had at OMS nativity.

If I could give this school a negative I would - this is a small school not welcoming to new students. Exclusionary behavior is allowed if not actively promoted. Staff seems to empower bad behavior and follow the theory that nasty mean behavior is just part of childhood and to be endured. Shocking for a school that claims it is spiritually empowering and teaching Christian morals.
