Completely disappointed in our experience here. Bullying, mistreatment of others, and unacceptable student behavior/conduct is a rampant and consistent problem at this school. Students are not held accountable for their actions at all. Teachers just look the other way, have a passive and dismissive attitude, and nothing is ever addressed. Most parents believe that education involves more than academic development...it also involves social development of the student in a learning environment, such as a code of conduct for behavior. This aspect of education is completely ignored and the priorities of teachers are more focused on things like a uniform infraction (your belt is not buckled) or going to the bathroom only during recess verses treating others with respect and dignity. The rules and school priorities seem to be backwards. We got the impression that teachers are exhausted and just don't want to deal with any student issues. That is still the responsibility of being an effective teacher. Academics are decent, but the school culture, learning environment, and leadership are truly lacking. Do not recommend.

I have seen first hand the benefits of a superb education given to my two grandchildren as a direct result of SOM. The teachers and staff care about the children. The children are taught how to learn, think, and care about others in a truly religious and remarkable way. Tuition is reasonable for the area and the results are outstanding. Highly recommend the school. At the end of kindergarten the children are reading (!) and have the skill sets required to carry them through their formative years.

This school is incredibly racist. I have never gone a day here without hearing some sort of racist comment. Students do not get punished fairly here whatsoever. The overall environment here is terrible. Everybody here wants to leave.

My two daughters went through this school and are now in high school and my sons are currently enrolled. I can't say enough about S.O.M. The academics prepared my daughters for a very rigorous high school and when I volunteer in my son's classroom, I am consistently impressed by what they are learning at such a young age. I honestly do not know of another school where I would consider placing my children. When my daughters enrolled in early gradeschool, they had come from a public school. They were SO behind. I like that the school teaches about all religions and I also appreciate that there is a lot of emphasis on respect. We feel fortunate to be a part of the S.O.M. family.

After having my children at Madeleine during Covid and reflecting about it this summer, We are truly blessed. Our teachers started off this uncertain year, with changes continuously, virtually, then cohorts and then finally full inclusion with many safety restrictions. We were so lucky the dedication of the teachers towards our students was strong and positive. My children didn’t skip a beat in their learning. We are so grateful that the administration was able to make it a successful year even though there were safety restrictions and it was definitely a different type of year. We are looking forward to beginning the next school year with lots of positive vibes.

School has not done anything to handle racism and bullying. I know of 3 girls that have left due to the same group of girls bullying others and the school has done nothing! Disgrace knowing this school is Catholic and is not abiding by what they try to teach the students.

I am bored and raised in this city. I have attended both Catholic and Public schools. My husband and I feel strongly in providing the best education for our children. We have looked at many schools (private, public, Montessori, and charter) before making the decision to place our daughter in the kindergarten program. We wanted a school that taught Christian values but we also wanted a strong education and were willing to compromise and teach the Christian values ourselves if a school could not perform academically..luckily we found this school who does both. Right away we knew this was the right choice for us. The community was so welcoming even in this challenging time. There is wonderful communication from administration, her teacher, and parents. Her teacher is extremely qualified and cares deeply about her students. She is in constant communication with us and asking for our feedback. I truly feel my daughter is in a loving, safe, and growing environment that will positively challenge her both academically, spiritually, and personally. Also, the principal is outstanding! She is supportive, responsive, caring, and truly wants the best for her students. During this pandemic they have done an exceptional job keeping the community safe and balancing in person and at home learning. Thank you for supporting my daughter and making her first year of kindergarten a positive experience.

Most of the teachers are fine but what they are forced to teach is awful. BUT the first grade teacher forced the class to not eat lunch more than once because the small children weren’t perfect students.

There are no wheelchair paths, and there was a student with a learning difference and the were just put in the same class as the other kids and expected to perform the same.

“Gay”is used as an insult a lot and no student has been told that that is wrong, bullying happens in front of teachers, and the best they do is tell you to distance yourself from the bully. There is one anti bullying event where they make kids draw a picture about anti bullying and do absolutely nothing about bullying besides that.

This school was awful. The staff is helpful, but the curriculum is lacking a lot because so much time is spent on religion, and most of it is just reviewing what was learned last year with little to no new concepts. When I switched schools I immediately learned so many new things that i would have never learned at this school. As a victim of this school and its relentless indoctrination, don’t force your child to face the same fate. Your student will NEVER be prepared for real life or even a public school. This school does not deserve to be on this website or to be known. Also the tuition if you have more than one child is around 10,000 a year, and you pay tuition in SUMMER. Also there is an extreme absence of diversity and they will try to make sure you don’t know the LGBT community exists.

This school has high expectations of their students. They are well prepared to go onto Catholic or public high schools. I recommend School of the Madeleine highly.

Homework is given to the students to instill responsibility and to review the lessons that were presented throughout the week. It also teaches time management when students have extra curricular activities outside of school. Homework areas in the home should be designated as quiet spots and supplies should be ready and available to cut down on wasted time looking for things.Parents should check over homework daily. When you are organized and start the routine as early as Kindergarten, the kids conform to the routine and it works up through high school. Consistency is key. I've been there. When you really look at it, homework is usually only Monday through Thursday.

The teachers at Madeleine are all credentialed and most of the have Masters degrees as well. Many of the teachers have been working at the school for 20+ years. They are dedicated individuals that really care about the students. The teachers are here as a vocation. They believe in the Catholic mission to educate and instill Christian values. They are available to meet when you need to speak with them, email, and phone contact.

The teachers and staff instill student learning expectations in all classes. They teach students to live faithfully, be respectful, and be responsible. When disagreements are brought up to the teacher or staff they handle it.

The Principal was our vice principal for many years and has now taken the role of Principal. Due to the experience here, the transition was wonderful. She has an open door policy, and will make time for any comments or concerns.

School of the Madeleine is a traditional school. They have large class sizes. There are up to 30 kids in each classroom. that being said, Most of the children that have started the program in Kindergarten have developed excellent learning skills that are built on as the years progress. Students with Individual Education Plans have certain areas of need adapted for success.

The homework load depends on which teacher your child gets and what class grade they are in. Daily homework can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on what is assigned. There could be a spelling test, math test and a religion test to study for on top of homework each week. 4th grade has the lightest work load historically.

The school does try to teach in the gospel through religious classes by emphasizing virtues like respect, integrity and compassion. Children attend mass every Friday. Overall, most kids are well behaved. But it misses the mark on empathy and inclusion.

The Vice Principal took over last year after decades of leadership from the previous Principal. It has been a learning curve for the new principal who really has her heart in it, but may be a bit overwhelmed. Changes are being considered and some steps are slowly being adopted. Transparency is still something that needs to be addressed.

There is no support if your child has a learning disability or a physical challenge. The school is not staffed or equipped with dealing with anything out of the norm. If your child is struggling, there may be tutoring offered but more likely they will suggest your child repeat the grade. Or you will have to spend extra money for a private tutor. The school is strong in Language Arts and Religion. But Math, Science and Technology need a lot of catching up to do compared to other schools in the area, especially in the lower grades. Common Core is somewhat taught here but Standards are still the curriculum of choice. If your child is super bright, they may be bored as the class sizes average between 30 to 32 students. There is a sink or swim mentality. Most kids seem to score high on STAR testing, but there is no benchmark to compare these to and the scores do not translate well to public school scores.

I know of at least three families whose children have been suffering with social aggression, exclusion and bullying with in the last 3 years. Most of the time these children are just coping and not reporting bad behavior. When they do retaliate they have been punished and labeled the bully. But what worries me is that the school is not asking a key question, why are these kids acting up and what is causing discourse? How can we as Christians help these children who are silently suffering? And how can we give our children and their friends the voice to speak against mean spiritedness and be role models for kindness.

Overall it can be a wonderful community that comes together when a family is in need or tragedy strikes. Parents here want the best for their kids. A few go above and beyond in giving their time and donating money. The academics are pretty good depending on which teacher your child gets. There is an excellent sports program with amazing coaches. Where the school fails is embracing the child that does not fit the norm and having a clear policy regarding bullying and exclusionary behavior. It also is falling way behind in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Previous principal only seemed to care about how much money you would donate to the school or raise for the school. Current vice principal has done nothing about bullying of my son. She went as far as to tell me they do not have a bullying policy at the school because they feel the term bully is overused and watered down.

My children have been at this school for 8 years. For the last two years my son has been bullied consistently. We have brought it up to his teachers and the vice principal. After the last incident the Vice Principal promised to look into it and guaranteed me she would speak with my son to find out who was bullying him and what was taking place. This was never done. I even brought to her attention that he will be going to another school next year because he is afraid to go to SOTM. He is almost in tears everyday he has to go to school and has missed numerous days of instruction because he is so nervous that he throws up on the way to school.
The bullying takes place from a group of popular boys so even though he is not the only student to be bullied all other students are afraid to speak up. The sad part is he has asked if he could skip 6th grade camp because he is afraid with less supervision the bullying will be worse.

Three of our children have been educated at School of the Madeleine, with the last getting ready to graduate from 8th grade this year after starting in the preschool program. Our eldest is also a graduate and was very well prepared for a rigorous private school curriculum. We are very grateful not only for Madeleine’s strong academic programs, but also for the discipline, time management skills, and confidence our children received in a nurturing and value-based environment. The teachers are dedicated, the administration is experienced, and the principal and vice-principal are accessible (and they know each child by name)! Our children have grown in their faith and their intellectual pursuits, and love participating in the sports programs and other activities offered. The partnership between parents and the school is remarkable, ensuring the success of each student. School of the Madeleine is a gift and we will greatly miss it!

My daughter went here for 6th grade and part of 7th, unfortunately we ended moving to the east coast before she could finish. The school is wonderful! After moving to the east coast, I constantly compare this school to the rest, they never come close. This is why; my daughter came in at 6th grade from a public school, the teachers were always willing to help her with the transition with coming into a catholic school. A lot of kids start in preschool/kindergarten, so when someone comes in at the age it can be difficult. It really never was for her, she always felt welcome. The principal, the vice principal and the teachers are all wonderful!

I have two children at the School of the Madeleine. They both entered the program at kindergarten. In the early years the school lays down a very solid foundation in all of the core subjects. Religion, math, English, reading, science and social studies. As they get older, new interrelated concepts are added at each grade level. It is wonderful to see our children grow in their academic journey at the same time they are developing a close relationship with God and in depth understanding of the Catholic church. The school community of parents and teachers are truly wonderful.

Unlike the parent that posted on Feb. 12, our family has had the opposite experience with respect to professionalism and communication with the faculty and the administration. We've had two children graduate from Madeleine and still have one attending the school. Over the many years that we have been part of this school community, we found the teachers to be well qualified. All of the classroom teachers have a teaching credential and more than half of them have a Master s Degree. We also have had no problem with accessibility or communication with any of the teachers, much less, with the administration. Both the principal and the vice-principal maintain an open door policy and are very visible and accessible during the school day, as well as before and after school. We can honestly attest to the quality education that our kids have received at this school. Our two oldest kids were well prepared for high school (each attended different Catholic Highs Schools) and now college! Sending our kids to Madeleine was the best money we ever spent.

I completely agree with the review on May 22. Both of my children have gone to a well known amazing, prestigious catholic school out of state and was recommended this one...an absolute disgrace. I am in awe over the lack of professionalism and communication of the faculty. My two children are in the elementary school. I now know why teachers can be unlicensed and work in private education..
