Our daughter went to two different schools and struggled before finally landing at MSD. At MSD, she had a wonderful experience, and she told us completely sincerely that she loved school and loved going to school every day. The campus grounds are beautiful, but the most amazing thing about this school is the teachers and the love that they put into not only educating the students but helping them transition into fulfilled, contributing human beings. As a family with a child attending MSD, we experienced a nurturing environment across all of the dimensions of our child's needs, including social, emotional, academic, arts...you name it. Our daughter occasionally had some special needs from the school, and every time everybody involved rose to meet those needs and ensure she felt good and felt like she belonged.

Truly, MSD is a wonderful place, and they're doing good work there.

MSD was a great school for both of our (very different) daughters. My eldest attended MSD for 7th and 8th grade. My youngest attended MSD from 2nd through 8th grade. I feel strongly that the middle school is one of the best middle school experiences for students in the Denver area. Middle school is traditionally a difficult time for both parents and students, but the teachers and the culture of the middle school at MSD makes this time much, much better. The teachers truly understand adolescents and who they are trying to become. They support them well and also provide them leadership opportunities that push them to be role models in the toddler to 8th grade environment they are in. Additionally, students are academically challenged and learn a great deal more than I have witnessed in other schools. My eldest (now in college) was very well prepared for her local public high school and has taken much of what she learned into her college years as well. My youngest (just graduated 8th grade) will be attending the same high school in the fall and she also seems very ready and prepared. She'll be taking advanced classes as a freshman and I believe she will excel. MSD was a wonderful experience for both of my girls and I feel very grateful that we were able to provide that opportunity for them. I have been in education for over 20 years and I can say that a Montessori education is unique, but also, one of the best educations a student can have. I think it is a good fit for almost any student and I would highly recommend MSD.

Our childs experience at MSD has been wonderful. The school fosered a warm, caring environment where she felt supported every step of the way. What stood out most was how the school encouraged independent thinking she was consistently pushed to go beyond the minimum requirements in the subjects she loved, and she truly excelled because of it.

The music and arts program was a highlight for her, even though shes more of an athlete at heart outside of school that says a lot about how engaging the program is. On top of that, the administration has been wonderful to work with: always approachable, responsive, and communicative whenever weve had questions or concerns.

Montessori School of Denver has been an outstanding experience for our family. The teachers and staff genuinely care about each child and are deeply invested in their academic, social, and emotional growth. Our children love coming to school each day, and we've been continually impressed by the strong sense of community among families, faculty, and administration. The best part of our experience has been watching our children develop independence, confidence, and a genuine love of learning. The Montessori approach fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and compassion, helping students become self-motivated learners. Overall, we couldn't be happier with our experience and are grateful to be part of such a special community.

I can't say enough about how special MSD is. Our family has been apart of the school for eight years with two children, and they are genuinely happy and excited to learn every day. The teachers are deeply passionate about Montessori education and take the time to understand each child's unique strengths while providing thoughtful support where it's needed most. The dedicated support staff further enriches every student's learning experience.

Beyond the classroom, the Family Association creates countless opportunities for families to connect and build a true sense of community. MSD is a safe, nurturing, and inspiring place where children thrive. I only wish every child had the opportunity to learn in an environment like this

We have had an amazing experience with MSD. We have had two kids there from primary up through Middle School and see what a true Montessori school can give a child. I feel like they have been given space and support to become who they were meant to be as learners and as people. The campus is a true community where both me and my kids were known by name and could find people to connect with no matter what the need was. My kids loved specials classes and the teachers showed true passion for their subjects. It seems to have increased and developed a love for things I might not even have known my kids would enjoy both academically and personally. They have been prepared for their future academic career in learning math, language, science, etc. but beyond that they have learned skills like planning schedules, managing time, advocating for themselves and others, and public speaking. They love going to school and even through middle school have been happy which should speak for itself!

I have two kids here and have been very happy. The teachers are highly engaged and absolutely care about students success. Its a low pressure, nurturing environment. Academics are important but theyre not everything. Growing as a whole person is very much the emphasis. And this aligns well with my values. Most of the 8th graders end up at top private schools in Denver (CA, Kent, SMA) and seem to be nice, well adjusted kids.

My daughter started MSD in Kindergarten and just graduated 8th grade this year. MSD gave her a sound academic base and so much more. They gave her space to be herself, to learn in ways that make sense to her, helped her figure out how to handle conflicts and to be an advocate for herself. The teachers, staff and administration are all cheering for and supporting each child that is at this school and gives them the tools they need to succeed. I feel so thankful for MSD, the community we had and the opportunities it gave my daughter.

In our experience, the curriculum and overall rigor have not met expectations, and there is a lack of standards and oversight from the administration to ensure a strong academic foundation. While the student-teacher ratio looks appealing, it doesnt translate into a richer learning environment. Another issue thats difficult to ignore is the level of turnover among lower elementary teachers. My child has 5 lead teachers in the 2.5 years she has been in lower elementary at MSD.

Weve also noticed a broader pattern of families choosing to leave in lower el, sometimes in the middle of the year. In our childs current class, only about half of the students are expected to return next year, which clearly shows low satisfaction among families. Ultimately, weve made the decision to enroll our children elsewhere next year. I share all of this in the hope that the schools leadership and Board take a close, thoughtful look at these trends and consider meaningful improvements, including holding current lower elementary administrators accountable for their shortcomings.

I can honestly say that Montessori School of Denver has been one of the best decisions weve made for our kids. From day one, every teacher and staff member made our family feel welcome and supported. Our kids felt like they belonged right away, and that sense of comfort and confidence has only grown.

What stands out most to me is how MSD develops the whole child. The academics are strong and our kids stay challenged, but the real difference is the focus on social and emotional growth, independence, and learning how to think, not just memorize. I see those skills show up at home every day.

Our kids have also faced real challenges along the way, and the schools response has been exceptional. Instead of handing us referrals and sending us on our way, the team took the time to explain what was going on, what support would look like, and how we could work together. They checked in often and made us feel like partners in helping our kids develop.

I also appreciate the flexibility in the academic program. When our child was ready to move ahead, the school found ways to challenge them while keeping them in their classroom community where they thrive socially.

As a parent, you want your kids to be seen, supported, and pushed in the right ways. MSD does all of that. Were glad to be part of this school.

We moved our daughters from a Montessori school in California to MSD three years ago. Honestly, we were disappointed with the academics from the start. They did not come close to what our girls had been getting at their previous school.
What finally made us leave, though, was a very serious safety issue. A student in our daughters class repeatedly told her he was going to kill her. This was terrifying and heartbreaking for our family. We reported it over and over, and we spent an entire year talking with the school psychologist and administrators. Each time, we were told the situation was being handled. Nothing ever changed.
As we talked with other parents, we realized this wasnt just happening to our childit was a bigger problem at the school. The student is still there and is still making these threats to other children. We did not feel our child was safe, and we felt the school failed to protect her.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Our experience with MSD has been an unmitigated disaster, academically and administratively.
The academics are abysmal. Im genuinely shocked that MSD still maintains its accreditation, because in our experience they are not executing anything that resembles a Montessori curriculum. This is a watered-down, mediocre imitation of the pedagogy. The spaces are nice and the materials exist, but there is no learning, no accountability, absolutely no rigor. The terrible administration sets the mediocre tone for the whole school - incompetent leaders incapable of supporting student growth in any way. Questioning parents are met with defensiveness and addressed with deceit. Save your money, your kids are better off in DPS. I would never recommend this school, and wish we never set foot here.

MSD is an amazing school and special community to be part of. Both of my boys thrived due to the outstanding teaching, experiences in and out of the classroom, friendships made, and learning that was sparked. I am a proud alumni parent and cannot speak highly enough about the MSD school experience. I wish we could start all over and do it again. Go MSD!

My son attended this school for two years. We were impressed with the teachers at the school, but the leadership was questionable at best. Communication was scarce and especially regarding concerns or needing extra assistance of any kind. In the end, the leadership proved that money is their top priority. It was truly disappointing and a bad experience for our family.

I am leaving this review of this school because I have had now 2 years to think about my experience here, I came too MSD in 7th grade because my family, brother and I wanted a better education from the public school system we were in. We came across MSD and saw it as a good option to finish middle school for me and a good start for my brother, however we were wrong. MSD preached having all opinions accepted however when my brother and I presented our traditionally conservative beliefs they were shot down and we were told we were wrong. When it came to Issues like Covid 19 Personally I was very restricted in terms of travel even though at this time it was 100% legal in this state to travel to said destination without having the Covid vaccine. Not only was your expression of belief not allowed but it was punished, I will not go into this in respect for the school. The academics were also not good, there were no advanced Classes you could take, everybody was taking the same basic level math English science and history, going more into history, the actual history is said in a liberal way that gave children a bad image of the people that built the world by exaggerating small flaws that they had and making them look like terrible people, George Washington having slaves for example. the teachers would not hold you accountable or record your grades even though Montessori school of Denver advertised preparing you for the adult life. There was absolutely no highschool preparation and no accountability. Montessori had absolutely no phiisical conditioning as the only athletic thing you had to do was play a game outside once every few weeks when you had PE they also taught you that winning doesnt matter as there was no winners in said games, giving kids the idea that you shouldnt be competitive and strive to be the best. What I will give this school is that for me personally it taught me to deal with people I didnt like or agree with which is a valuable skill. Since leaving our family is so much better, my brother is at a new school and thriving like never before. I went back and finished middle school in our district and Had a stellar 8th grade year with a perfect GPA. Since leaving middle school I am now attending a prestigious boarding school and thriving with 2 varsity sports and near perfect grade. Sometimes all kids need to be successful is a new environment

It is hard to put into words how impactful MSD has been for our children and for us as their parents. It is such a joy to see our children bounce out of our car each morning eager to go to school. We watch as they have meaningful conversations with every staff member from the minute they step onto campus and how literally every person knows their names. Our kids are excited to share what they have viewed from microscopes, how theyve stretched timelines of the world across their classrooms and out doorways. Weve heard about individual lessons on multiplication and proper nouns (to name a few) and their goals for what they would like to achieve academically both tomorrow and by the end of the year. Weve listened to conversations about how our children are navigating social relationships using strategies theyve been explicitly taught by their teachers. Theyve expressed sadness as 1st graders at the thought of having to one day leave MSD when they graduate 8th grade. What more could we want for our precious kids than a school that makes them feel known, supported, cared for, and challenged as individual learners? Getting our kids into MSD has been one of the greatest gift of our lives.

Hello I am a 8th grade middle school student. this school taught me manners but up until 7th grade I didn't have a decent math teacher. teachers are nice but fail to teach you. also since the end of 5th grade no reach out to my parents was made other than money and in 6th grade when I was confused I basically had to fight or die to get at least one checklist done, 7th grade was better as I did get a good math teacher, 8th grade I currently see no point in paying for this school as it doesn't provide great academics I also see no point in giving the eight graders the same classes as 6th graders as they share core academics in 3 classes with the same work so there's no change other than what your learning in difficulty.
This school effectively deals with bullying?
no I was called twiggy my whole 7th grade year for being skinny.

Montessori School of Denver is a community for our family. Our son has thrived there and continues to love learning. His teachers communicate often and available when questions arise. My daughter has been at MSD since she was a toddler (now in elementary). Every step of the way she's had phenomenal teachers who have nurtured her and helped her grow. The Montessori approach is definitely what we need more of in education right now! She's learning academics, but also how to be a part of a community, manage her time, follow her interests, handle conflict etc. It will prepare her for adulthood in meaningful and tangible ways.

When we were looking for schools for our toddler, we knew we wanted a Montessori education for him. After touring different Montessori schools in the area, we realized none offered the learning, experiences, and community found at MSD. The first thing that stood out to us was MSDs mission statement. We knew our son would be lucky to grow and learn in an environment where those values were lived out every day. We were impressed by the beautiful campus, classrooms filled with hands-on-learning, but especially the relationships we observed between students and faculty. We began our school search right before the pandemic began and are continually grateful for the precautions, policies, and transparent communication from the school administration. Our child is safe, loved, academically/socially/emotionally thriving, and we could not be happier with our decision! We are honored to partner with MSD and look forward to what the next 11 years will bring!

Our two children have been at MSD since they were toddlers, and they are currently in kindergarten and first year primary, and I dont think I would have picked a better school for them! One of MSDs biggest strengths is social-emotional development. Our older child is very introverted and at first didnt speak to any of her teachers, but with the help of her current primary teacher, she has really started to find her voice and speak up in class as well as interact with her classmates on the playground.

Moreover, MSD values the independence of a child and other important executive function skills. At the toddler level, this means letting your child learn how to put on her coat and shoes herself, and feel the satisfaction of being able to do it herself! MSD really values the joy of learning and tries to weave that into every day life at school. Although my older child is one of those kids that just wants to stay at home all the time and is tough to get out of bed, on most days that I pick her up from school, shes full of smiles and excited/satisfied about what she had done at school that day.

Although MSD is not traditionally thought of a place that values academic rigor, I felt that my kids from an academic standpoint are thriving. I like how the curriculum can be individualized and theres really no ceiling to what they are learning. My 3-year-old who is in first year primary is already learning numbers and place value in the thousands. I like how the math curriculum uses a lot of manipulatives to give kids real concrete understanding of numbers and value. My kindergartener is learning multiplication and has also made great strides in reading. MSD did a really good job with establishing a strong foundation of sound association with letters, so once she started reading last year, she moved pretty quickly and is now reading at the 2nd/3rd grade level.

MSD has gone above and beyond to ensure students, staff, and the community are safe during the pandemic. There have been thoughtful implementations and the conversation continues as the school follows careful guidance from health experts. I know my child is in a safe and fruitful learning environment each day. Very thankful for the leadership and frequent communication the school provides to parents.

This is such a fantastic school and community for both children and parents! My daughter just finished her first year (Toddler) and I cannot speak highly enough of the teachers, assistants, main office, campus and all the events to ensure the entire family is involved and aware of all that your child is experiencing and learning. My daughter has thrived In becoming her own person and an independent toddler. Within 2.5 weeks of being in school she was working on putting her socks on (as a 2.5 year old) and she accomplished it not long after that, she always asked to help around the house with chores, her speech and awareness of others increased considerably. She learned how to respect her environment and peers a lot more and her teacher gave me feedback and tools as to how to better nurture a very high strong toddler. The campus is beautiful and the school is constantly improving it. I cant speak highly enough of the entire school and staff! I cant wait for her to start Preschool this year!

There wasn't any homework yet, but most of the parents of older kids told us that the school didn't assign homework at all. Which might be fine, except hiring private tutors (on top of this private school tuition) was a common topic of conversation among parents.

Our child was repeatedly hit, head-butted, and bruised by another kid in her classroom who had no self control. We worked hard to have this addressed through the teachers and administration, but finally had to teach our daughter to physically defend herself because they couldn't keep her safe.

We loved the teachers, but the process for dealing with any problem is non-existent. If you can pretend that everything is perfect, it's great. Otherwise, do not expect support solving any problem, just the request to let it go.

Even though studies show how homework is harmful or no effective, I could never get a standard answer on the school's philosophy on homework or work in general. They have lots of philosophy but no one knows the so what to why they do things. The school likes to perpetuate the rumor that all public schools are piling on homework on students. The school my child attended after leaving MSD had a straight forward philosophy on work, testing and consequences.

We feel so fortunate to have discovered MSD over 10 years ago. Our oldest son is currently in 8th grade and has been at MSD since he was three. We also have a 4th grade son who started MSD when he was a toddler. Both of our boys love their school. They love learning, they thrive in the Montessori environment, and they have great respect for their teachers and peers. Our boys are very different, yet they both have been academically and socially successful at MSD. They are both confident, self-motivated, kind-hearted, and committed to community and learning thanks to the support and education they are receiving. MSD is a great community dedicated to volunteering, family support, and creating strong foundations for it's children. The teaching philosophy at MSD it top notch and encourages students to build on their strengths as well as their challenges. Our boys know how to problem solve, think globally and creatively, while also developing a rich and diverse educational foundation in all subjects. We know our boys will one day leave MSD more than prepared to take on the challenges of their continued educational careers and their ever evolving lives. So grateful for MSD!

MSD is an excellent school for a growing child. The kids develop a love for learning and for their community. The teachers adapt learning programs to individual student needs (versus forcing a one size fits all approach). We have been at the school for eight years and are very pleased. There are many long serving teachers and faculty members.

Horrible School. As others said it's very cliquy. They don't accept "outsiders." The teachers are okay, but don't really listen to you or address your concerns. The administration, although they may listen, don't care unless you are one of the Rich snobs, that can give them more money. I and others I know also, found when we left MSD, that are kids were way behind their peers. My daughter was considered two grades below where she should have been. Don't go there, it's a big waste of your money. There are far better schools in the Denver area!

I love that MSD's elementary curriculum is 100% individualized. My 2nd grade son comes into the classroom each day to find a personalized lesson plan--with choices in place. He feels like he controls his learning, yet he is held accountable and his success is measured in every minute detail of each discipline. His teachers have instilled in him the desire to push hard to learn more, and he is always motivated to move ahead. (And I'd like to add that while the choice of the school is dependent on what's best for my children not for me personally, I happen to adore the community which has been warm, fun, and inclusive.)

Amazing school, amazing teachers, administration is adequate. I do wish there was more of a sense of inclusiveness with all families , but that is okay! We are in the middle school now and LOVE the new middle school teacher! He understands middle schoolers and we have seen our daughter grow so much academically and emotionally!! Thanks!

We had a poor experience with this school and our son now happily attends another independent school. The teachers and administration are not open to making changes or to accommodating the needs of individual children. The parents are very "social" in a cliquey sense and the entire atmosphere is false. Beautiful campus, beautiful classrooms and library. Look underneath, very carefully, before you sign on for this place.

We have been at MSD several years and absolutely love it. The teachers are incredibly skilled and supportive, and my son is learning things in kindergarten that my other son (who is in a HGT program at another school) didn't learn until later. The school helps facilitate a true love of learning, and has a supportive community of engaged parents. The Montessori approach is amazing - we couldn't be happier and are planning on staying through 8th grade.

This school look good but it is not a great school. If you have any issues, the teacher and admin will listen, but nothing will be done. The parent population is very cliquey and you can not voice your opinion. Your child needs to be the norm to do well here however, if your child has any issues or need a little attention, they will not receive it and they will be ignored.
