We have been very pleased with our son's experience at Peak to Peak so far. He is happy, loves his teachers (all of whom go above and beyond), and is growing by leaps and bounds. We are so grateful to have found this school.

Caution to any families who value diversity of thought, be wary when entering the school.
The principal does not value families, only how students can impact the school ranking and reputation. It would appear that this is best accomplished if students parrot only liberal talking points. Teachers are permitted to openly push agendas with zero accountability. Most students know their teachers political beliefs. The principal is fine with this as it mirrors his own worldview.

The school has been warned that families who are religious don't feel welcome. Nothing has been done. Many parents don't trust the staff and the staff does not work to build relationships with families. Parent relationships are undermined in the classroom, and the most self-absorbed teachers complain about work hours to the students. A handful of teachers openly have meltdowns in the classroom.

There are a few excellent teachers at the school. Teachers who care about the students and their well-being, who are passionate about the content they are delivering. Unfortunately, they are overshadowed by the others.

There is a small but vocal group of teachers at the school who lack professionalism and a strong understanding of how diversity actually works. They believe they get to dictate what students think, regardless of family traditions, values, etc. Those teachers (and the principal who oversees them) have weakened the school.

Peak to Peak High School is not for everyone. For those who enjoy constant anxiety, being fearful of saying the wrong thing and relish the thought of an entire day of being told what is wrong in the world with no hope for the future-THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!
Youll start with a required class in which innovation means activism. There is no better way to solve this countries problems than constantly telling others what theyre doing wrong. Youll learn how to use language to shame those with wrong think (ie. anyone religious or conservative). Youll be sure to be labeled a dirty American which is always necessary to put you in your place .
Enjoy literature? Not at Peak to Peak! Books are not read to be absorbed and enjoyed. You must have epiphanies about the the weight of the world on your shoulders that only you can fix. Youll spend entire units being loaded down with all the shoulds of the world and finish the year with crippling anxiety. Who doesnt want that?
All the joy and lightheartedness of youth will be slowly seeped from you as you will be reminded that there is nothing good in the United States, your future is hopeless and listening to others with different opinions is unnecessary and must be avoided at all costs.
This all comes with the added bonus of electric buses that dont work when its cold and cant go far distances, or when there arent bus drivers, or well. The electric buses sure do look nice locked up on the campus though. Never mind that students and parents are driving to track meets. Peak to Peak has the title of all electric fleet and thats what matters.

P2P is a small, progressive school. But not the K-12 school of its founders. That school (2001-approx 2009) was core knowledge-based at ES, offered (true) flexible ability grouping, and supported unusually advanced courses at MS and HS. It allowed students to work across school types to meet academic needs. Resources went primarily to classrooms. Extra teachers were hired to keep class sizes small in content areas. It hosted ES language education, HS test prep, and the opportunity for students to take college courses for co-credit. Today's P2P is a quasi-teaching school that implements developing curriculum. Gender/Sex ed. classes are taught in 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7 or 8th, and 10th grades. Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) teachings are infused throughout curriculum and educational practices. There is little support for gifted, twice exceptional, or learning disabled students. Teacher/student ratios are most commonly 25-30:1. Parents should know these differences before open enrolling at P2P. so you and your student's educational journey may be happier.

one gripe i have about this school is that on the mid-terms, they put things that the teachers don't really teach you or give you time to learn. like with my math course, they gave me things that we had never gone over in class, and then my dad had to teach me because our teacher had not explained it.
Other than that, so far I have had a really good experience. When i got there though, one thing that surprised me was how many kids didn't really like school/care about academics. This shocked me, because as a charter school, i expected more kids to be academically advance.
The first 3 months were odd being a new student because it sort of felt like everyone already had friends, including other new students, but after that I found a lovely group of friends.
I enjoy the campus and the library is a great place to study. I do recommend a study-hall for your first couple semesters, as you don't know what classes will give more homework and it is a good idea to scope out each class before selecting one.

Peak to Peak prides itself as a highly academic institution, but they failed to educate my children. After attending for several years my kids had sub-par knowledge of most subjects even though they were in the 90th+ percentile for their grades. The humanities are taught at a bare minimum and in math I would have to reteach the daily lesson. Kids rotate aimlessly between stations and spend too much time on screens. I realize that the quality of education at Peak to Peak is in large a reflection of Supplemental parental support and values. Furthermore Peak to Peak believes in co-parenting our children rather than respecting parental rights. Do yourselves a favor and attend the online board meetings to experience how the school is run, how board votes are counted and ask to see details of whats being taught from the K read-alouds to the AP English literature in high school. The board is supposed to represent the community but at Peak to Peak it is an extension of the Executive Leadership Team.

If you take a look, you will discover that most of the reviews are coming from parents and not the students themselves. I think niche.com gives a more robust look at how students here feel. I have four children at P2P. I agree, it is a rigorous school and is very focused on college. The teachers are great. However, there is a competitive culture and an apathy towards extracurriculars that needs to be addressed. If your child is highly focused and college bound and has little need for social activities or extracurriculars, then yes, this is a school you should look at. If not, I believe many of the other high schools in the area offer just as much rigor through AP course and IB programs as well as many clubs, athletics and art/music programs. My kids love their teachers and classwork, but have felt very alone and isolated in the competitive culture of this school.

Pretty good! We like the small school environment. Many of the teachers are excellent. Overall its ratings are on par or below other schools in its district. If your family does not live within fifteen minutes of its campus, it may not be worth the effort. There is no PTO or parent community, and your kids will loose out on opportunities for neighborhood friendships.

The homework approach varies by grade. Some teachers effectively support classroom learning and test prep with homework. Others use it to teach concepts missed when the teacher is out of the classroom.

This school is producing leaders in many areas! March of 2015 the National Science Foundation gave Honorable Mention for proposed research for a 2010 Peak To Peak Graduate for DNA scanning for cancer research. This student worked hard, valued this schools teachers and innovated administration and board, took full advantage of tutors etc. If your vision is success, to go to work to prosper, not just to work, to exercise incredible drive, to never make excuses, to focus on your goals daily then come and keep your youth amongst excellence at this school, but it takes a FAMILY and a STUDENTS commitment! I graduated from Peak to Peak a few years ago. Looking back on my experience I'm disappointed to say that this school wasn't a positive social/learning environment for me. It's extremely white-washed, and the lack of diversity is propagated by a system which encourages lower-achieving students to self-select out of the school instead of supporting this cohort properly. The administration was ridiculously draconian and they adamantly persecuted students who ran against their cultural grain. The vast majority of teachers are absolutely wonderful, caring, and highly-qualified (they kept me sane during my time there). Academically, I learned a lot at Peak to Peak and was well prepared for college, but then again I came to P2P as a decent student and good standardized test-taker. Unfortunately, the privileged culture and overbearing administration were extremely harmful and by far the worst aspects of Peak to Peak.

I have a 8th grader in this school who had a hard semester after a concussion. The school was so supportive and the teachers ROCK. My son was supported in every class and this was all coordinated by the counselor. This is a great school because of so many wonderful teachers here. Our math teacher (I won't mention her name because she is so humble she might not like this) is amazing. As a parent, I am surprised at all the little miracles that goes on daily in this school. Just want to be a kid again and attend this school!!!!

The teachers are phenomenal, engaging and excited about students learning! High expectations with a lot of support. Excellent IT, math and physics departments. Love it!!

At Peak to Peak Charter School, we have a little slogan that goes as such: "I will strive to achieve excellence in scholarship and character". As a student who has attended this outstanding school for 12 years, I see that the vision in our slogan is more alive every year as I advance through the stages of my education. Peak to Peak is a liberal arts school that builds an "above the average" foundation for education. Our goal is to prepare students for higher education through a rigorous course plan and an advanced curriculum that will put our students above the state average on the college readiness exams, and will allow our students a successful educational experience. The staff at this quaint school work very hard to assure that their students comprehend the material in a no less than 100% manner. As a Dean's List student of Peak to Peak, I feel that I have a home at Peak to Peak. There is a prominent sense of mutual respect among the students; however students do have the traditional high school experience of friendly class rivalry! Peak to Peak is a safe and overall elite school and I feel very blessed to be in the Peak to Peak family!

This school is awesome. Great teachers, the kids excel and a lot of parent involvement. Have been there for 8 years now and daughter loves it. Will stay until 12th and graduate. It is great to have the continuity of the families and teachers.

I remain hopeful that P2P is still the school described in the comment below (Feb. 5th). Theirs is the vision we followed, like a star, to a remarkable school nearly 11 years ago.

My children (all 4) have been at this school for 11 years. I love this school! If you're a parent that encourages and values achievement, and has an expectation that they will attend college then this is a great fit for you. If you have a child who has behavioral problems, he/she may struggle here. Academics are the focus. The teachers are kind and caring, and want to see each child succeed. One of the greatest things is the ability grouping. Students may skip up to another grade for math for example, if academically they are at that level, and each grade level is broken up into at least 3 ability groups. The intervention when students aren't at grade level is impressive; they get special small group instruction and are not taken off the learning plan until they are ready and have performed at grade level consistently. 100% of last year's graduating class (apx 150 students) was accepted to college. And if this doesn't blow you away, those students were offered $16 million in scholarships! That averages to over $100k per student. I agree it's not the perfect school for everyone, but it has been perfect for us, and all 4 of my kids (boys & girls) have thrived here.

Teacher quality, in the elementary school, has gone down in the past couple of years due to hiring of under qualified people. The administration is very poor. The one just recently hired is not even qualified to be in the position, but they created it for her, rather than seek a good candidate. There is a very superficialness about the school. There are problems in grades that just get swept under the rug instead of being dealt with. The intermediate is very poor with regard to teacher quality. Parental involvement is very good, although, some act like it is a private school rather than a public. Bullying is handled in the typical 'Boulder' style with unrealistic solutions. There is good still but is is sadly declining, and the stagnant turnover of the non-effective teachers along with the hiring of para-educators who have been passed over time and again because they weren't good enough to get a job, finally get a job given to them without any search or competition. High School is Great! A bit rigorous, but good for any student that wants college prep.
