Our daughter is in 3rd grade at Mountain Sage Community School and we are so happy that she gets to learn in such a special place! Mountain Sage has one of the only play-based Kindergartens in Fort Collins and the time they spend outside and in play, developing social-emotional skills, is invaluable. Academics are introduced when developmentally appropriate, not when the state deems it necessary, and yet all students are caught up or advanced by 3rd grade. The ability to learn when they're truly ready leads to a love of learning vs hating something they have to do before they're ready to. The arts and music curriculums are beautifully curated and go above and beyond any others I've seen locally. Their focus on sustainability (the children compost on-site from the start!) and their gardening program, including the incredible aquaponic geodesic dome on the playground, is one-of-a-kind. The staff is great-- they truly embrace the Waldorf philosophy. The school is tuition FREE! They meet all state standards for learning. It's truly special.

My daughter, Zora - now 11 in 5th grade, has been going to Mountain Sage since Kindergarten. My husband and I are very happy with the school. The values this school is focusing on and teaching my daughter are very important to us and go along with our parenting style. The respect and consideration of our planet, teaching her to love to learn before giving her the knowledge. The staff is wonderful and always listening to the children’s needs at the different stages of their growth. I highly recommend Mountain Sage!

Our family has been involved with various private and public Waldorf schools thru the years, and Mountain Sage is a great balance of Waldorf education and "the real world". The teachers care about the work they do, there is something special and meaningful about have the same teacher 1-5 and then 6-8th grade that provides deep connection. We are so grateful for this wonderful community.

Our experience at Mountain Sage Community School, and the community of families, has been wonderful. The teachers have been wonderful and bring such positive energy to the classroom. They genuinely seem to care about all of the students in their classes. They take a holistic focus on the whole child. They encourage creativity. I love the way they integrate academic concepts from a variety of ways, such as building mathematical concepts starting with handwork. We also like the way they engage children in the learning process, building their own workbooks and doing projects. There are definitely a lot of great options out there for schools, but we have no regrets over choosing Mountain Sage Community School for our children.

The teachers at Mountain Sage Community School have been great. By moving through grades with the children they get to know them incredibly well, their strengths, their weaknesses, and how to work with them. Some might worry about being "stuck" with a teacher, but our kids teachers have been great. Each summer it seems like the teachers get more training and come to school energized.

Perhaps above all things, Mountain Sage focuses on the students as people. The atmosphere at Mountain Sage is beautiful. We love how the older grades work with the younger grades. We attended an alumni event for returning students and were very impressed with their maturity and thoughtfulness.

The school director at Mountain Sage is wonderful and is fully invested in the students, her teachers and staff, and the vision of the school. The school also has teachers mentor each other.

Our children have not had significant challenges to overcome, but the teachers have certainly worked with us whenever our kids were struggling in an area. I think the way the school employs mentoring between teachers and the fact that teachers stay with classes across multiple grades has been used to good effect in this regard.

This school honors my children as individuals and they are not just numbers getting lost in the system. There, they produce loving, kind-hearted, team players, globally savvy, hands-on sustainable little humans that we can put out into the world and be proud of their knowledge they've gained there! We will need their hearts and knowledge for our future planet! These teachers are "all-in" and love our kids like their own.

Our son was struggling in regular public school (kindergarten & first grade). He was below grade level in most subjects. When we made the switch to this Waldorf charter school, he thrived! Now in 4th grade, he is at grade level in every subject and reading at a 7th grade level. Can't say enough about how wonderful this school has been for us!

This is a fabulous school that values children as whole human beings. The teachers are knowledgeable and caring. My son is the happiest he's ever been since attending this school. He's even taking responsibility and pride in his homework, which was not the case at his prior "traditional" school. This is the way school should be for all children. I would definitely recommend this school for parents who want their children to receive a thorough, arts-integrated, and wholistic education.

My two children have been at Mountain Sage since the opening of the school. What I see is a wonderful new program that is itself growing and learning with each year. Year two was a world away from year one, and I believe that each successive year will continue on this path to excellence.

One of my children is a person who is slower to arrive at academic success. The faculty at Mountain Sage have met my child where he is with love and grace, working to maintain the inherent joy he finds in learning while pushing him to reach milestones. As parents, we have been engaged in this process by his classroom and the integrated services teachers. We feel just as accountable to his success as they do, and we appreciate being brought in to discuss options and see the reality of the situation while openly discussing who he is as a person.

My other child achieves academic success more easily, and for her the whole person aspect of Mountain Sage's curriculum is paramount. While she would probably do well anywhere we placed her, the attention placed on meeting her developmentally, not just academically, is proving to be an important learning tool.

We adore the faculty and staff at the school. They have grown a wonderful team atmosphere that feels strong and able to face the many challenges that come with opening a new charter school with a very alternative focus. They continue their own education through the summer with trainings specific to Waldorf charter schools and other topics specific to each of their needs. Additionally, we are thrilled that our children get the same classroom teacher until 6th grade.

In short, Mountain Sage feels to me like the nexus of Waldorf, environmental education, charter school, and community school. Aspects of each of these are present everyday and continue to grow and improve. We are glad we found Mountain Sage and are happy to continue on through the years.

We have two children that have attended this school since the beginning. Their language skills in German and Spanish are impressive. The dedication we have with community is being held within this school. Their skills working with each other is symbolic to what the older community should look like.

This Waldorf inspired charter school is a perfect fit for our daughter. We have been incredibly pleased with our experience. It is a new school and this year it will be in its 3rd year running. It is growing and refining as time goes on. We have been with the school since the beginning and are totally in love with all aspects of it. The teachers are amazing and dedicated. I've participated in the parent council (which All parents are encouraged to do) and it is so wonderful to have your voice heard and participate in the development of our school. It is truly an Amazing school!

Mountain Sage Community School is a Waldorf inspired public charter school. I have to say it is a crime to allow them to claim to be anything close to a Waldorf school. A traditional Waldorf education is a rich and vibrant education with a deep level of knowledge and helps children learn how to think not what to think. MSCS is not at all like this. The culture of the school is very natural and environmentally focused which we love however the purpose falls short. For example the children have gardening class each week but when I ask what they learned, they tell me nothing. Gardening classes are a great opportunity to teach about botany and natural habitat and crop rotations and rain fall and organics and photosynthesis and soil types and geology, etc however they just have the children go out there and dig holes and pull weeds and learning slips through the cracks. The overall academics are dreadful. I encourage you to look up their TCAP scores. Less than 50% of 3rd graders are proficient or advanced in math. The students learn zero science, technology, American history, or social studies. They will however, learn to knit.
