I attended this school from 1st–12th grade and graduated with a 3.8 GPA. While I made a few lifelong friends and had some good teachers, I would not recommend this school to parents. My parents deeply regret keeping me enrolled.

Although the elementary school has reportedly improved in recent years, that progress gives a misleading impression of how the middle and high school operate. Opportunities are extremely limited: few clubs, weak sports programs (many students play for other schools), and the band program was recently eliminated.

Despite branding itself as a “college prep” school, it does not adequately prepare students for college. There is little to no guidance on degree paths, transferable credits, or college resources. I graduated with random AIMS classes that have had no value toward my degree due to poor advising and inflexible policies. Graduation requirements also change frequently, creating unnecessary confusion.

The school has a pattern of pushing out students who struggle or don’t “fit.” Test scores look strong largely because students who need support are not given proper resources and eventually leave. Students with disabilities are especially underserved, with accommodations ignored and staff inadequately trained.

Middle school has long-standing bullying and behavior issues. Serious incidents, including sexual assault, were dismissed due to “lack of proof.” Today, behavior problems are significantly worse, and teachers lack the resources to manage them. In contrast, nearby public schools handle similar age groups far more effectively.

Administrative culture is also concerning. While I respect the principal, broader administration and counseling staff routinely violated confidentiality. As a former office aide, I personally overheard inappropriate gossip about students, including racist remarks from staff.

High teacher turnover, unqualified instructors in critical courses, and policies where a single paper can determine graduation after 12 years further highlight systemic failures.

I am a good student in spite of this school, not because of it.

i went to the union colony schools until 8th grade , both the elementary and the prepatory and overall the whole school is just horrible. most teachers are trying their best but the administration of this school will ignore your childs needs. there has been numerous ped0philes and overall dangerous people that have taught or worked at this school, if you dont believe me look it up. the students try their best to go to the administration and try to get them to solve the problem, but they either never say anything or overall do nothing about it. you dont get freedom to wear what you want, youll get detention for wearing a shirt that shows even the tiniest bit of stomach, the teachers will distract themselves from teaching because your shirt shows the tiniest bit of cleavage. not to mention the lack of extracurriculars such as sports and clubs, the people feel so dull and you see the same 15-20 people everyday to rumors and bullying spreads super quickly. so many people have hurt themselves and others because of how hard it is to fit the kids standards at union colony. my time at ucps was some of the hardest years of my life. the teachers will embarass you, the counselors will tell everything you say to your family, and the administration will let teachers stare at your b00bs. please please PLEASE. if youre thinking about bringing your child to this school, reconsider. just think about it may be convinient for you, but one year at this school will have your kid depressed and wanting to leave. this school is too stressful and the people and administration are horrible people.

Union colony prep is very poorly managed. The administration is doesn’t do anything about the issues going on in the school like bullying, discrimination, and etc. The AD/vice principal is sexist. The athletic department needs severe help. There are very few students that actually want to be at union colony. If you can go anywhere else I would.

My daughter and I both love Union Colony! She is coming up on the end of second grade and has been here since kindergarten! Every year she says her teacher is her favorite! The teachers have great communication with parents. I definitely recommend Union Colony to any and every family!

The administration is not professional or helpful. Teachers and staff target students as troublemakers and there is nothing you can do. Their standards are not reasonable and once you are behind then you have to go to another school.

If I could not give a star I wouldn't, both my boys have ADHD one is on an IEP and a 504 plan and the other is on a 504 plan they did not get any help they were supposed to. There is a large group of kids that are trouble makers at this school and the principal and assistant principal do not follow through with anything they are supposed to. My boys could have done more on their part and that is their fault but why should they care when the teachers and school obviously don't care. we have a prior obligation on the last day of school so I went in and spoke with the assistant principal and he said that Monday (today)_ and Tuesday they would be able to sit in the office and get all their finals done. So I'm at work today four hours into the school day and they had already supposedly finished their finals and they took the boy's computers and called us to come to pick them up because they didn't want to deal with them anymore. After they knew I can't leave work. they don't care about any students unless they are perfect straight-A students. If your kid had an IEP or 504 plan or any disability I WOULD DEFINITELY NOT send them to this school it is setting them up to fail!!!

They give us so much homework I can't even sleep at night. It's not even funny, I have not learned a single thing from doing any of the homework from this place, aside from a new method to cheat on it because it is so tedious and not interesting at all.

This school is a sure fire way to destroy any kids character and there is no respect anywhere in the school. I have no respect for any of the teaching staff over there and that's because they don't respect me. Everybody just complains about the school, I and many others just sit through it, passing days, waiting for the day we can finally leave this place.

There is no leadership over there, just an illusion of it so the kids parents think that everything is okay even when it absolutely is not, which is basically all of the time. They have never once admitted to any of their mistakes, they just try their best to pretend like they care while people slowly forget about what happened.

The teachers bully the students of UCPS. Everyone has just gotten used to the bullying though so its alright. No one cares about anything anymore. Some (students and teachers) pretend like they do, but they don't.

Socially, the school is not much better. Given it's very small population for a high school, drama spreds like wildfire and in combination with the fact that students see the same people day after day for years, feuds are very very common. This all results in a very toxic environment filled with rumors and gossip. The faculty is unfortunately not much better. Feuds between teachers is common and teamwork among coworkers is slim to none. The administration is a mess as well, leading to financial problems, lack of communication and/or organization. In conclusion I would like to strongly caution anyone who is considering attending this school based both on personal experiences and from what I have observed.

Stress is constantly put on kids to get the highest grade possible regardless of how much they actually learned. This puts alot of unnecessary pressure on kids often resulting in anxiety and depression

At the beginning of the year teachers pick and choose their favorites and stick with those decisions for the rest of that classes 4 year career. This is very helpful for those who are on the list as they are often let off easier and/or recieve little to no consequences when they step out of line. However for kids who are not considered "favorites" it is very hard to pass their classes due to both pressure from the teachers and an egotistical feeling of superiority projected by those who are on the list.

Students that are not seen as a favorite of the teacher's are blamed for not knowing the material regardless of how much effort they put into the class. Many of the teachers treat it as "just a job" and will rarely go out of they're way to help students understand the material. This forces students to try other methods in order to pass such as cheating on tests and/or copying homework from other students.

Leadership/administration at the school is a mess to say the least. There is no communication whatsoever leading to rules applying to one teacher's classroom and not another. Some teachers dont get along well with eachother leading to toxic gossip amongst eachother and a severe lack of teamwork. The administration is aware of the problems that exist at the school both financially and faculty wise yet do nothing to fix them.

Classes are all "taught" the same regardless of each individual student's learning habits. If a student doesn't understand the material they are often blamed for "not paying attention" or "not studying" This often makes students feel abandoned or depressed and there have been several instances where students have resulted to self harm to cope with the anxiety and pressure that comes with attending this school. I dont mean to trash this school by any means but would like to strongly caution any parent considering enrolling their child at this school.

As a student at this school currently, I would only recommend it if your student is ready for an academic challenge. Junior year is incredibly difficult and nearly impossible to stay on top of everything while being involved without being incredibly stressed. Senior year is less intimidating but there is a lot riding on a single paper that determines whether or not you graduate. The math program does NOT prepare you for college at all. The teachers that have been hired in the past two years are frustrating and I didn't learn or retain anything from the classes. The music and arts programs are great. The small class size is nice but can get boring and tensions have definitely formed especially during the senior year when you are hardly even at the school.

As a student at UCPS I recommend this school it is a great school and the teachers help students with their work. There is no bulling at this school and I think it does get you ready for the real world and college. It is a challenge but it has great learning systems!

This school is very challenging, but my kids thrive becuase of the small class size. My children came from a very low performing district school and both of them have had to learn the basics of grammer and math. Union Colony has been able to do this. Yes my kids spend alot of time doing homework, but their friends at other schools are out getting in trouble because they hardly have anything to do. I don't get along with all the teachers but I don't expect too. I do wish they had more shool clubs. When it comes right down to it I would not send my kids anywhere else. This school is doing what they are supposed to do, educating kids, not entertaining them. If they don't work they flunk or their parents move them out. At this school kids need parent support (no vacations or ski trips when homework is due) If education does not come first then don't go to this school.

As a current student at UCPS, I must advise prospective parents and students to think carefully before going here. The school is extremely crowded for the size of it, bullying is common, the pacing is very fast, the math program is terrible, and the workload is borderline rediculous (particularly junior and senior year of high school here). Due to the number of students, this school can take on a very "cliquey" atmosphere to it. Despite the schools best efforts, there have been a number of bullying incidents that have grown out of control, resulting once in having to leave the school for psychological reasons (Eventually I returned after having problems with staff at another school, thinking that things would have improved. They did not.). That in conjunction with the workload and trying to keep up with the very fast pace can prove very stressful. Then there is the math program. It does not teach math in a rigid, step by step, traditional method. It uses group activity, vague formulas, the student must first try to figure the problems out in the homework before being taught how to solve them, and often avoids the traditional methods in which to solve common mathematical problems.
