School is overall good however, lack of communication with faculty is extremely poor, especially when the parents are needing to reach out

Do not fall for the hype like we did. Bullying from the teachers, humiliating students in the classroom in front of their peers I could go on and on. The grass is not greener here. The principal will never return your calls to handle serious issues and the teachers treat parents and students poorly. The only difference I have noticed is more work it’s not a better curriculum just more homework and projects. Choose wisely

My experience as an 8th grade student at this school is not very great. Although they do have great test scores and mostly good grades, the amount of strict rules and enforcements put on the students is greatly overwhelming. Students are hardly given any freedom and expected to follow rules that are very unreasonable at all times. "You must have your shirt tucked in even if you're wearing a hoodie overtop, and not doing so will result in a writeup." The teachers are unreasonable and strict, and push an overwhelming amount of classwork onto you. This school is not made for kids who struggle in a strict type of environment, which most teenagers do. I have asked many kids about how they like this school and their response is always, "No," or, "I'm alright with it." While some kids fit the top-perfect student model that the teachers and administrators want them to have, the majority finds every way possible to rebel at least a tiny bit. I have friends and know people who struggle and also find it to be too much. The only time I would recommend this school is if your child is smart, willing to follow the regulations and overly strict rules, and ok with being piled with work in front of them continuously.

As a parent, I have experienced the following: no response to phone calls, promises of contact without follow up, a teacher giving zero's when my child was sick and reporting it in focus (my child had not returned to school to do the work), and administration not showing up for a pre-planned meeting. The above was not because we were having discipline issues. It was because we had concerns over grades and assignments.
We chose NBH because we were concerned about our zoned schools. There are many issues here. NBH is presented as the best....you should consider your options carefully.

This really depends on the teacher. Some are great with high expectations. Others are passive and let the kids get away with irresponsibility.

My kids love the school, but there is a disconnect between parents and the teachers/admin. If you present them with an issue, it is dismissed. If a student (in some classes) doesn't do their home work, it's ok, turn it in whenever! Extra credit is allowed when a student doesn't do their homework. All projects during the process is graded, but presentation and physically bringing it in, everyone gets an "A". As a parent I do not like it when a teacher defends my child and questions my parenting, when a child is not doing assignments. I was asked if I was offering rewards? Seriously!?!? At 12, they need to do their homework without a cookie or sticker! The beginning of the year there are informative meetings and your told there are high academic expectation, personal accountability, and a high expectation of success. Last year I would agree, but it's been all down hill this year. Everyone gets a trophy, discipline has majorly declined and it feels like all standards have went out the window. Uniform policy is not even as enforced as last year. Many teachers are great, some are too nice and weak in discipline, and administration is not good (mainly the principal). The principal this year is not responsive to parents and is not a very nice person. All other administration is very nice and cooperative. It is the best school in the area and like I said, my kids love it. I feel they don't work with parents, on many levels.

This is an outstanding school with dedicated staff and teachers. My son is attending for the first time this year and we have seen a complete positive "can do", "want to be the best" emerge. He has gone from an ESE student in elementary school to A/B honor roll in regular 6th grade classes. The teachers earn the students respect, discipline is well maintained, the students are academically challenged. Parents are required to become involved in the school and the academic success of their children. Both the parents and the students have to adjust to the homework requirements. This school is simply the best!
