This school is the cause of the worst years of my life. It contains a genuinely violent atmosphere with no care for the well-being of students. I recall being punched in the face in front of an Assistant Principal and for them watch as blood pours from nose, only to show me no care and only mildly reprimand the student who threw the punch. Teachers anespecially administrators don't care about the children in this school. Furthermore, the principal, Odalys Pritchard, is a truly deplorable human being. How insecure does one have to be to torment and power-trip over children?

im a student here and i have been bullied for a long time IN FRONT of teachers they brush it off the teachers are nice but the dont do anything to help kids being bullied cuz the bullyies (mostly) there favorites the give way to much class work the only reason this school has high scores is becaseu of the cruve from other schools in the district just go to a private school

We had a wonderful experience at Coleman. We were very concerned with middle school because middle school - LOL but honestly it has far surpassed our expectations. Covid caused a lot of upheaval and many teachers left or retired but it has settled so much more. The staff an admin truly care about the kids.

The reputation of Coleman Middle School, particularly the principal Odalys Pritchard, is unfortunate. In the school, the principal is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and coordination. She should focus on developing and maintaining effective educational programs within her school in order to improve teaching and learning. A PARENTS RELATIONSHIP should not be entered into without consulting a mother first. She decided not to program my daughter to Plant High School, yet she programmed her to go to another high school. We have to reregister her if we want her to attend Plant High School, which is a stupid thing she could have done. This is nonsense since we live within walking distance of the school. This is the worst principal in many years, and she should be fired.

This school is truly terrible. The teachers are the ones who bully. The guidance counselor doesnt care about the kids . The office staff is rude and do not have social skills. My child hated going there every day. Educators should know better than to behave the way the staff at this school does. Every day felt like we were going back in time to less civilized people. I write this review because if I had known the truth it could have saved my child from such a terrible experience. Hopefully this review helps others.

My son has had a great experience at Coleman. He has made many friends and his grades are extremely good. He likes his teachers very much and feels challenged by the curriculum. Coleman is a wonderful school. Middle school has been smooth sailing for our family.

My daughter is just about to complete 7th grade and has one more year at Coleman - I definitely was concerned about the transition from elementary to middle, and had seen mixed reviews on the internet -- but ANYONE I talked with in person about current OR past experience with Coleman, was extremely positive and made me feel at ease.
The principal is very involved - his children attended (and It is my understanding that he did as well).
The teachers have been great (my daughter had a bad experience in 1 class this year and in 1 class last year - very tough teachers), but this is LIFE and not every teacher will be liked - it is better that they learn NOW rather than LATER.
I read comments about foul language - I think the values learned at home play a big part in this - foul language will always be around, we hear it every day in public, at sports events, on tv etc. - it is important that we don't put 100% blame on the schools (if this language is coming from the kids, they are getting it somewhere (whether it be at home from older siblings or parents, or in the games they play or television they watch) It is important as a parent to prepare our child for that middle school experience - If it isn't spoken or acceptable in the home, then it will be harder for a child to use the language elsewhere....
Bullying: I have asked my daughter on several occasions if she has been bullied or witnessed it and the answer has always been a solid "NO".
1 year left to go and crossing my fingers that all is good for 8th -
I can only speak of my experience as a parent with a child at Coleman (and my daughter loves the school - the first thing out of my mouth to my daughter when it comes to possible punishment for bad behavior would be "next year you might be going to private school instead of Coleman" and it stops any thought of negative behavior in its tracks :)
I give Coleman middle an "A" rating!

At first we were thrilled to attend Coleman as we came from neighboring Grady Elementary and a fabulous experience. We assumed the experience would be similar as Grady is a feeder school. The staff at Coleman and Principal/Leadership is abrasive and non apologetic. The language and experiences coming home is beyond unacceptable, shame on you Coleman leadership. Talk of VERY inappropriate topics are commonplace, especially for the 6th graders. This school only cares about teaching the kids to pass the state tests to keep their status and funding vs teaching the kids to learn and be better humans. We have decided to pull our son and go to private school for next year. Grady was fantastic, Coleman is by far the most underwhelming school with over blown egos and leadership we have ever experienced.

We have an adhd student, also ELL (English as a learning language). They say they make accommodations but they get irritated and good too fast, he gets left behind all the time. We continually fight for the balance.

Principal has been there his entire life, new blood is needed to move forward. The leadership feels they are awesome, do no wrong, etc. but read the reviews from parents like me, an overwhelming disagree with them. This school would benefit by the district moving people around. Horrible attitude.

The foul stories, foul language are commonplace to the point we've had to go into the school a few times to inquire where it was coming from. It's beyond inappropriate for 6th grade. We'll be going to private school next year, this is unacceptable to us.

1 out of 6 that we have are caring enough to engage in the extra mile, super disappointed in Science Teacher - it was my son's favorite topic but she has ruined that for sure. The older teachers need to develop new modern skills and techniques or retire.

Horrible communication to parents, each teacher uses EDSBY in a different way, you can check it at 5pm and then a teacher will put something in there at 6pm and totally miss it. Way too much homework, I've never been so busy as a parent trying to help with homework, we have a tutor 2x's a week, Mathnasium and it's not enough. This is a ridiculous approach, they are not learning this way.

Horrible school, both of my kids went to Coleman the years that the principle had his two kids there and the only kids that would get any awards would be his kids of course. On top of that I had to talk to administer about a teacher insulting my child all the time and even hit her. Thankfully she doesn't teach there anymore. They only care if you you're a parent with lots of money. I hate this school.

This school lacks integrity given that they will not deal with any issues with their students. They will not help the students in any given situation due to the lack of getting involved. The administration will not address issues pertaining to bullying.

My daughter is in 6th grade and goes to this school. She had the worse school year ever. She has been bullied and sexually harassed by boys. She has mentioned it to the guidance counselor a few times and nothing has been done about the situation. My daughter doesn't want to go to school at Coleman, in the district. She has been bullied by several of the kids that belong to a group. She was also tripped in the hallway by a bully, but was told if she said anything to anyone she would regret it. This administration doesn't care about the well being of the students at all. The school is very discriminating and have been less than professional on many issues. I would expect more out of a school that has multi-million dollar homes in their community, that high tax dollars are supporting.

Day one of school and I am already thinking it was a bad choice to put my child into this school. They are extremely unorganized and do not communicate well with the parents or students. My child is so lost and does not know where to turn to for help. My child is frustrated and already wants to go elsewhere. It was hard to get my child to agree to change schools. My child struggles with school and the person they have in charge of putting together the curriculum and schedules seems to be a complete idiot. He seems to be putting them into sensory overload rather than helping them achieve.

Numerous teachers at this school are verbally abusive to students. Every day I hear a new story about something inappropriate that a teacher said to a student ranging from calling them dumb and stupid to idiots and morons etc. Why the administration allows this to continue is a mystery to me but if it continues next year I will no longer contact the school directly. I will go straight to the school board and demand that teachers dismissal. Students go to Coleman to learn, not to be verbally abused by their teachers. No wonder so many of the kids there are so verbally cruel to each other....their teachers are setting terrible examples for them on a daily basis.

This school would greatly benefit from character and ethics education for it's students since they don't appear to be learning it at home. There are an abundance of rich, bratty, entitled kids at this school that don't seem to know right from wrong or even care. Academically, it's challenging, but the homework load is ridiculous to the point that it leaves no room for extracurricular activities. This leaves me to believe teachers aren't using their class time efficiently enough. In private schools of equal academic merit, students have a study period to help with the homework load. Coleman would benefit from starting an hour earlier and providing a study period, as well.
