Progress Village Middle Magnet School

Not the best school, I went to this school for 2 years (1 year online, another year in person) The student's at this school aren't the nicest, There are many perverted children there, boys and girls, Girls and boys both-- are sexually harrassed,Bullied,talked about, etc. i remember, in my second year there, i was suspended twice! for something that was so small, in fact-- I didn't even do it! there was a vandalism outbreak at my school where children would write mean and nasty things about teachers and students on the walls, there would be many students accused of doing this (i was one) but didn't do it. there are many fights that teachers don't care about, if you get hurt on school grounds, teachers laugh at you, and the whole school will know what happened, i remember one girl said i "sexually harrassed her" and she told some people, and the whole school ended up knowing, i was suspended (i didn't do it) and when I was sexually harassed, The teachers (even my own mother) didn't believe me, and somehow the whole school found out. progress village isn't really the best school to go to. :/

Unfortunately Progress Village Middle has yet to exhibit it's adherence to individuality and hold up to the Slogan " Where every child is a STAR! " From the front office staff to administration you do not immediately get any of the dedication listed and pledged during open house or on Hillsboroughschools.com; My child entered 6th grade with high hopes of this magnet schools diversity and settings for success but has been continuously let down. My contacts with calling in for absence or inquiry have been met with the least amount of concern - you will never get an answer to a call to include a greeting or even know who you are speaking with unless you ask and then you have to combat the attitude given for having asked. Correspondence severely lacking between administration and parents, teachers have been outspoken in their belief that if you work well in a classroom setting your testing should reflect that but again, every child is different are they not? Advocating for your child is not easily done at Progress Village and please be mindful that there is obvious bias. I can say the support staff, counselors and nursing office has been caring, considerate and always communicative but sadly, I do not think the current state or facilitation of every day agenda makes for an impressionable year in the lives of students who have just begun to scale the precipice of their education. I hope changes can be made to reach the level conveyed when parents and schoolboard are present as it should manifest daily and be demonstrated by all who became educators for the common goal of child success.

Just look at the response from the school to others and you can clearly see the lack of compassion. Seems extremely despondent and sharp coming from a school like this.

Great school! The principal, asst. principal staff and teachers are wonderful. They truly care about their students. If you have any problems they don’t just brush it under the rug. They will address any issues you or your child may have. I would recommend to anyone interested in the arts.

Electives should not have homework, I get homework from dance, and band and honestly it's a little weird.

This school has really fun electives. :) Right now I'm doing dance and the teacher is amazing. I'm a 6th grade student right now and the teachers make learning so fun, I love it here.

I'm a 6th grader here at Progress Village and my experience here is AMAZING!! There are a lot of arts that we can choose from. I'm an orchestra student and I LOVE it!! The teachers here are really nice and I haven't heard of a fight so far here. The neighborhood may seem bad but the school is not!!

I have to admit one of my friends got into a fight, but my friend was way smaller than the other person. So my friend was bruised and knocked out, even though none of this was her fault. The principal allowed the other student to be unpunished, due to possible mental illness such ADHD. Well my thought is, if that's the issue why isn't she with anger management. That's rude I know, but honest.

-Student to Progress Village Middle Magnet (8th grader)-
I am in the class of 2015-2016 8th graders, and I must say in my so far 2 years of going to this school its been a good experience. Like every school, there are some issues, but overall I definitely love going to school. They promote art into your school work to make it more fun and appealing. But the most I love about this school is the fact that as much I they praise the art programs, they also want each student to do excellent in their academic grades. For example, in my 7th grade year I had a little complications with my grades, and even though my grade had improved in a matter of a week, the guidance counselor takes her time to call down each student that had an D or lower in any classes to talk to them and discuss what could happen if this doesn't change before the end of the year. Overall, this school is great but I'm definitely looking forward to Freshman Year more than anything

I'm gonna say too much. Not just because I'm a kid, and I'm not a big fan of homework. But I honestly don't get why electives have to give you homework, I mean you're an elective.

Even though in my sixth grade year at PV, I was bullied and it was handled right off the bat. But some of my other friends were not treated with the same fairness. I won't go into detail.

New administration is extremely poor at communication. They do not reply to emails. Period. Not even a slow response they simply do not respond! We receive a Sunday phone call for the week ahead that provides little or no time to plan anything. All of the people who were available to parents at the beginning of the school year have left and any attempt at speaking to the Principal leaves you with a "I look into that" while looking at his phone... After a year full of multiple schedule changes, increased "disturbances" , and employees leaving, we are taking heed. We will not be back next year nor would I recommend this school to anyone. It is a shame because there really are some great teachers but they have NO leader.

**** 6th grade families****This summers reading assignment of the novel A corner of the Universe .I know our children are exposed to situations that they may not comprehend, without our guidance and explanation. Our words may help them grasp or absorb the meaning of circumstances that are good or bad. I feel parents should read this book with their student due to the content ( adult) of the novel.******* This book is an insightful look into the lives of Hattie, a girl who feels that she is an outsider who tends not to have many friends her own age, and her young Uncle Adam, whose unusual mental difficulties have caused her family to keep his existence a secret from Hattie until the summer that she turns twelve. Hattie learns a lot about being more open and accepting during this summer because of her uncle, and figures out that life is about "changing what's handed to you, about poking around a little, lifting the corners, seeing what's underneath, all sounds fine and dandy Actually there is a lot more to it.

I have an 8th grader and a 6th grader at this school. They have had absolutely the best middle school experience I could have hoped.for. They feel safe and happy, and are excited about going to school every day. The arts program has really helped my kids blossom and develop confidence in themselves and the academic rigor has challenged them consistently. I was worried about middle school and bullying since both my kids are small for their age but instead they have developed friendships and feel included. I recommend the school to everyone.

The bulling in the school is out of control. My daughter was getting bullied and my daughter defended herself. My daughter was suspended and the bully was not punished. The faulty does nothing to stop it. When I told the principal my daughter was not going to attend the following yr due to the bulling, he asked if he could speak with her and nothing happened. They seem to promote bulling instead of stopping it.

I am an 8th grader at Progress Village and I must say, I absolutely love this school. When I first found out about the school I didn't want to go because of where it was located. I thought it would be a school with bad kids and fights, ect. In all honesty, I was completely wrong. I love going to school everyday. This school is like my second home. I met my best friends here and the teachers are amazing too. They care about us students as if we are their own children. Also, the arts part of the school is great. I am in the band program and I feel like part of a big, loving and caring family being in band. Progress Village is definitely a good school.

This is a wonderful school. My daughter has attended this school for sixth and seventh grade and it has been such a positive experience for her. There is a climate of high expectations for both behavior and academics. The teachers are very dedicated. The students are involved in meaningful activities, which leaves little time for misbehavior. My daughter loves all the choices for electives and the academic courses are also very challenging.

For every 5th grader who loves the arts and wants a good education, attend Progress Village. The teachers and staff are amazing, and they offer all kinds of opportunities here to help everybody succeed in both academics and the arts.

This school is an amazing school. My sister used to go to progress village and she loved it. And I'm starting as a 6th grader and I'm Overwhelmed with excitement. I've gotten so much compliment and good thing said about progress village middle magnet school. I will be attending in P.E and Culinary arts in this school and everybody is telling me I will have the best time at this school. In 7th grade I would be glad to join the yearbook/ Journalism Committee for my third elective. People have also told me you make a lot of new friends and they soon to become best friends and they would be from a school you have never heard about. But I would Definitely recommend this school

I've never went there but id like too and i don't know how!!!! my mom called the school and she said to go to a sight and sign up i looked for everything to sign up there's not one thing to sign up!!!

I highly recommend this school, especially if your child has an interest or talent in music, orchestra, art, theater, sewing, cooking, etc. My son had a wonderful time during his 3 years there (2008 - 2011) - overall the teachers were great and they really work with the kids to bring out the best in them. The principal is wonderful and dedicated, as is the staff. My son blossomed at this school and we rarely heard of any negative incidents or violence. Besides all the emphasis in the Arts, it's also academically an "A" school.
