I recently graduated from Seabreeze High School, and while there were some good teachers and experiences, there were also several issues that made the environment frustrating and unsupported for many students.

One major concern was the rat problem in Building 14. Multiple parents had to repeatedly contact the principal and the county before any action was taken. While there was some improvement, the issue was never fully resolved, and rats were still present afterward. It felt like the administration saw partial progress and decided that was good enough.

The administration overall often came across as unsupportive. When students asked for guidance or help, staff frequently acted as though students were inconveniencing them rather than genuinely trying to help.

Academically, the school places heavy pressure on honors students to enroll in AP and AICE courses. If you decline, there can be continued pressure to reconsider. On the other side, students with lower GPAs or test scores often seem overlooked rather than supported, and many are encouraged toward local charter schools instead of being helped to improve.

There are also issues with testing policies. Students in AP and AICE classes are still required to take regular state testing in addition to their AP or AICE exams, even when those exams can qualify for exemptions. Many students feel this is done to boost the schools overall testing scores and rankings, which the school frequently promotes, rather than for the benefit of the students themselves. It creates unnecessary stress and contributes to a school performance image that does not fully reflect the student experience.

Finally, unless you are part of the AICE cohort, the school does not seem very supportive of students pursuing dual enrollment opportunities.

Overall, the school has potential, but there are ongoing issues with student support, administration responsiveness, and how differently students are treated depending on their academic standing.

I have two students at Seabreeze. Overall, their experience has been positive in both learning and social environments. Seabreeze offers many special programs (AICE Cambridge, Allied Health, Agriculture, AP courses, Arts, etc.) and has a variety of sports teams. I have been able to support my children and found that the administration and their teachers have always been helpful.

Like with every school, your experience is what you make of it. You can dwell on the things Seabreeze falls short on or focus on where they are clearly succeeding. I have a spectrum student here and while there are challenges, the entire school has been absolutely amazing with navigating his good and bad days, as well as when mama bear needs to step in and get involved on rare occasions. There has been so much acceptance within the athletic program with him and our entire family is extremely excited about all of the positive changes that are coming in that department. Academically speaking, his teachers have sometimes struggled with his accommodations, but as long as I remember they are human too and just need a reminder, it works out. The teachers really have been great, even the ones that I know can't wait for my kiddo to be out of their class, but they are all handling it with grace and the patience he needs to be successful which is all I can ask for as he really is thriving at this school and I'm so grateful for everyone there.

This school has the most incompetent staff I have ever had to deal with. It does not matter what we need we get the wrong information, the wrong books, the wrong dates etc.. etc every single time there is always an issue.
I have never been so frustrated with school staff.

The school is generally okay in that its average across the board. Some teachers are wonderful while others are incredibly mediocre. There is definite favoritism amongst the administrative staff with students they befriend. The classwork differs between classes but the work ethic in the school is very lax overall.

I would give Seabreeze HS a very poor rating. My three daughters had terrible bullying experiences that were never addressed.

Half of my classes gave us the same weekly cycle of bookwork and a test with a couple others literally just having us sit in class and do our work online. In reality you could do nearly all of the work teachers give students at home but you're forced to come in 5 pointless days a week for 7 pointless hours.

While some can be better than others, the majority absolutely suck and class is pretty much dictated entirely by the teacher with administration having no care to control the teachers and put them at any standard whatsoever.

Who even are the leaders? I've never once seen the principal around the school and the Student Council never gets anything done. Teachers could not care less and the kids do nothing but get high all day.

I don't have any personal experience as I have no learning disability, but they have what looks like a dedicated group of teachers that help those kids out. Although, if you have one of the lighter disabilities they may still put you in normal classes where I saw a kid with problems get somewhat bullied.

God awful experience. I learned pretty much nothing, yet somehow this is one of the better schools in Florida? I can't imagine what the actual bad schools look like. Just do online schooling as it is much faster, convenient, and better. I suppose this is simply a school like any other one, absolutely pathetic. Low funding and even more cuts to education from the Republicans doesn't help it anymore.

Seabreeze, the only A school in Volusia county for the year of 2013-2014, has helped me tremendously. The staff is beyond helpful and supportive and strive to help the students in their educational path. They are there for those who need extra help with something and want you to understand the curriculum to the best of your abilities. Although it is an old school it has been recently remodeled and is very beautiful. There's a minor drug problem but it's in every highschool to be honest. So happy to say I'll be graduating from Seabreeze highschool! Class of 2015

There is a pervasive drug culture at this high school. We are removing our daughter from this school just to get her away from the pot. It is possible to be in this school and not smoke but it would be hard to find friends and you would definitely be in the minority. Teachers are hit and miss. Some seem to care others are just not interested. Spruce Creek would be a better choice.

Seabreeze has a very nice campus and fantastic peripheral staff. It is clean and always feels safe. There are a few fantastic teachers. The administration is so cluttered down by menial tasks I am not sure they are able to do the job needed for the students. Generally I want to blame the county for most shortfalls but I have had limited support almost all around. So, it is a safe clean school with nice kids,limited social problems . Education is like all what your child makes it. Best of luck.
