Im extremely disappointed with the communication and overall experience weve had with this school.

For the past two years, I have sent emails to both the principal and front office regarding questions and concerns about my childs education, and I have not received a response to any of them. As a parent, it is incredibly frustrating to repeatedly reach out and receive no acknowledgment or follow-up.

My child is in the gifted program, yet he has consistently come home saying that he is bored and does not feel like he is learning anything. The gifted program groups students across different grade levels, which is not necessarily an issue on its own, but the program does not appear to provide the level of acceleration, differentiation, or academic challenge I would expect for gifted students.

My concern is not about asking for special treatment. I simply want my child to be appropriately challenged and to continue progressing academically. Parents should also be able to communicate with school leadership and receive a response when they have legitimate concerns about their child's education.

After two years of unanswered emails, I am very disappointed with the lack of communication and the apparent lack of urgency when it comes to addressing these concerns. There is significant room for improvement.

The teachers and staff provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere. My children both love going to school and are excited about learning! They have a wonderful community around them.

We have a child currently in 3rd grade at Hope-Hill and another who graduated last year and is now thriving in middle school. Both of our kids started at Hope-Hill in Pre-K, so weve had the chance to grow with the school through many changes.

One of the most rewarding parts has been watching the community come together around Hope-Hill. When we first joined, only a handful of families walked or biked to school. Now, there are so many kids commuting that wayit truly feels like a connected, vibrant neighborhood. Theres something special about knowing your neighbors and their children so well.

For parents considering a school, my biggest advice is simple: take a tour. Its the best way to get a real sense of the environment and whether it feels like the right fit for your family!

My daughter is in kindergarten at Hope-Hill and adores her school, her friends, and her teachers. Their staff is very responsive and hardworking, and dotes on our kids. They know their names, all of them, and know their schedules to make sure they are safe and where they are supposed to be. Principal Knight has shown great leadership and they are bringing language immersion to this school in the heart of Atlantas downtown. Device use is nominal but they are well trained to use them productively for reading, math games and more. Theyve even recently built a new playground.

We had questions before going here, but really love our community there now.

Our daughter is attending Kindergarten at Hope-Hill this year. We feel incredibly lucky this community school is in our neighborhood. Our child has been both challenged by teachers but also nurtured and built her confidence. She has a small class size (only 15 kids for 2 teachers!). The kids are split up by their ability level for phonics so they can grow and be challenged. The art and STEAM program is amazing. All the children worked on a mural with Paint Love that will be displayed outside the school. The music teacher plans both a winter holiday performance and a yearly musical. With the proximity to so many great parts of Old Fourth Ward the kids are able to go on walking field trips like the MLK center or the community garden by Krog street. Principal Knight is accessible and open to hearing feedback and always working to improve the school.

The best way to get a feel of the school is to go on a tour. You will see all the teachers know the kids names and are warm. The parents at drop off all know each other because it is a much smaller school compared to the other schools in the cluster. With the smaller grade sizes the kids have more opportunities to meet kids in other grades through STEAM activities, student government, the after school program and older kids reading to the younger kids.

Our family has had an excellent experience at Hope Hill. Our daughter thrives at Hope Hill and only took two weeks to fit into a new school. Our family has fully embraced the intimate community of families that attend the school. Many students and caregivers walk, bike, or e-bike to campus, reinforcing a strong sense of local presence, accessibility, and shared ownership of the school environment.
The teachers are excellent and really care about providing a quality education. They receive ongoing professional development in behavior management and trauma-informed practices. APS provides a wide range of services for students with learning differences, including specialized instruction, individualized education plans (IEPs), and access to trained professionals.
The small class sizes allow for more intimate instruction. The school separates students for reading and phonics at each grade level depending on their abilities so they can meet students where they are. Hope-Hill has among the strongest teacher to student ratios in the APS system, allowing for more individualized instruction, closer teacher-student relationships, and increased opportunities for observation, feedback, and differentiated learning.
The school has a growing STEAM curriculum and offers many field trips to all students, including end-of-the year STEAM trips to Savannah (2-3 days) for 5th grade students and Ruby Falls for 4th grade students. Younger student STEAM trips include community gardens and Wild Safari. Even Pre-K students take several field trips during the school year.
Beginning in 1st grade, students can test into the gifted program, which allows them to join other gifted students in their once per week. Our daughter cannot wait to attend Hope Hill on days when she's going to her gifted classroom. She jumps out of bed with excitement on those days!
The school is set to open a new playground in April 2026 and plans to begin a Dual Language program beginning with the 2027-2028 school year.

The biggest issue with this school is the staff. Many of them come across as unprofessional, inattentive, and lacking the patience you would expect when working with young children. Instead of being encouraging and supportive, some staff members are dismissive and even speak to students in a tone that feels inappropriate for an elementary setting.

Concerns brought to staff often feel brushed off rather than taken seriously. There doesnt seem to be much accountability, and communication with parents is minimal or unhelpful. It creates an environment where problems go unresolved and students dont get the support they need.

Overall, the staffs attitude and lack of engagement make it difficult to trust this school with a childs education and well-being. The staff welcomes you but their facial expressions says otherwise. I would not recommend.

My daughter has attended Hope Hill for the last three years (preK-1st). It is an excellent school and all of our teachers have excellent.
All of my questions to administration and staff are always answered promptly and given with more insight than I could have asked for.
I love the principle, Ms Wheeler, and I only wish them the best of luck as they continue bringing excellence to our community everyday and uplifting the kids.

I would never recommend this school to any parent! The staff do not communicate, they lost my child the first day of school. Since then there's been nothing but non stop confusion and them dropping the ball. My child was bullied and I reached out to all of the staff including the principal to help resolve the situation. I again got no response! My child was afraid to attend school each day. It seems as if no one cared about my child and school should be a safe place. PLEASE PLEASE DONT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE ! It's so disheartening to see people in education that have no real intention on actually caring about your child.

My child attended Pre-K here during COVID last year. The teachers worked so hard to make the virtual portion of the year a meaningful learning and social experience. She is now in Kindergarten and could not be happier. Her teacher is wonderful and loving. She is making major academic gains. The PTA at the school is working hard to involve all parents and to make this a true community school.

My daughter went to Pre-K at Hope Hill Elementary. We wanted to give the school a chance. To our surprise and delight, we have had such a great experience at the school. And our daughter is so happy and learning so much, I can't imagine sending her somewhere else for Kindergarten. We got into the charter school in the neighborhood and have decided that we are keeping her at Hope-Hill. The administration and teachers have been nothing but professional, engaging, energetic and they're always so present for the students. I see this every day, because I walk my daughter into school every morning. The principal and the same teachers are waiting outside to greet the students every single morning and it's been like that the entire year. When you send your kid to school, you want a great education, and you also want a school that feels like they care about each and every students success. In my experience, they do at Hope-Hill.

My son attended the public pre-K program at Hope Hill and is now in kindergarten. The teachers and administrative faculty are fantastic. They relate to the students so well, filling their days with love, respect and encouragement. I'm excited for our family to continue getting more involved in supporting the great efforts of the staff and volunteers there.

I love being involved at Hope-Hill! This is such a great place with such an amazing atmosphere. The teachers are wonderful, positive, strong leaders and role models. Expectations for student behavior and academic success are high and positively encouraged every day. Walking into Hope-Hill is the highlight of my day many times. The administration is involved with teachers, parents and students. It has a wonderful family feel and just an amazing warm feeling within the school walls!

Amazing school. Been here three years and have been pleased every year. The teachers are among the best I've ever had the privilege of interacting with. Principal is amazing leader and knows most of the families personally. Test scores may be lower than other neighboring school but a lot of that has to do with the transitioning homeless population. Students who remain at HHES excel at amazing rates. Parents are welcome in the door and it's a familial atmosphere; you can tell the teachers love being there.

Our daughter went to Pre-K at Hope-Hill and loved it! Her teacher was fun, enthusiastic, kind, and rigorous, and I believe all of her students left Pre-K highly prepared for Kindergarten. Ms. Wheeler is an exceptional principal, and she is turning Hope-Hill into a great choice for the whole neighborhood.

This is an excellent school. The principal and teachers are tireless. They greet all of the students every day with warmth and individual attention. While the general test scores are low - the school does serve many disadvantaged and low income families - the programs are able to provide for students of all levels. The school needs more socio-economic diversity and parental support (both of which are growing steadily.) Once that happens, Hope-Hill will be a solid school, providing support, education and a safe, encouraging place for all of it's students.

This is our first year at Hope-Hill and we have had a great experience. Our son's teacher and the principal has given him individual attention when needed and communicates with us frequently. Our son has a medical need and the school nurse has been amazing to work with too. The staff welcomes your involvement in the school, and by getting involved we have met several wonderful families in the neighborhood.

We enrolled our two girls into Hope Hill two years ago. It was the same year Ms Wheeler became the principal. We love Ms. Wheeler and Hope Hill so much! The school isn't what it used to be for sure, new staff, lots of volunteers and great new and old teachers!

Hope-Hill is a school that has had many transitions from teachers to principles and change can be hard. I started this school not knowing what to expect and it was a interesting change. I had read the reviews and heard the negative talks but I decided to give it a try anyway because it was blocks from my home. That was the best decision I could have made. I am not going to say it was perfect or is perfect but what I will say is that if you get involve with the education of your child they will meet you where you are at. My son's teachers were great!! The teachers listen, help, and supported me in what I needed to do to have a knowledgeable kid. The present principle Mrs. Wheeler has hit the ground running and is available if you need to talk. It is group effort to get a child through school and I am happy to be apart of a great group. We are going here again this year and again by choice.

My family moved to this neighborhood around 2 years ago, we are a block away to be zoned in Springdale Park elementary school. I just can't believe the schools this close to the heart of Atlanta is so segregated. Hope Hill elementary school is 95% African Americans & spanish but the neighboring Springdale park elementary school is mostly white. My son is mixed race. We love his kindergarten teachers and they just pull of what I believed the best graduation of all schools. They did a red-carpet style academy award ceremony for the students. It was a lots of work for the teachers and a great way to motivate students. I am so happy the significant improvements of the school. But from the bottom of my heart, Atlanta schools need to do better job to include all races & cultures in their student populations. We live in the 21st century now. Especially Hope Hill is right next to the Martin Luther King's Historic site, if the situation doesn't change, let it be the black school that has the best performance please. There are some parts of this area are poor but they deserve the same education & support. The APS need to give it a better support & staffs to turn it around !
