My child attended this school for Middle School. If you have a child with disabilities, this is not the school for you. The SSA does not work with parents to help your child improve and gain a quality education. Please consider a different school if your child has ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia or Dyspraxia. Your child will not get the proper support to help them. My child was so frustrated.

My child is highly gifted and could handle the academic pressure. However, I was not happy about the behavior/judgment from some of the other kids. They have a cool ski trip in 7th and the 8th graders go to Disney. Great music program and honors class offerings. The late 9:15 start time makes it hard for working parents to get kids to school at 8:15 for morning tutoring and clubs because they are not the usual "after school". It is WEIRD that there are NO school sports in Cobb County for MS!?! They have fields out front that are used for rec programs. I wish this would change as the more involved students are with academic clubs and sports (we do both), they happier they typically are at school...

6th/7th math honors teachers did not challenge enough. When I asked the 6th grade teacher why my child had a 99% in her class, I was told she "had to teach to the standard". This is a consistent problem with gifted students in school systems. It definitely improved by 8th grade.

Dodgen is a HIGHLY affluent school. Some of the kids are very privileged, very judgmental when it comes to clothes, etc. Some of the academic competitiveness is brutal - I am NOT going to sugar coat it. Our new school in a different state has scores as high as Dodgen but a lot less pressure from a social standpoint. If you want a "friendlier" social environment, Hightower Trail MS or even Dickerson is what you are looking for.

See earlier comments. Some of the kids are brutally judgmental and competitive when it comes to affluence/clothes and academics. When I reached out to teacher about things said in the classroom, they were somewhat helpful.

No leadership skills! The "leadership" are sheep to the county administrators, who are very ineffective. They will not allow parents to review public records.

No, the school does not effectively support students with learning differences. The school assumes that all children learn the same. Their goal is to create Stepford-East Cobb children that are all carbon copies of one another.

Too much homework! Homework does not effectively teach students. Interactive experiences are a much better teaching tool. Dodgen lacks interactivity.

Incredibly high academic standards and workload if your child is in advanced courses. This is great prep for high school, but unrealistic at this age if you expect them to have some free time or play in sports

in general students excel here, so the general approach is top notch; however if there are serious learning disabilities like dyslexia, we've seen this typically addressed by going to other middle schools that specialize in these disorders

This school has compelled me in a positive direction. The school can sometimes give a large sum of homework, but that is all part of growing up. The teachers strive for their students to become the best and reach for their full abilities.

My son is learning responsibility at this school. He is struggling but still he is learning.
I would like to say that I wish these posts required a Screen Name. The reason is that I note a number of very low ratings for the school and I believe they are all from the same unhappy parent who feels compelled to vent over and over. If a Screen Name was required I could be sure this was the case and that there were not several parents who were complaining.
My son likes the school very much and is very excited about having male teachers. He enjoys the band and all of the opportunities he finds there. He is in the advanced placement which he is proud of and is working hard to keep up with the other advanced placement students which I feel is good.

Teachers, counselors, front office admin, custodians are very generous, encouraging, and caring! My son enjoys school so much everyday, he even say he does not like weekend or holidays because he can't go to school. I saw some negative comments left though my son have never experienced such a thing at school. One thing I can tell is that school is the place to study for sure. Teachers are making tremendous efforts to push the kids up for their academic success - if the parents does not want to help their straggling kids at home, I do not think East Cobb is not for them. If the parents does not want their kids to study hard, they'll never satisfied with any schools, because school is the place to study!

Bad. There are no words to describe how bad this school is. Their great test scores are the result of pushing out children who are less than great. Is your kid perfect? Go here. Is your kid less than perfect? They won't be here long.

I went to Dodgen and it was a great experience. I have been seeing a lot of comments about kids being bullied or the teachers having favorites and I havent had any of those experiences and I am not what you would call a popular kid. The education is great plus we have a lot of fun days where you get to dress up and we have Olympics; which is a continuous field day. I enjoyed my three years at Dodgen.

To many problems to detail in this review and too little time to do it. The last two reviews I left were removed so you'll understand why I'm not going to out much effort into this one. Suffice it to say, the problems are so severe that we are homeschooling our child now because of this abomination of a school. They play favorites, the teachers are classroom managers, not educators, the biggest bullies in the school are the administrators and faculty. Complaints to the school board are dismissed as "unfounded" and are accompanied by thinly veiled threats of litigation hoping that the families will be too ignorant or otherwise unwilling to pursue legal action. Keep your eyes on the news and newspapers in the last 1/2 of 2014 for stories about the things I can't write here if I want this review to stay on "Great Schools".

Dodgen prides itself in its anti-bullying policies. However, I was horrendously bullied all three years there, and it got worse with each year. I am now in the tenth grade at a high school that I chose to attend not only for the program offered, but because it was so far away and I felt unwelcome in my own home. Students from Dodgen found where I lived and even after school let out at the end of eighth grade they would come to my house and wait for me to come out so that they could harass me. Any time I made an attempt to tell a teacher, I was laughed at. The teachers and staff favor the "popular" kids who were harassing me and refuses to help me because of it. I now suffer from depression and social anxiety, largely triggered by my experience at Dodgen. Thanks for your "no bully policy", Dodgen.

We moved specifically to go to Dodgen. After touring all the local schools and talking to lots of parents, Dodgen had the best reputation for high level of education and a nice place to be. It has totally lived up to our expectations. Our son had a great year and says he loves it! The band program is amazing and his teachers were all helpful and responsive. He has had great grades and test scores.
