I do not recommend at all. Some of the substitutes favorite only girls, I got in trouble multiple times for something a girl did! A lot of the kids there are not nice at all. They actually need to be dealt with. The food... the food is just usually dry as hell, and has no taste at all. Some are under cooked. The only good food there is the pizza fun lunch. And that's it. Thank god I bring lunchboxes now. School was only fun in 5k like 6 years ago.

If you have to check the student out early, allow plenty of time because the process is very slow. The principal is hard to get along with. She cares only about rules and not about the students or parents. Students are not progressing well, and I fear they will be far behind when entering high school. Some teachers are great but no attempt is made to remove the bad teachers. Car pool is torture.

All of my children have attended Cherokee Charter Academy and we are very happy with the education they have received. My older children who have attended have been extremely prepared for high school and both are testing and taking higher classes than the average student.

This is our 2nd year at CCA. As a publicly funded charter school, I knew it wasnt going to be the same expectations as a private school. However, the school has provided an overwhelmingly better experience for our children than we had in our local public education. Smaller classrooms sizes, direct communication with teachers and staff, and immediate resolution to parental concerns by staff and faculty are just a few of the major differences that have created a an overwhelmingly better experience for our family. In addition, one of our children has an IEP which was rarely Accommodated to our satisfaction by our public schools, and I often felt that staff had made his education far more difficult. I worried that transferring to CCA would mean that his IEP would not be supported for lack of resources; however I could not have been more wrong. CCA has done a fantastic job working with my son and he is finally integrated into a general population classroom with confidence. My children feel safe, are making friends, and excited to be involved in after school activities. I highly recommend this school for children of all varying Educational development!

Were very happy with the school overall. There is room for improvement in certain areas, but thats every school. Teaching styles, curriculum, staff, student engagement & events are some of the things were happy with.

The school principal is afraid of confrontation and avoids making decisions on issues that are, or appear to be, controversial. Ineffective teachers are tolerated, and no action is taken to remove them. The school principal does not visit classrooms and does not provided constructive feedback to teachers.

My daughter was bullyied from day one in first grade. She reported this to her teacher several times who did not take it serious. It wasn't taken serious until I escalated it and they tried to penalize her instead of addressing the problem.

Poor. The school puts a lot of pressure on the parents to donate money and time but they do not put as much effort in education or protecting the kids. We have invested almost $2000 in the school in two months but received no help in dealing with issues. The teacher implied that the issue was caused by my child I would not recommend this school.

I escalated the bullying problem to the assistant principal and principal. It took several times to get any involvement and they were only willing to meet via teleconference. They interviewed my daughter (without me) even though I specifically told them that I wanted to be there for the conversation. They have yet to provide any feedback (1 month) or any real resolution other than moving my daughter to a different table. They have told her that she should continue to notify the teacher instead of protecting herself which is unacceptable since they aren't willing to do anything about the problem.

Middle school specifically, they are not quality educators. They are selfish and act as if there is a requirement to like a student in order for them to do their job. Their personal biases adversely affect the students learning.

The principal, vice principal and majority of the middle school teachers are cowards. Leadership is not their strong suit, more they prefer to be disciplinarians as opposed to actually leading, educating, and inspiring students to do better, be better, and foster a desire to excel.

The students are great, as well as the receptionist. The administration and specifically the middle school teachers (mostly) are trash. There is no accountability within the faculty, however, always a bias toward the student body. Further, their personal feelings often influence their responses instead of responding maturely, as actual adults and within the confines of the school procedures. Take a look at the formal complaints filed on this school to the GA Dept of Education....I have.

There is no open communication with the parents at the school. The administration lies to the parents that take place here. They had a child make a threat about being an active shooter and the parents were not notified about the incident until it made the news. I am aware incidents like this happen worldwide but open communication between administration and the parents must be in effect to be successful.

My Children have EXCELLED in this school. My youngest has been in the school since it started. She has been in it since kindergarten. I can say nothing but good things about ALL the teachers they have. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the high school comes back.

My son attended this school for years from grade 5-8. Please do not send your children here for middle school. They are lax, and coddle the kids here. They are given multiple attempts to retake tests and there is no accountability in turning in late work. Students do learn, but it fosters a culture of laziness. When they hit local high school they are unprepared for the honors and AP classes and the accountability that goes with it. The Spanish and Algebra have been poorly taught at thus school. Stay away from this school if you want your kid to be prepared for real life high school.

I have had two kids at CCA since the beginning and we have been extremely happy every year. Next year I will have 3 kids there in 7th, 4th and K. We have not at a bad teacher. In fact, every teacher we have encountered at this school is genuine and amazing. I'm especially happy about how great the middle school teachers are. I really feel included in the process of my kids' education. The Dean of Students, Ms. Wallis, has helped each of my kids through any issues they have had. Ms. Patterson, the guidance counselor, is very sweet and helpful also. My kids have excelled here because of the amazing teachers, helpful administrators, small class sizes, differentiation, parent involvement, awesome PTC and a staff that truly care. I have had minor issues throughout our time here but they have been handled appropriately each time. I would definitely recommend CCA to anyone, but it just depends on what works best for your family. For mine, it is a great fit and we plan on staying!

If I were to rate the faculty alone, I'd rate a 5. There is a very involved group of parents who excel at fundraising for the school's needs and planning wonderful events and activities. The administration at CCA is very weak--rather than answer basic questions, the principal refers inquiries to the management company in FL. I called to complain today about a situation with long term substitutes and was transferred to a voice mailbox that is full. There will continue to be a high turnover rate with teachers, students & parents until this is resolved. There are so many pros to CCA but do your research before you apply for a spot.

Great attitudes and constant support is offered to the students. Parents can easily communicate with teachers and teachers communicate in a timely manner. Very happy --in so many ways with the school. We give the school an A++++

I think it is unfair for people to rate CCA according the the first and second week regarding pick up of your child. Many new parents unfamiliar with how the process operates -takes time. This is no small task-organizing over 1000 students into their cars (no bus service is available and is known to all parents who chose to send their child to this school) safely. I give the school 100% for their continued effort. If you don't like having to wait- take your child out and let them attend a different school. Fabulous school- wonderful staff- Parent participation is required- but I think all the parents enjoy helping out and being a part of this wonderful school. I for one am very proud of CCA, and we are happy to be associated with it!!! CCA ROCKS!!

We like this school except for the pickup/drop off system is a complete mess. It takes an hour of sitting idle inching along just to pick up my child. I seriously cannot fathom having to do this everyday. Either get a better system or offer a school bus system which parents will gladly pay for just avoid the headache mess at pickup.

My wife and I both love this school! The teacher to student ratio is excellent. We have two kids attending, one class is 18-1 the other is 20-1. The public school we would be going to has ratios in the high 20's and even mid 30's. The teachers are fantastic. The parent involvement is high, and a requirement. No buses. If you are the type of parent that wants to just throw your kid on the bus and have nothing to do with your child's education then I would tell you to not even consider Cherokee Charter. You will be disappointed in the amount of effort you must put in from volunteering to carpool. We love it and love the culture the school creates. It also costs a little more due to the uniforms, again something we like.

Same curriculum used in GA schools. The library is uninspiring. CCA will have so many students next school year even without the high school kids, there will be no more library, all the books will be divided between the classrooms. The cafeteria serves vending food. Have attended 3 yrs, I regret not putting my child in our zoned school for 9th grade. She loves her 9th grade teachers, but the control of student behavior in classrooms is unacceptable & interferes with those who are there to learn. Same students disrupt each class every day! Administrative staff won't help, teachers hands are tied. When told there will be no high school, after being lead on for over a year, I'm done with this school. They wanted to make sure they had the "head count" for $$. If you want to be part of the parents helping out, they want your help, but you won't be accepted into their click - which is most likely for the best. But, I have met some very nice people, talented folks, and so many jump in to help those in need. My daughter has made life long friends, even though they will be in different high schools next year. Sad that this school couldn't grow more and be top notch in education.

My daughter has been at CCA since kindergarten and is currently almost finished with 1st grade. We have no prior elementary experience to compare with but we have loved CCA. My daughter has loved all of her teachers. I like that the kids start spanish in kindergarten. I like the differentiation- they help kids that are struggling catch up and challenge kids that are excelling. The cafeteria food is disappointing at times because they do not have a kitchen- the food is contracted out and delivered daily. However, my daughter likes buying lunch. There are alot of school activities throughout the year and the parent volunteer time gives opportunities to get to know the teachers and other students.

We didn t expect much but CCA is not the school they say it is. We got sold during orientation and now we are going back. It is a typical warehouse school where they stick more students than they can actually handle and they know understand the principle of teaching and learning. I want the school to challenge my kids but instead, they prefer to hand out A s and B s by allowing students to retake the test! Your kids might bring home A s and B s but once they are out of CCA, they will have to everything all over again. I m taking my kids out of CCA. There are some good teachers though and without naming them, thank you for caring!

They don't even have a real kitchen, just a big microwave. The lunch is horrible and obviously not nutritious at all! My son was here opening year and liked it., he doesn't like it at all now (his third year) luckily he will no longer go there next year. The staff treats everyone like babies. They mostly do busy work. There is tons of drama between the teachers and parents. Not to mention they practically brainwash you with lies! Overall it is not good. Most of the kids wouldn't fit in at a normal school. That is a big problem with my son who doesn't like most of the people due to the fact that they are socially awkward or disruptive. I would definitely not recommend this school and strongly suggest that you don't send your children here. It seems all fine and dandy at first and most people even like it at first but once you actually look around and figure it all out it's not so great!

Would love to know the private school your child came from. As far as the "standardized" test goes...their are other factors to decide from such as proof of what your child has already taken and how well they have performed. All private schools give national testing and report cards too. National testing, proof of text, subject material are much more than CRCT.

I am very disappointed in this school. My child also came from a private school that was much more advanced than CCA and without the "standardized" tests it doesn't matter how your child has performed in the past. My child has wasted a whole year at this school. I find the principal this year to be subpar and do not believe he is there to help the children succeed. I believe he is a "crack the whip" type of principal and does not listen well or help resolve issues. The honors - or "Cambridge" students are obviously treated better and don't even always have to follow the same rules as the "regular" kids. Most of the classes for the "Cambridge" students are not much more advanced than the regular classes, (and not above the school we came from for all the kids) they are in my observation and experience just treated as better. This is a glorified public school and just because it is a Charter school it is certainely not better than most or any public schools. Cautionary: My child was dumbed down, there are huge double standards, and the circulum is not challenging for the general student body.

My child attends Cherokee Charter Academy and we have been there since the beginning. We love our school and love that parents are involved in every aspect of the school. I have read a lot of these posts and yes we do have kids that have ADHD and other problems at our school , as do other schools, but to say that our children do not want to learn is just horribly wrong. They thrive, and love learning. I see my child happy every day to be in school and going to school. I see her vocabulary expanding as well as her knowledge in Match, Science and Social Studies. The teachers amaze me at CCA. They deal with a lot at our school because every parent is involved there with their child learning and willing to help in furthering their education in any way. You have to want to be there because we do not have buses and so must carpool. Its a commitment for the student and the parents. We love CCA!

We had a good experience at CCA but realized as the year progressed that the school is mainly comprised of children that don't fit in to the public school. Many kids at CCA have ADHD, behavior issues, social issues, appearance insecurities and or learning difficulties. The smaller class sizes are great but don't matter much when the classes are comprised of mostly children who don't appear to really want to learn. Kids who would never be accepted into advanced classes in any traditional school are in the CCA advance classes because there are so few kids making competition to get in very easy. This makes the teaching of those classes dumbed down. (Including "Cambridge" classes) Kids do well on the CRCT because the classes are taught directly to the test. Class tests can be retaken so that the students grades are not true representation of what they have been taught and tested on. The teachers are sweet but not the inspiring educators with a passion we were hoping for. High turnover rate of teachers/ staff. If your child struggles socially this may be a good fit. Sadly the academics far below traditional schools. May be different lower grades our child middle school

I love my daughter's school. There is little doubt that CCA's opening is what spurred the rest of the county's school system to step up and take more on. As soon as it opened, Cherokee County School District created CCSD Charters. One thing that makes this school stand out is what is offered: we have Mandarin Chinese as an after-school class, Spanish as part of the curriculum, and flex time dedicated to helping students to work on their weaknesses integrated into the school day. The school is going into it's third year of existence so it's still new -- still an experiment, somewhat -- and yet, I'm already thrilled! One of the most exciting things is the Cambridge Program. If my child is accepted into the C P, she comes out of high school ready to go into her Junior year of college!

This school is everything the other schools are not. Detractors are those who don't even attend. This school has been so great for so many families with kids struggling in other schools. Here they are taught not handled. SPED kids get educated not drugged and babysat. Is it perfect? No, but it is far better than any alternative that is believable. Dont let the distraction fool you, many with negative feed back never came to the school, or no school can baby sit their child like they want.

This is our first year at CCA and I truly beleive it is a wonderful school. Teachers do really care about our children. They spend time researching new ways to make them love learning. Parents can be very involved in the school if they like to as CCA asks families to volunteer inside the school. My son who never liked school runs to his class every morning. My daughter enjoys so much school that she talks about it to everybody. Carpool is a little time consuming but it's because the funding doesn't provide buses. If I had a bigger car I would carpool with other families. I wish the school would have a highschool and a football team. But this is such a new establishment that it might not be ready for all that yet. Do not hesitate to send your children to CCA.

This is a wonderful school and naturally doesn't fit everyone's needs. Since the school is not locally funded to accommodate students with special needs, Cherokee Charter Academy ay not be the right fit for certain students.. The middle school has a wonderful Cambridge Academy Advanced Program that is challenging to students in the 6-8th grade. It is refreshing to know that teachers are paid for performance. This is an option that the other public schools in the area do not have. The reason that this school is great is because the parents and students want to be there. The fact that there are currently no buses has been challenging,but I have found that parents are willing to do what is necessary to transport their children to school.

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE. Lots of empty promises along with smoke and mirror routines of what the parents should expect academically. One of the many problems I have is the school's severe resources and the fact that teachers do not have autonomy or support in their classrooms or with the curriculum. The "challenging" curriculum is nothing extraordinary. In fact they can't even offer half of what a regular school can give you. There is also an immense amount of drama that is kept hush hush between the staff, faculty, and parents. In the end students suffer because everything is swept under the rug. I have watched this school pretend to be better than the others, but it s more of a publicity stunt and they are using your tax dollars. You also have to be very careful when you attend one of their meetings. They are excellent at selling their school concept to newcomers or those who don t know any better with their tour and it is almost like watching an exorcism of people being brainwashed. Contract renewal for teachers is based on performance, not on years of service and education level. IT IS NOT TRUE, and is part of the sell. Truths go through 3 stages and denial is the first.

It seems that a parent just wants to spread an untruthful picture about the CRCT results from Cherokee Charter Academy. Yes there were some lower than expected scores from the CRCTs, but for the majority of the school they were very good. Keep in mind, also, that this was our first year as a school... our baseline started this year. My child has been with the school since day one, has absolutely improved his performance in school and is thriving in a way he did not at his county appointed school. No, this school is not for everyone (as no school is perfect for all children) but this school serves a purpose for so many, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for another school choice.

Cherokee Charter is a public school of choice. It will be the right environment for some children and not right for others. Parental involvement is encouraged and helps to keep the per student cost down. Parents are part of a Co-Op and not forced to join a political action committee or PTA. Teachers are recruited nation wide the state and are reviewed throughout the year. Contract renewal for teachers is based on performance, not on years of service and education level. To find out more, all you have to do is ask for a tour and to meet the administration. The choice is clear and this school is THE future!

My third and youngest child is attending middle school at CCA. This has been by far the the best middle school experience of all of them. . I appreciate the personal learning plan they have for each child. They find your childs strengths and work from there. The teachers were outstanding. This school offers challenging academic programs like Cambridge. Every child has different needs and I am so thankful that we had the CHOICE to go to CCA. It has not only met my expectations but exceeded them. We did win the lottery when we were accepted to CCA.

I now have three children at CCA. My older daughters both excelled last school year. The teachers are innovative and encourage "out of the box" thought. Every school has growing pains their first year and this school was no exception. However, my daughters thrived and my oldest is accepted into the Cambridge Advanced Studies Program next year and she will have so many new opportunities this year. This school is the best fit for my kids. School Choice is imperative and I am so thankful to have been able to choose this school.

After 1 year at CCA we are thrilled to be a part of this school. My daughters did not have good experiences at their previous public school. My gifted daughter was-no joke- used as a babysitter in her 2nd grade classroom and was left unsupervised for 45 minutes while the teacher was on her laptop on facebook in the teacher's lounge. We witnessed it ourselves first hand. My daughter's time was being wasted in the public school. She was bored, and was waved away, and told to go read or draw when she completed work early. Now at CCA, her time is not being wasted, she is thriving, and she is not being taken advantage of. Her teachers CARE about her success, make the effort to challenge her, and we can definitely see the difference. She is always so excited to go to school in the morning. CCA has been a tremendous blessing to us!

This school was started out of a desire for parents to have a choice regarding their child's education. Our child was also there when the school first opened, and we were very hopeful and excited at having differentiated instruction and more parental involvement. However, it became clear after the first month that they didn't really want parental involvement at that time, and there was no differentiation. Most of the classwork was worksheets, and not very challenging ones at that. I realize there was a lot of pressure to get CCA up and running in a VERY short amount of time, but I have to question why so many out of state teachers were hired? It's true that there were some "layoffs" and subsequent staff "reshuffling". I accepted that the first few months were going to be a huge adjustment. I just had no idea that the work would be so elementary and worksheet heavy. Also the one and only time I spoke with the Principal, she was already starting to focus on the spring's CRCTs. I thought that by touting creativity and differentiation it would make the school less focused on standardized testing. I hope they can turn it around as some of our good friends' kids are still there

I encountered a couple of parents like that whenever I raised questions about the school. I have heard great thing academically about this school and that was my primary reason for enrolling my child...

My school began middle school in Cherokee County public schools. What happened there astonished me. She had always had a great love and excitement for learning and is a gifted child. When she got to middle school she was enrolled in "advanced" classes in all subjects. There was NOTHING advanced about her classes and some of her teachers were not "highly qualified" to teach gifted students as they didn't even have degrees in the subject area (social studies). When my daughter finished her work and asked for enrichment, she was told to just go back to her seat and read. When she began to get in trouble for reading, she shut down completely. Tears were the norm every morning and she voiced her hate for school. CCA has been a blessing to our family. My daughter thrives in her "gifted" classes and has minted straight As in all subjects. She loves chorus and was a cheerleader. She competed with the technology team. Most of all, there are no more tears in the morning and her zeal for learning has returned! I am one happy parent!!!!

I have a child at Charter and we are in love! Concerning the saftey of the school you are going to have issues like that at every school. Wish I didn't have to say it but it is true. My ex, who never ever went to the school and is a big man, went one morning at my request. He walked into the school, this was in morning before school, my 1st grade daugher who looks nothing like her dad, walked him to the class. He was standing in the middle of class when her teach walked in saw him and said hello and left! He was upset! She had never met him and didn't ask who he was and what he was doing there and with my daughter! CCA class doors are locked, no one in! You have to have badge to get in class! Students have bathrooms in class so no need to let them out to go unsupervised. When they leave class it is with teacher going somewhere o/w in class with locked door! My 2nd grade daugher is safe! One way in, front door, everything else is gated and locked during school hours. Very safe!

I can not say enough great things about this school. My first grader went to Knox elementary which was a very good school but pegged her at Kindergarten as a "B" student. She has excelled this year at CCA and has been accepted into the gifted program. CCA's focus is on education and that's it - no politics. And I LOVE the fact that with their STRIVE program the students are being educated in excellent moral character as well. So thankful that the Cherokee Co. School Board (Dr. P.) did NOT get their way and CCA opened!

My son is in kindergarten at CCA. I couldn't be happier with his education. The staff and administration have gone above and beyond to make every family feel welcome and part of the school. The parental involvement is key to this school success. What I really love about Charter Schools in general is that we (the parents) are the customers. If we are not happy, the school bends over backwards to rectify all issues. With the education, I am thrilled with the Personalized Lesson Plans each and every student receives.. This way every parent knows exactly where their child stands and can keep on top of any concerns they may have. This school is not just a building to educate children, but a community that is invested in the success of every student that walks through their doors.
