Ashford Park Elementary has been an exceptional experience for our family. From the moment we joined the community, it was clear that this school stands out (not just academically, but in the strength of its parent and community engagement).

The level of involvement from families is truly impressive. Whether its volunteering, school events, or supporting teachers and staff, theres a genuine sense that everyone is invested in the success of the students. That kind of environment creates a positive, energetic culture that you can feel the minute you walk in.

One of the most unique and valuable aspects of Ashford Park is the German immersion program. Its an incredible opportunity for students to develop language skills at an early age while also gaining exposure to different cultures and ways of thinking. The teachers do a fantastic job integrating language learning into everyday instruction, making it both effective and engaging for the kids.

Overall, Ashford Park Elementary has provided a well-rounded, high-quality educational experience for our daughter. We couldnt be happier and would highly recommend it to any family considering the school.

Ashford Park is such a wonderful, nurturing, inclusive, and academically hands on school. The teacher retention rate is one of the highest in DeKalb County, and it is no surprise, because this school has such a wonderful community feel. The school uses a phonics based curriculum for early readers and Eureka Math for math. The Foundation / PTO is extremely strong, as is parent engagement in general. This school is such a gem. Learning is fun at Ashford Park and students receive German instruction (including a German Immersion program), art, music, PE and STEM. The school also offers many after school programs like Run Club, STEM club, chorus, band, orchestra, art club, garden club, after school care, and more. High quality and affordable summer day camps are also offered.

We have loved Ashford Park. It is a great neighborhood school. We have had a child on the non-German immersion track and one on the German track. Both have had excellent experiences and amazing teachers.

Ashford Park is a great school with excellent teachers! This is my childs 2nd year here and I can say that they are doing a great job navigating virtually. I have worked at several Dekalb county schools as a teacher and can say that Ashford Park is going above and beyond. You will always have some parents who do not get along with teachers or admin IN EVERY SCHOOL and those are the ones writing bad reviews but the school as a whole is phenomenal!

We moved to this school district based on its 2018 rating. However, after my child started Kindergarten, it was very apparent to us that this school was nowhere near a 9/10 as it was rated. The first red flag was that my child was given a teacher who has only ever taught special arts classes and at last minute, was forced to teach primary studies. This is at an age and grade that are so essential to their learning. I can completely understand that students' progress have been stunted and they are not growing at a level compared to other schools.

The teacher was extremely unorganized, and completely out of touch with the students. For my child to start bringing books to "read" alone in kindergarten when done with classwork, says everything. For my child to finally tell me they cried (more than once) when they didn't understand directions, but when I asked the teacher and they had no idea, says everything. Instead, the teacher defaulted to what they were comfortable with - many special arts class activities instead of fundamental learning.

I initially assumed we came from an incredible Pre-K and maybe this was normal "school." However, after my second child entered into Ashford Park in Pre-K, this solidified our initial concerns. I originally thought it was a "one off" and the experience with my first child wasn't a systemic problem. I was and am very wrong. There is a lack of dedication and well prepared teachers at this school. The principal is a problem. The front of the school has been extremely helpful and responsive, which is very nice. My children have had great specials' teachers. However, the new ranking is a reflection of the minimum standard of leadership at this school and lack of well prepared and dedicated teachers. The leadership at this school doesn't set teachers, and ultimately, students up for success. Based on actual experience, the principal's teacher selection is very questionable. The lack of progress in our students will continue to exist until there has been an overhaul in leadership and certain minimum standards are set for teachers at this school. The school's current focus is not based on the overall benefit for the students. They are focused on other non-related issues that do not benefit our students' long-term.

My child was not taught by her teacher. The children were taught by videos lessons, even before Covid19. The classroom was always dark, with the only light being from a screen and the few windows that were not covered.

The school is "rated" highly but in real life I would rather quit my job and home school than send my child back there. The education experience is highly lacking with the only focus being on testing an how things "look".

Kids are bullied here consistently. My kids have learned awful slurs from classmates that I was nowhere ready to hear them say. These kids act entitled. Bratty. They are completely undisciplined.

The leadership here is a joke. The principal last year was terrible, and the asst. became the principal this year and is even worse. They are disorganized, refuse to handle situations, their hiring process is a joke, how about that playground, the kids didn't even have hot food the first week of school.

God forbid your child need extra help. They are going to brush over them and give them awful grades. Pressure them to try harder until they have crippling anxiety. The MAP testing weeks are the worst.

The principal refuses to handle bullying situations, so if your child gets bullied and you want it taken care of. Good luck with that. Kids are awful here. Very entitled and want to say and do whatever they please. The school lets them get away with it.

If I didn't have to send my kids to school here, believe me I wouldn't. They are completely disorganized. This school is supposed to be the "cream of the crop", always posting their accomplishments. Try going in there on a testing day, they tell at the kids in the cafeteria like they are in a prison. They teach to test because they need to keep their test scores high so they can keep their reputation up. The principal is a joke. Past and present. The secretary is awful. She does the bare minimum to get through the day. There are a few teachers here that care. Extra curricular teachers are the best. The counselor is a complete joke as well. Don't send your kid to her. She acts pleasant but if you have a real problem she will brush you off. That's what the whole school does. If you can't smile and look pretty, come to school dressed to the nines, act like a perfect parent, and don't forget to donate all of your paychecks to the Ashford Park foundation, or else you are worthless.

Some teachers are better than others with how they assign homework. One first grade teacher gives barely anything whereas another gives a lot. Two worksheets a day, every day are a lot for second graders. In addition to reading for thirty minutes.

My son is finishing kindergarten and we had a great experience at Ashford Park. Wonderful and caring teachers who work with students who are at a variety of levels doing whatever they can to help them succeed. I like that the school isn't overly intense about academics but seeks to nurture the whole person to instill kindness, respect and confidence in each child. Large class sizes but that's the nature of public school.

For me to spend an hour with a kindergartener every night on homework is ridiculous. Would have more time to practice reading if there wasn't such a ridiculous amount of homework. Especially for the age.

Horrible. I do not feel safe leaving my child there. There are over 20 kids in her class. That is way to many for kindergarten. To teach or just to watch. She has been sent home with a couple of severe injuries and no teacher has spoken with me about her injuries. In one case, the teacher never noticed my child crying after it happen and she was hurt so badly, she was unable to walk to tell the teacher. Did I mention, over 20 kids is too many to watch effectively?

We are thrilled with our school--we feel we hit the jackpot. Fantastic education with a small, community feel. Don't let the GreatSchools number fool you...the most recent data will surely bump it up. It was one of only eight schools in DeKalb with 80 percent or more students scoring in the highest achievement levels in one or more content areas on the Spring 2017 GA Milestones.

Ashford Park is mediocre overall. I greatly appreciate the German immersion program but it can be disorganized and lack resources due to its "newness" . The teachers are largely helpful but occasionally you will get attitude or no responses (apparently teachers have 48 hours to respond to an inquiry due to school / union rules). School facilities are below average and DeKalb County simply does not care about the residents of the City of Brookhaven - it has other priorities apparently.

We are new to AP and it has exceeded our highest expectations. The school administration and teachers are proactive and engaged with parents to allow each child to get the best learning experience. Academically, the AP curriculum was ahead of the private school we left, and there are a lot of opportunities for a child to find whatever fits their learning needs and style- such as Odyssey of the Mind, STEM, and G&T. Even with the many great achievements by the school, the principal challenges herself and the school to see where they can do better for all children in the school. The parents are equally amazing- very involved in the school and supportive to each other.

I am quite surprised by the Great Schools rating. I have two children in this school and could not be happier. They both participate in the German immersion program. The teachers and parents involved in this school are amazing. The school gets better and better each year. Please don't pay attention to these Great school ratings. We have two children at this school and have been very pleased. There is a real sense of community and school pride. I can't imagine a school with more parental involvement. The teachers truly care about the children. An added bonus is the opportunity for our kids to learn a second language in a dual immersion classroom. I never imagined my two children would be speaking German to each other, but after just one year in they are already able to converse. There is a lot of research showing that learning a second language as a child has tremendous life long benefits. I wouldn't allow this GS rating to scare you away. This is a great little neighborhood school with an incredible staff and amazing student body!

I have 2 children at Ashford Park and I have been pleased with the level of rigor in the classroom and the expertise of the teachers. The teachers and administration are very warm and supportive. Great parent support. I love the small, community school feel.

The administration team is not helpful and at times just out rude. You walk into the school and it smells like sewage. The principal pushed the teachers to teach to a test and not the child. I would not recommend this school or district.

Our 3 children have been attending Ashford Park Elementary for the past 7 years. We can say without a doubt, it has been a great choice for our family. The administration, teachers and staff work together for the good of all the students. The PTA involvement continues to grow every year. The after school program is wonderful! This little school is a jewel among many bigger/fancier public & private schools in the area, if you live in the area and go elsewhere--you are missing out BIG time!

What really makes the school impressive is the level of parental involvement and support which only continues to improve as more and more people move into the surrounding n'hoods. It is one of the best neighborhood/parent supported schools, in my opinion, in all of DeKalb County.

My child has been in the inaugural German Immersion program at Ashford Park, and I have to say, Das ist Ausgezeichnet! What an amazing opportunity, and a fun family adventure. We have just transferred to this school from the Cobb County School District (East Cobb). I have to say that I have been very happy with this school. I have a 2nd grader and he is doing better academically than ever. His teacher and the entire administration has been wonderful to work with. I feel that they truly care about each and every child and embrace their differences. I am very happy with the community and APS.

My school is Ashford Park Elementary. I have had a child there for five years. She was screened in kindergarten and put in the gifted program, which is one of the best I have ever seen. I love that the kids get to go on field trips, we, as parents are hooked up online with the teachers and can communicate easily. Ashford Park School has a large and very active PTA community, with great support from local businesses as well. The volunteer spirit is strong and the grounds are almost exclusively cared for by parent volunteers. We have done many beautification projects so that it is a pleasure just to drive by the school. There are lots of great after school programs encouraging science, athletics, chess and others. The school is so popular that many parents have moved into the area, filling the school to capacity. I think the only improvement we might need is a bigger facility!

It truly is an amazing school that has a strong foundation that is built upon a caring and compassionate Administration, hard working teachers who go above and beyond and last but not least very involved parents. The partnership that now exists between the Administration, teachers and parents is immeasurable.
