This institution was run like a prison. There was no attempt to help children grow as people, it simply wanted to keep everyone in line. The lack of emphasis on academic excellence was never more obvious than when the yearbook was published there was absolutely no acknowledgement of the kids who excelled in the classroom. Even the band, a definite draw to the O'Fallon school system was in shambles during our tenure at Carriel. My child had an awful experience at this school. I would move before sending another child to this school.

this school has zero compassion for its students im currently a student here and the administration has literally no faith in its students they are mean to everyone except when they need something from you,and automatically assume the worst in students and will regularly acuuse students for things they didnt do just to put a name to it. do not allow your child to attend this school

The social workers do nothing about students issues. There is lots of favoritism going on between social workers and students. If you want your child to see someone these workers are not the solution. Teachers do not do much about bullying and social emotional issues. The curriculum is lacking. Its either over explained or under explained. The work is never clear. Recently the food has been running out for the last lunch period. Many of the safety drills are treated as jokes and not taken seriously enough. The rules are always being arbitrarily placed and/or changed. School work is often too much for the majority of children with outside of school extracurriculars. The electives are very nice and well taught. Its just very underfunded. Some extracurriculars are nicely set up but yet the teachers are not paid for their time and the school doesnt directly fund them. They dont do much about the bus riders being late to school or late home. Many buses smell like weed and the drivers are yelling at students the majority of time. The overall behavior is horrible. The teachers are lacking in taking action and let the students figure it out themselves. Overall if you had another option Id say take it. You may make friends but most of the time it leads to fights and drama.

Both my children attended Carriel, and I was involved with the PTO and worked as a substitute teacher in multiple classrooms for many years. My children had a positive experience at Carriel, and they genuinely enjoyed their teachers. The pandemic and restrictions it imposed upon education was hard for both students and teachers, but Im amazed at the creative ways that Carriel teachers tried to engage with their students and continue to connect in a post-pandemic world. This has been a great year with so many exciting changes for Carriel. The positive energy is contagious!

I went to this school years and years go. My parents were in the military so I've been to many schools, and I can say with full confidence this is the worst school I've ever gone to. I transferred schools in middle school, and after leaving Carriel my learning was significantly better. There are many good teachers here, especially the art and music teachers when I went here, but the funding for the arts programs was abhorrent, it was clear that the school did not care about the arts while simultaneously giving thousands of dollars of funding to their sports programs, and taking away funding from any art classes or programs. The school staff and management do not care about the well-being of the students here, and prioritize their public image and profit over the lives of the students. Most people I knew here struggled with mental health issues, and there was absolutely no school support for any of the students. I'm sure some people had a good experience here, but I know for a fact that many people I knew personally did not. Being a high school senior now I can say I had much more work in this school then I ever had in high school taking multiple AP and college level courses, I would have barely any free time and would have hours and hours of work every day after school. If you have the choice, I would say go to a different school in the area. I transferred to Mascoutah and it was a pretty good school, better than this, even though this school is the "best in the area."

the building and the most of the teachers are nice, but they act like you already know everything. There is a lot o bullying and racial things that go on almost every day, I would recommend a different school becasue they do nothing about all the racial thing that go on every day.

This school is terrible! My child was bullied by a teacher as verified by another staff member. The administration did not believe him and accused him of slander.

The teachers here always get mad at the students for no reasons and most of them don't care about the children.

I love this school and all the opportunities it offer it's students. My daughter works hard but is very quiet, she was shocked when her teachers nominated her for Student of the Month. I'm telling you with great teachers much can be accomplished.
