I indicated I really like the school but won't recommend it to you. That's because every school in O'Fallon Dist 90 is suffering from severe cuts due to lacking state funds (affecting ALL of IL) and poor community planning. Already one of the nation's highest taxed community, the citizens just voted "NO" to a referendum that was necessary just to maintain current staff (and overcrowding is an issue here because they can't hire new teachers) and to keep all specials, music, computer, PE, etc in schools. Staff have already been handed notice that their job is being cut. If you have orders to Scott AFB, look far and wide for good schools and make sure you call the principal to see what your school year will look like because changes are coming fast. EK has a great staff and HAD a great reputation, which is why we moved here two years ago. I cannot tress enough how disappointed families here are about the situation. Parents already have to volunteer for art and library. Avoid it.
- Recommendations: I wouldn't recommend other schools in this city. In my opinion, EK is the best school in this city, given what money they have to work with. There is no end in sight to their budget woes. I can only recommend other cities worth looking into, but cannot speak for the actual quality of schools. They include Mascoutah, Shiloh, or Edwardsville.

- What did you like? I do appreciate that the teachers are dedicated, the principal provides great leadership, the environment is very caring. The staff pulls together and works as a team to try and provide the best education they can. The student body is relatively diverse, which is something important to us. For a fee, the staff offers after school "enrichment" programs, which are given 4 times throughout the year and have been fun for my kids. The PTO is fairly active, though parents are called upon to full in a lot of gaps. The school nurse is very caring and professional. My kids in First grade got a chance to sing the National anthem at a Cardinal's game which is a memory we will cherish - but looks like those programs will be cut in the future, though that is all uncertain at this time. During the holiday season, a small "shop" is opened and children are helped with buying presents for family members. Very family oriented school.
- What did you dislike? Lunch and recess are under-supervised. Class sizes are large. At any grade level, anywhere from 24-29 kids per class with no aids. Parents serve as the art teachers, which kids only get once a month through a program called "Get Smart with Art." There is no librarian, parents volunteer to serve there as well.
