If you want to send your child to a school that doesn't care about them, their education, or the kind of learning environment they're in... this is the place for you. Daily fist fights between students, just letting kids with special needs pass rather than putting in the work to REALLY teach them, no enforced dress code, or ANY code for that matter. You can skip or have horrible grades and still magically play a sport or compete in cheer. I feel sad for the students at this school. Most have no support at home or at the school. The few that want to learn and succeed are drowned out by the chaos that is almost constant in their classrooms. Dont believe me... check out all the pages on Instagram dedicated to the fights that go on there.

This school has a Dean that likes to intimidate students, force them to admit to acts they have not done. The Dean likes to snap his fingers at his students in order to get them to comply to his demands. When questioned about it he claims to not have done any of that yet he tries to get students to admit they did something wrong. If I didn’t live in round lake or had a choice to change schools I would in a heart beat.

This school has a Dean that likes to intimidate students, force them to admit to acts they have not done and they refuse to give a special needs student the help that he obviously needs. Probably because since they’re the homeschool they have to pay for any accommodations. They also do not keep parents updated with grades and get upset when you inquire, and actually place the blame on you letting you know infinite campus shows parents their students grade. However being a parent that is very involved I shut that comment down quickly. If I didn’t live in round lake or had a choice to change schools I would in a heart beat.

The teacher is good and treats all students with respect but on the other hand security and the new dean are all on a power trip and believe everyone is a liar. I've had two instances in which the new lady dean has falsely accused me of acts which I have not done. After the bad security guard harassing students and the deans having power trips, the round lake is a decent school.

The ratings as of May 2017 need to go up. Round Lake HS ranked in the top 10 percent in the nation and top 12 percent in the state. The village voted to renovate a huge part of the school and trust me, Round Lake has definitely gotten an upgrade both physically, but also academically. Any of these comments older than a year are outdated, Round Lake is thriving and advancing, and it's definitely noticeable.

Lack of extracurricular activities means people just clock in and out during the school day. No one stays after for enrichment and/or extra help.

Posted: December 13, 2015

I honestly don't know. There's not a lot of opportunity to see what other teachers are doing.

Posted: December 13, 2015

Since the beginning of the year, the class has not had a single homework assignment that the whole class completed on time. This is the rule and not the exception.

Nothing about the school should be considered fair. Everyone takes consequences as personal attacks and there is no sense of responsibility for ones actions.

I am sorry but I experienced RLHS first hand and I can assure you that "You make what you want of high school", is not an accurate description of that "awesome" institution. No, most schools do not have gangs. In fact most schools remove those type of toxic people to better the students that do care about their education. I was only subjected to this school for one year (Junior year) and I can definitely say that anyone that wants to have a good foundation for College should NOT attend RLHS. To start off I was given 4 study halls because of lack of funding for a full 8 period day. If that is not enough for you continue reading. The classes that I did have I was in Honors classes (they did not allow me to take AP classes as a Junior for some absurd reason).

I have a child who attends RLHS. I agree with the last persons review, school is what you make it. The Staff cares and is actively involved in the well being of the students. My child with his effort and help from the staff(direction every year what needs to be done to obtain his goals) has graduated a semester early. Yes the school is old and it has gangs. Alot of schools do now a days. Cant get away from it really. But if youre actively involved in your childs life then it doesnt matter how old the school is. They are even talking about adding on to this school. And school is what the student makes it.

People who rate this school as awful are most likely coming at it from an outsider's perspective. I went to RLAS from K-12, graduated, and now attend one of the top private schools in the country. Some of my classmates are at institutions like Yale, Dartmouth, Harvard, Smith, Amherst, etc. Some of the highest ranking schools in the country. This school is what you make of it. This school is brought down not by the people who work here but the stigma it's been given by outside communities. We are expected to not do as well because we're from a poor neighborhood, but honestly, putting in some effort on the students' and parents' side of things is what's missing.

THIS SCHOOL IS GOD AWFUL . I advise everybody not to come to this school if you have a choice .. this is coming from a current junior in the process of transferring schools . Do not attend RLHS .

Excellent school with great honors programs and support for multilingual students. School offers many different programs for all students.

I am currently a sophomore at Round Lake High School, and I am enrolled in both honors and AP classes. I honestly don't think that RLHS gets enough credit, because it had been looked down upon by other school districts for years; the regular classes may not be as productive but I feel that the accelerated courses are challenging and rigorous enough, and our scores of SAT and ACTs in math are pretty high, even above the national average. The math team is ranked 24th/50 schools in IL. True, we have a long way to go, especially in the English and history departments, but academically, we're doing quite well. However, in terms of the social environment of the school, there is a lot of bullying and physical violence that goes on that need to be resolved. Teen pregnancy is another major problem. My other complaint would be that the Fine Arts at this school doesn't get enough recognition, and that we lack funds to do greater things with our band and choir programs. Athletic-wise, our Varsity soccer team is ranked 10th in the state, which is not too shabby and our football team is making a great comeback this season. We may lack the prestige and the money, but this is a pretty good school.

I attended the school from 1971 to 1975. It was and is a great school. I almost graduated in 1975, needed 1/2 credit!
