This is not the best school to go to the whole town is boring no one talks to each other in the town. I dont really like the school the teachers are kinda strict depends on the teacher u have. The security arent as strict its just during passing period if u DoorDash food they wont let u I dont know why . im not pointing out students or staff thats just from my opinoin lol. I rate this school 3/10. The food isnt that good eather. The positive thing is its easy to make friends and u can go in in out of the school for lunch or things like that and the sports teams are ok I guess. And the school has sports teams but they should add a swimming team I think that would be fun.

Alumni with several friends kids in attendance- WHS can be a great school if you are an engaged student - lots of extracurriculars and AP programs. At the same time, they can absolutely let kids slip through the cracks who need academic counseling and study skill development. My experience was that the faculty cares most about safety and ensuring kids graduate. They put emphasis on top performers but as many other commenters have said, parents of average to below average students should not expect a lot assistance.

I went to WHS , It was a great school that I attended. It had all i needed, such as books and materials and great teachers. i graduated 2019 , i really miss my home school . i will i went back there

My daughter is now starting her senior year. I have had to contact the administration consistently throughout her educational experience at this school hoping to improve her extremely poor quality of life due to the bullying tolerated at this school.
We had hoped things would change for her this year. However, she once again is being told she is worthless and better off dead by the same select group of children. Maybe they are considered more important by the administration of the school due to the fact they are wrestlers.
I think I will have my daughter read the Banality of Evil this year. It may help her to understand she is not alone in this struggle against stupidity.

Wauconda High School is a great school, some people don't like it, but they just need to make the most of their experience. No school is going to be perfect and I don't think a lot of students, or parents understand that when they give this school a one-star rating. This school has presented me with so many wonderful opportunities to get involved and travel. This school also offers a vast array of different classes to take. The staff is great too!

This has got to be the worst experience my child had in his entire school experience. The bullying was horrific despite my constant calls for something to be done about it. Two teachers bullied him as well!! This is NOT a first class school and never will be. The Principal and the Assistant Principal were useless. The Assistant Principal at the time was mouthy and kept telling the kids they were going to jail. It seems that rather than have any compassion for my son's learning difficulties due to the bullying, the answer was to ship him off to a Sedol school. He missed out on classes he would have enjoyed. The guidance counselor he had was so misinformed academically and left me wondering why he was in that position in the first place. There was more damage done than should ever have happened. There is not, and most likely never will be, an extensive No Tolerance Rule for the bullying. When you have a teacher who is a bully, and who tried to enlist another to do the same, there is something sick and wrong with this school. It was reported and nothing was done about it. My biggest regret is enrolling my child in this school.

People in average classes will be fine. People in Honors classes will find themselves up at 4 am several times throughout the year trying to finish their three different projects that are due the next day. I like some of the projects, though, so I will not complain. Still, it is a little hard to function on an hour and a half of sleep.

The teachers here are decent. Their assignments are interesting and the projects that they give to the students to complete require a lot of creativity and thought. I have never really had any issues with my teachers so far. They treat their students nicely and provide them with some opportunities to succeed if they are struggling in a class. They cannot do much about bullying because they do not have the authority.

There are classes for people with learning difficulties and opportunities for them to receive extra help if they need it. According to someone I knew who had a learning difficulty, the teachers are supportive and helpful. However, some of the students who attend those classes still suffer at the hands of the other students outside of their class. Once again, bullying is everywhere.

The bullying policy at this school is absolute rubbish. The teachers try to do what they can to limit the bullying, but there is only so much that they can do. No higher officials at the school do much of anything to help solve the problems. People who do these things get away with it over and over again.

The homework at the school is not even bad, but if you're a ap and honors student you will drown in homework. You should have to show up and pay attention and ask questions if you are not unsure about your homework.

I am a current student at wauconda and I love going there the staff and students are so nice and caring. The school is big on their spirit. Our sports teams we are pretty good. Considering that our wrestling team got 2nd place in state and our dance team got 8th in state.. but hey that is pretty good. Some people are not big fans of the school because they tend to get in trouble most of the time and the staff does not like it when you disobey them or if you are rude towards them, so they will give you the consequences you deserve. All in all, I think wauconda is a great place I made awesome friends and memories there I'm sure going to miss it once I graduate.

The review from -a student. Sounds exactly like my daughter. I even thought it was . Only it was written almost 2 years before she started. This school is the worst place you could ever send your child. Its my daughters first year and she has suffered bullying and it has taken her way down. Its excruciating to watch. Her grades are down shes asked for help but nothing.

Homework was used to reinforce lessons in class. Time was set aside (study hall) to give students the opportunity to do some of the homework in school as well as seek guidance in the respective departments.

Wauconda may be a smaller school compared to others in the area, but this can be a great advantage to students. Since kindergarten I was enrolled in D118 schools. The honors track greatly prepared me for my success in college. There were many opportunities to get involved at the school and receive great guidance from teachers and staff. I am now in a doctorate program and have to offer my sincere regards to the community and district for preparing me for where I am.

Great teachers, extremely helpful staff , with every conference, phone call you fell fully informed about your kid . My son was a transfer after freshman year and I couldn't be more happy about Wauconda HS !

College entrance continues to rise at Wauconda each year over the last 5 students have achieved perfect ACT scores and several have gone on to attend ivy league universities.

The homework given grew as my children went from freshmen to seniors as they should. The level and type of homework given matched accurately what a college student would receive as they neared their senior year.

I have had two boys attend Wauconda High School both one very good student and one with special needs. Both were treated exceptionally well by all staff at Wauconda high school. This is a school where the students are kind hearted, warm and where my boys have made their lifelong friends. Both boys are now attending college and much of their success there can be attributed to the wonderful support and experience they have had at Wauconda.

Most of these reviews are old and many seem to be from people who seem to feel personally put upon or are whining about some incident. As a resident if Wauconda township, I have worked with the Future Business Leaders of America club and have found the students, faculty, and community members to be exceptional! They are the largest club at the school and 8th largest chapter in the USA. This year, after participating in rigorous regional and state competitions, they are sending 20 deserving students to the National Competition. These students QUALIFIED for this honor in competition. It is a significant achievement of national importance. Quite often in high school students do not perform well. The tendency is to blame the school when the real cause is the student or the support they get from their parents. Motivated students supported by parents, teachers, and the community are what creates successful schools. These students have brought repeated honor (the club has only been in existence for about 5-6 years and they have gone to Nationals 3 or 4 times) to the school based on their knowledge, skill, drive and determination.

We live in a small town with a big heart - and that transfers to our schools. It's wonderful to be in a school system where everyone knows everyone - it takes a village. Our teachers are top notch and dedicated, our school board is extremely knowledgeable both financially and educationally, our school staff welcoming and encouraging. There are many clubs, activities and sports available for many different aspects of a child's personality, and there is even a late bus to bring your child home if they are involved in after school activities. For older kids several of our schools are within walking distance of Main Street, the heart of Wauconda. My children have thrived beyond my expectations - couldn't be happier to be living in Wauconda!

Great school overall. Have had teachers and coaches reach out to us. My kids enjoy their classes and teachers and are challenged. Great AP class offerings and 12 more are being added next year. There are also a plethora of other activities besides sports to be involved in for extra curricular activities.

I am an "All of the Above" commenter. I attended this school, my son attended this school, and I coach the High School Academic Team at this school! I value not only the education I received here (I became a teacher myself) but the character of the students and staff here. Our children are raised to believe they are part of a "First Class School" and a "First Class Community". They truly live by this credo. Right now, we have one of the largest FBLA clubs in the country, and those kids work hand in hand closely with our local Chamber members. This town in truly invested in our students and they already know how to give back!

Wauconda High School has given me a unique experience that I would not find elsewhere. I plan on studying Actuarial Science and Wauconda has fostered that growth tremendously. They have a phenomenal FBLA and Math Team. These clubs have been vital to my college preparation. The beauty of Wauconda is that this is simply my story; there are hundred more just like it. All students have a club, organization, or sport that they turn to. I am truly proud to be a student at Wauconda.

The teachers don't know how to explain their lessons. They expect you to understand what they say and if you ask to clear things out they give you attitude and get mad for asking again. If you fail a test the teachers don't care about it. They just give it to you and don't take an effort to ask what your struggling with. In the other hand there are a couple of teachers who do help. The deans and security staff are Very disrespectful assuming you are doing bad at all times. And the principal doesn't take action either. They yell at students for saying their opinions of what can help the school and say that we are "telling them how to do their job". Don't do anything about drug problems, bullying problems, and sexually active problems. There's so many things wrong with this school. They say they are a "good" school but inside the high school there is disrupt young adults who are going out in the real world and have no respect and think they are superior to others. I see no future in these kids because the high school doesn't take action in helping all of us out.

If you have an honors student that doesn't need any help they will do fine. Everyone else better be prepared to run into conflicts with the teachers and administration. They don't like to have to do any work to help the students. I hope the state changes the union rules because half of the teachers will probably be let go. There not there to teach but just waiting for there pension and benefits.

WHS has done more harm than good with my kids They were ill prepared for college, were not taught decent skills, study habits, etc. Special needs-HORRIBLE! say 1 thing, write another- if it's not in writing it didn't happen. 1 teacher in particular is ruthless and it's her way or move 'em out of her class Freshman year. Special Ed was poorly rated for implementation from a state service that came in to "help. Teach tolerance for that rather than ship them to sedol school. Not enough is done with drugs. Zero tolerance is a joke. Especially with football and cheer. They don't enforce zero tolerance with drugs or bullying. School and police work hand in hand, but not for what's best of the student usually. They just want to "look good on paper. The school NEEDS to cut out busy work, TEACH! IMPLEMENT an across the board bullying program, including assembly high school wide to address how severe it is, more drug sweeps, and improve S.E. services that are appropriate for the child and not just the ease of the school. Superintendent is Special Ed Lake County tho. . We liked the Grade School and Middle School, and the hard working staff. Parents are outsiders unless you conform.

Most kids go to college from this school, with a handful going into the military and trades. The school is the center of the community and it's small semi-rural/semi-suburban setting has effectively insulated it from a lot of problems seen in other area schools. There is a good demographic mix and there does not seem to be economic pressure on the kids. It is socially a great, safe place for students to learn and make friends. Most teachers are excellent - a few need to go, but this is the case in every school. They have strong athletic and arts programming, and contrary to older reviews, they a new performing arts wing. Arts programs are well funded. My only complaints are that the English writing curriculum is very weak. I've taught my son to write at home as he was earning A grades for what I considered to be C papers. The deans suspend many kids when a simple "knock it off" or detention would do. They are strong in supporting kids in special ed, but mainstreamed kids with ADHD, dyslexia or other less serious learning issues are neglected - 504s and IEPs are not implemented unless parents are on their backs 24/7 about it. They lack insight into these disorders.
