I’m really disappointed in how this school handles bullying. There seems to be a lack of urgency and accountability when it comes to protecting students. Bullying is a serious issue, and children should feel safe, supported, and heard while they’re at school. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the experience here.

Concerns that are brought forward don’t appear to be taken seriously or followed through with meaningful action. It feels like the responsibility is often minimized instead of addressed properly. Schools should have clear protocols, consistent communication, and a strong stance against bullying—but that’s not what we’ve seen.

Every child deserves to learn in an environment where they feel secure and respected. I hope the school takes a closer look at how these situations are handled and makes improvements to better support students moving forward.

We enrolled based on strong recommendations, but our experience was deeply concerning.
Within two months, our daughter became withdrawn. By three months, she was engaging in significant negative self-talk. By December, she began sharing incidents that we understood to be bullying, verbal at this point. I raised concerns with her teacher, hoping to address the situation before it escalated.
It did escalate. In the following weeks among other things, our daughter reported being kicked to the ground by two students who then laughed at her. Shortly after, we discovered a large bruise on her shoulder—she told us she had been kicked at recess. We were NOT notified of any of these incidents by school staff. Our daughter and another student both stated they reported these incidents to teachers; upon the principal's "investigation" both staff members denied being told and we received no follow-up to this from the principal. Also, during the investigation the principal didn't bother to speak to our daughter herself. No incident reports were provided despite our requests.
The situation continued alongside ongoing verbal bullying. In February, we discovered our daughter writing a suicide note. We immediately raised this with the principal and requested urgent intervention. It was at this point due to my insistence the principal finally spoke to our daughter and switched her to another daytime classroom.
A meeting was held and a safety plan was discussed, including keeping the students separated and notifying us of any incidents. We were not provided a copy of this plan. It was also not effectively implemented—less than two hours later, one of the students approached our daughter at recess and forcibly grabbed her. Throughout the process it was made clear, our daughter's safety was not a priority, nor would there ever be any accountability taken. Instead we received excuses and justifications for the lack of action. It was highly felt my daughter was an inconvenience.
The following Monday during After Care, our daughter was slammed into a wall, hitting her head. Staff were made aware at the time, but we were NOT informed by any staff. We learned of this afterward from our 6 year old daughter.
At that point, due to concerns about communication and lack of student safety, we withdrew our daughter.
Families all have different experiences, unfortunately ours has left our daughter with continuing nightmares and weekly counseling sessions.

While I understand many families have positive experiences at this school, our experience was unfortunately quite different. In our experience & opinion we found the principal's professionalism to be lacking. She dismissed our concerns about our child being bullied & shared negative & inaccurate information about our child both verbally and in writing with other parents. She also disclosed inappropriate information to me about the other students including grades, behavioral issues, mental health and personal details. It's our feeling the principal displayed clear disdain for our child & our family, which we feel was evident in her interactions with us & others. We heard from a few parents who felt the principal was intentionally creating division.
Furthermore, it's our opinion & belief there was negligent supervision regarding the bullying our child endured. There were instances when our child came home with bruises and ice packs from the school nurse due to being struck by another student. The principal failed to notify us when our child was injured the last time & ignored the part of our emails that sought information about it. When we inquired about the verbal bulling we were told, "We don't do anything about that in in jr. high." This contradicts the school handbook, which states that all bullying is to be taken seriously. The principal's dismissive tone & admission that she hadn't taken our concerns seriously didn't help the situation (in our opinion). The bullying escalated to the point where our child received text messages that the Archdiocese advised us to report to the police (these messages were received immediately after we left the school). Despite this, the Archdiocese supported the decision to allow those who participated in this inappropriate behavior to remain in school while our family was asked to leave for "other" reasons. The Archdiocese acknowledged that both sharing student information & allowing bullying are against the law, & is why they would not explain why the students they told us to report to the police were allowed to remain & our family had to leave.
We also observed other instances of what we perceived as maltreatment, such as unfair academic advantages given to certain students and inconsistent disciplinary actions. Such as allowing a student who threatened gun violence with police involvement to remain in school & return the following year to graduate while others are asked to leave for far less serious infractions.

Saint Gilbert School is home. We have made so many life long friends here. We know the staff and the teachers are devoted to the well being of our children not just academically but spiritually too. They continue to amaze us with all the do to make this such a great community.

The teachers go above and beyond. They are truly dedicated to my children's future. They find my children's strengths and help them develop those qualities to become better students and better citizens.

It is a wonderful community. Our children are experiencing a strong academic curriculum as well as learning faith based life lessons that are teaching them how to be strong leaders.

Amazing school. Community based, lots of parent involvement, faith based - core values instilled in our daughter are very evident in how she lives her daily life. Strong math and science programs, test scores well above the national average. More extracurriculars than you can imagine: Science, math club, art club, chess club, news crew, computer club, annual play, basketball, volleyball, softball, track, cross country, band, scrapbooking, green team, choir... There is literally something for everyone. Teachers are experienced, and collaboration is evident. They seem to realize that the most important thing that they teach is not their subject of expertise, it is our children.

We enrolled our child three years ago and are quite satisfied with the education she is receiving. As parents we sought a school with a high reputation for academic performance as well as an environment that fostered personal growth, creativity, and responsibility. While every school has opportunities to improve, what is most impressive about St. Gilbert is it realizes improvement is the result of open and honest relationships with parents. All of the school s administrators, board members, and faculty are accessible and engaged in delivering a quality educational experience. The net result is our child is receiving a great education within a framework of traditional Christian values.

I removed my daughter from St. Gilbert in 2006 due to the administrator mentioned in the most recent post. I am thrilled to hear that she is leaving. I have had two children at SGS in grades k-3 and the teachers are amazing! They are among the most caring and capable teachers around. They create communities in their classrooms. The quality of teaching is unmatched in this area. The teachers are pure gold!

St. Gilbert Elementary School suffers greatly from an extremely poor administratior. There is very little coordination between teachers in each grade - and no communication between the administration and teachers.
