Piper as a district has let my kids and I down. We've been in this district for 8 years and each year has grown progressively worse. The teachers at the M.S. have stripped my black of any hope and/or desire to learn. I receive calls from the grade -level administrator weekly to inform me of something my child has done wrong. These are "childish" behaviors of which should be expected from a child such as, running in the hallway, giggling when someone passes gas, slapping someone's had down when they're physically putting hitting my child in the face. If you are considering Piper for the next school for your children - of color- I would not recommend sending them here.
The elementary schools are no better, unfortunately. I do not care to go into the specifics to protect my children, But I certainly plan to come back to complete my thoughts after I withdraw my children from Piper School district. I am both saddened and disappointed to watch my children experience racial segregation in the 21st century.

No they're not. The 6th grade teachers were bullies. I was at the school at least 4 times a week because of the treatment of the teachers.

There is no leadership. School year 2017-2018 Leadership went to jail for sending inappropriate pictures to children of himself.

The most terrible experience I've ever had. I raised my 6 black sons in Johnson county and didn't go though this much disrespect and bullying by faculty and students.

I have 3 children in this school district (14, 9, 5). I couldn't be more pleased! The teacher's always show a sense of ownership and compassion for the children. I too adore the diversity of the student body and feel this will serve my children up well in the future. Need I mention that Piper was rated the #1 district in Ks last year? Also as a level set my two oldest spent K and K-5 at Gardner Edgerton. My oldest has been in an IEP since the get go and frankly wasn't placed on a trajectory to graduate at peer level. The younger child mastered K in the ffirst quarter. They BOTH had to step up their game in Piper. The oldest finally started being challenged with the stated goal of being out of IEP ASAP. The younger was almost put in an IEP because he was behind in reading! Both children have handled the challenge well and are doing very well at Piper. Gardner-Edgerton was supposedly a "school of excellence" as well but I don't understand how. The leap in curriculum was substantial!

I just rated the school and forgot this part. I do love the diversity and small town feel of the school.My child feels good here much better than the Johnson County school she was in last year. My score may change but it's a little early in the year right now--so this is pretty good so far i think
