My child transferred mid-year from another school. At Kammerer, he was welcomed by his teachers and peers. The counselor ensured he was placed in the appropriate classes. The teachers provide challenging work and support students with extra time or help as needed. He is performing better academically and is happier socially.

Kammerer has been a great fit for 3 of my children. They transitioned with friends from elementary school and that helped them grow emotionally. Middle school is a hard time and full of learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom. Since KMS is not a huge school - Ive been able to meet every staff member over the years and watch their styles of teaching. The new explorer program has elevated learning. My student is engaged in all her classes, band and engineering. She has a good balance of sports and clubs.

We as a family have no doubt where our little one will head in a few years.

All four of my children have attended Kammerer and have had a great experience. My favorite thing about the school is that the teachers and staff are very invested in making sure each child feels like they belong and are part of the community. There are so many options for sports and clubs and every student is encouraged to participate. I would never send a child anywhere else! Middle school is rough, but Kammerer has been a soft place for my children to land.

This is my 2nd child at KMS. My eldest went through during COVID, and despite all online reports, he thrived during his time there 2019-2022 - was never bullied, teachers communicated with us and he always felt safe. My current student is in 7th grade and her experience has been AMAZING! I have found that the teachers and staff meet the kids where they are, emotionally and academically. My daughter is eager to be at school everyday and the staff goes above and beyond to fulfill her interests. The administration is very responsive. My rising 6th grader will be going there next year, willingly - not because he isn't getting into a magnet.

Post-COVID, a really disappointing, mediocre experience. Out of control fighting; many ineffective and "checked out" teachers; zero school community or traditions; poorly organized sports and arts. There are a few bright spots, but if you can afford other options, take them.

When I think of Kammerer Middle School I remember what Thomas Edison said, "Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. Kammerer Middle encourages their students enough not to give up but to continue to fight because there's a light at the end of the tunnel. So my experience as well as my children's has been excellent.

I strongly feel that children need reinforcement. Homework improves your childs thinking and memory. It helps your child develop positive study skills and habits that will serve him or her well throughout their life. Homework encourages your child to use time wisely. It teaches your child to work independently.

As a parent my experience at Kammerer Middle School has been a positive one with my two children. An effective teacher is one with the ability to create an effective learning environment. In which I have experience with my childrens teachers. My children teacher has shown a sense of mutual respect with their students, which is an important indicator of success in the classroom.

This school is not good. The teachers don't care about you because schools don't care about their teachers. Homework is to easy, bullying was horrific and I would know as a former student there. I came in 8th grade and was not welcomed and my best friend was bullied to the point of fear to walk around the school because of her appearance. Do not send you child here, I strongly believe it is unhealthy for them mentally and physically

Middle School is just a rough time of life; but all parents know that. My two children have done very well in the AP classes at Kammerer Middle School. It's to be expected that you might have one or two teachers who aren't 'always excited' about their job, but for the most part, the teachers have been wonderful and I would not change the middle school experience we've had.

Love this school!! I have an 8th grader & a 6th grader who are both thriving at KMS. There is such a great mixture of kids &the amount of activities they offer to students is incredible. There is something for everyone to participate in, & if there isn't, a new club can be created, like the ping pong club they added last year. The administration is dedicated to making out a safe environment that promotes learning & accountability. Can't say enough great things about KMS!!

My oldest two children are both at Kammerer right now, so I've been aware of this school for three years in a variety of ways. Faculty and staff have been attentive to meet each of my kids' (very different) needs. Multiple adults and overall programming encourage the best out of my kids every single day. Sports, music, art, intellect, character - there are countless opportunities for Kammerer students to get involved and find their way to what they like most; what they're best at. The teachers are extremely diligent. The principal cares deeply and is very candid at PTSA meetings and other parent discussions, but he has a no-nonsense policy that keeps the school safe and on track. I love Kammerer. I love the families we are around at various activities. I love the way clubs and activities are structured. It has been a real blessing for both of my middle schoolers - for my whole family. I can't say enough wonderful things about our Cub Pride!

My son is in 8th grade this year and has been at Kammerer since 6th grade. I wouldn't say that the school is bad exactly but there's nothing about this school that screams that your child needs to go here. My son is a straight A, AP student and is completely bored out of his mind because there's nothing and no one to challenge him or make things interesting. The school's biggest issue in my opinion is the severe lack in communication. As a student, my son has had nothing but problems (all 3 years that he's been there) in getting his teachers to help him, explain things or just be present. As a parent, I've had nothing but issues trying to contact teachers. I signed up for a parent/teacher conference and not one of the teachers showed up.
Overall, this school is just a building for your children to come and be taught the basics. There's absolutely nothing special or redeeming about this school. I will not be sending my youngest to this school when the time comes for her to enter middle school.

My fifth year with students at this school. Of course, it is not perfect but it functions perfectly by the rules of the JCPS administration--which hands down poor, ineffective and inefficient solutions not just for KMS but for all JCPS middle schools. My children are learning to deal with diversity--social and economic--and learning that life is not fair regardless of what you do or don't do. The new principal is awesome. The district threw the prior principal under the bus by sending her to KMS. She, too, is a great principle..just not for a school like KMS where the district increases their enrollment overnight by over 100 UNDERperforming students without the resources in place to support their advancement. I'm giving the school 5 stars because 90% of the teachers are awesome! The other 10% just teach our children to deal with reality of life. Administration & staff are 100% awesome.

Just had a teacher call. My daughter asked for tutoring for some additional help. Teacher's response? She couldn't possibly. She has 28 students in her class. Really? They don't send home textbooks here. So, good luck kid. Not impressed. My other daughter is very intelligent. Finishing her work in a few minutes and reading all day long. If you are a middle of the roader, welcome to Kammerer! Middle of the road is all they seem to cater to here!

My daughter is a 6th grader this year & we've been so impressed! Kammerer is an outstanding school with a fully involved staff that truly cares about making this school the best. The parent involvement is huge & the extra curricular activities have an amazing group that leads them. We're so glad that Mr. Armour is back and committed to making Kammerer a top notch school!

I graduated from this school 3 years ago. There were fights everywhere and the students had absolutely no respect for the teachers and staff. I learned basically nothing at this school. There were fights at least twice a week and I couldn't walk through the hallway without worrying someone was going to pick on me. This school is what made me have the problems I have with anxiety up to this day. Really hope it's gotten better since then...

Open door policy with this administration is key. This school is going through a lot of change right now. If you don't understand some of the changes or why they are being made ask. Shoot a simple email or sit in on a PTSA meeting. I guarantee you will get your answer. Couldn't be happier about what is going on at Kammerer Middle School. GO CUBS!

This school is definitely on the upswing. Since the start of the 2014-2015 school year began, starting with orientation, I have seen long awaited positive change. This school is under much needed new leadership and is transitioning into a school that will produce smart, respectful and ambitious students. I have been told by daughter that it's tough right now, talking in the halls is limited during the changing of classes and even the slightest questionable behavior is not tolerated. It's all for the greater good! This school needed an IRON FIST and it has finally arrived!! KUDOS!

This school needs better communication with parents. There should be smaller class sizes,the teachers are trying to make lemonade out of lemons, but there seems to be a constant focus on test scores, I'm not sure that core principles/concepts are being understood. I hope that the new principal will make the necessary changes to help the students and the teachers.

This school is by far one of the worst schools I have ever been involved with. Major issues that you will encounter: poor leadership, teachers who only want to teach the "well-behaved" student, BULLYING by students and STAFF, incompetent teachers, and out of control behavior. My child has dealt with all of these issues and nothing is done about this school. Some teachers not lack integrity and WILL NOT teach your child. There is much division with AP vs honors and comp...this includes whites and blacks. Your child will leave this school with low self esteem, lack of an education (if they're not well-behaved or have a mild learning disability), and hating thus school. Good luck if you choose this school.

My son is in his second year in Kammerer and we can't be more please with the academics and the staff, they really work hard everyday to ensure that the children receive the best possible education and parent involvement is phenomenal. I'll recommend to every prospective parent in the school boundaries to consider this school before make a decision.

My child was supposed to attend Kammerer, but I heard so many rumors about the difference between the children in the AP program vs "comprehensive" (standard) program. Although he did not test into the AP program, he was recommended by his elementary school as a sit in due to his GPA and teacher recommendation, but Kammerer's SBDM policy does not allow sit ins. We were given the option for the fairly new "honors" program that has not been established as successful. My other child is already a guinea pig for an experimental program by JCPS. I don't need another, thanks. His middle school counselor at a different JCPS school allowed him to be a sit-in for their AP program after a 2 min conversation. If you're a parent who fights for your child through the JCPS system, it appears as though you'll have your work cut out for you at this school. Glad we were able to go elsewhere.

Kammerer Middle School almost ruined my daughters life. She had been bullied non stop for three years and nothing really was ever solved. She was not an angel but certainly did not deserve the treatment she received from the few students and most of all from the adults! In the end she snapped and has never been the same. Of course she was dealt with and the kids that pushed her to the edge were let off with no punishment! Think long and hard before sending your child to this school!

This school is absolutely terrible. I am a student here, but don't think that my review is inaccurate just because of that. I am fair minded. Lets start with the kids here. These kids have no respect for the rules what-so-ever, I can't walk through the hallway without worrying about getting hit by a stray punch. In the cafeteria, there are curse words flying everywhere. I get called a ***** several times a day because I'm not a thug like the rest of the kids there. They do nothing to help kids that are struggling, there is no individual content at all.They do not enforce discipline like they should. The only good thing about this school is the band program. I was in band and I loved the teacher. She understood kids. She new what their lives were like, and actually cared about them.

I am a KMS student, and this school is CRAZY! Fights are every where, and it's disturbing and disrespectful to teachers and students. Though they are kind of funny. If it's not too violent, and I have seen those. Surprisingly, this school has a great music department though. So, overall, the teachers are good, but the students aren't so good.

I just graduated from Kammerer. I'm not going to lie, the school has some flaws, but what school doesn't? However, they are improving. They spent a lot of money on re-doing the building. They also installed cameras. There were a couple fights, but that was resolved. Not to mention, what school doesn't have fights. Most of the teachers are great. Just because you don't like them, doesn't mean they aren't good. We are pushed to the limit and like its motto, "Excellence is the expectation." I loved this school and the people in it.

Alright, I am a KMS student at the moment, in the 7th grade. I switched very close to the end of the year, and so I have only been at the school for two weeks. So far there have been at least 5 incidents. Most including bullying in some way. I find this troubling, although it may just be me, comparing it to my old school. I don't feel like the students learn, or put forth their best effort, which in turn rubs off on the teachers. The teachers don't care what you do, or if you learn or not. Some demand attention, which only works half the time, while others sit at their desks speechless. I have not once see the principal do anything productive, all I have seen is the assistant principle yell. This bothers me, and as said before, this school has a bullying problem, and I see no one taking actions to stop it. Sure, they have an undefeated Field Hockey team, but how would being able to play a sport get you a scholarship if you learned nothing for three years of school? I know I made this school sound awful, and I'm sure it has strong points, but I haven't found one yet.

Bullying is out of control! One boy threatened to kill me and the principal did nothing about it. The class sizes are huge and there are no special programs for children with just mild learning disorders such as ADD. I would never recommend this school to someone else.

We had the worst year ever, we have had to go through major strides in order not to go back. Many teachers really great, they know who they are, other ones, just there to collect a check, live on their cells, computers and of course face book and twitter, which are the same ones who are absent constantly. It's very sad. And they know who they are also. The worst issues, bullies and lack of the Principal's involvement. The main school principal hides out and doesn't take any responsibility for what goes on in the school. Walk past her and you'd never know she's a principal of such a large school, holds her head down so she doesn't have to acknowledge anyone. A parent has to go way out of the way to get her to speak or look up. Imagine what the students must feel on a daily basis. There is a female asst. principal there who also Never Ever smiles and I heard yells at kids and treats them badly in her office and nobody does anything about it. All heads down-nobody notices anything, that is how things are on a daily basis in our experience at Kammerer. I am happy for the students who are having good experiences. Sad for kids who are lost and neglected. Our spirit was broken.
