My son was recently a student at Kerr, and I have to say that my initial thoughts visiting the school was only re-enforced by the experiences my son had while there. I am of the opinion to give everything/everyone a chance, that school of thought was challenged to say the least. When you walk into the halls the odor of old urine is everywhere, this drifts into the classrooms as well. The caliber of teachers at this establishment are very low and they do not seem interested in establishing a relationship with the parents, let alone give individualized help to students who would ask it of them. There is very little, if any, policing of the classroom and this has lead to certain students being allowed free reign to do what they please, to whom they please. I don't know if that is because the teachers are afraid of the children's parents/family, or because they truly don't care; either way is negligent. The "No Child Left Behind" bill has allowed schools like this to flourish by shuttling kids through grades simply for the sake of not having to deal with them next year. There is not just physical bullying either, threats are commonplace as well. The administration of the school does not seem bothered in the least by this either. This school should have a disclaimer included on its registration papers, that way everyone who signs their little ones up for school here can be properly forewarned. For as bad as we, my child and I, have had an experience here, I know there are even more children going through these injustices. So I implore you, if you are looking for a school to send your little one to, please choose a different one. Even if you have to get an extra job and shuttle your child to a private school or use a relatives address to be able to enroll in a better school. I am thankful that we could afford private school in lieu of Kerr. Please take this review as mine and mine alone, however, I have read other reviews on here and believe that I am not the only one with these view(s) of Kerr. Yes the school have bad smell and old but they tried to fix this issue. The teacher tried there best to give the kids best education they can have. My child is straight A's student and she loves the school and her teacher.

First of all the school smells badly and is very old. Classrooms are very small and they pack them to the brim with students. My daughter went from creating lifelong friendships and all A's at her highly rated school to suicidal, below average to low grades, and constantly being bullied. Don't even try to get a transfer unless you're a minority, they won't approve it.

The school smells like urine very badly. Do not expect any parent teacher conferences or homework from your child. There is zero communication with parents.

My son attends Kerr and we love it. Teachers and staff are Great. We have never had a problem.

I have NEVER seen anything like this school. We transferred to Barksdale from overseas, and because we chose to live on base, our son was FORCED to attend a sub-par elementary school. There is NO parent/teacher organization to speak of, I was never informed of any field trips until the day prior. So, for one of the field trips....I just showed up. This was an event that included every school's fourth grade class in Bossier. I looked around and saw all kinds of parent volunteers from other schools. I was the ONLY parent there from Kerr, and even then, the teachers basically told me to "stay out of the way". Unbelieveable! Failure is from the top down. The administration does NOT seem to care about the inadequacies of their staff, nor do they have the resources to make it better. I was told to "expect your child to fail" the new standardized test. Honest, it is ON THEIR WEBSITE. The school is advertising that they "expect scores to be lower this year". That may be true, but, WHY would you say that? Now, this has become the expectation, so, the staff will have ZERO accountability! And, my favorite...the playgrounds. So, (and this was from the mouth of the principal), because of "inappropriate behavior between girls/boys, they have separated them during recess time". That was first. THEN..."because of violent behavior on the playground, the children will no longer have recess". My son was continually bullied, punched, picked on, etc. by a TWELVE year old 4th grader. When I addressed the issue with his teacher, I was told "try to understand that this child has many emotional issues", and "he didn't really mean" to bust my son's lip. I heard everyday stories of children being expelled for bringing weapons and fighting. Never once did I go up to the school where it didn't have a pungent odor of urine throughout the hallways. There seems to be NO PRIDE in the appearance of the school, and the grounds are in a deplitated state. Never once was there any kind of school program (Christmas, etc), and ABSOLUTELY NO MUSIC/ART program! Literally, people are moving off base just so their children don't have to attend Kerr! Since we have live on base, we chose to move our son to another school (that I drive to and from to everyday). PLEASE PLEASE don't voluntarily allow your children to attend this school!

Out of 10 rating what is this school rating? also if you live near 400 John Wesley Blvd. are the students able to attend this year, meaning transferring from another school.Is there summer school for kid's that's in the kindergarten entering the first grade the following year?

Kerr is one of the worst schools I have ever seen. It's run down and has nothing for the kids to do. My child was ignored by the counselor after transferring from out of the country. There was nothing done to help her adapt to the school, or even so much as check on her when she was obviously not fitting in. She was repeatedly attacked on the bus by other kids, and they took the bus monitors off so the drivers have no help now. The front office "lost" my PTO registration form and money. But it doesn't make a difference since the PTO is not even functional. They had 1 meeting last year then never notified any members of what was happening. Don't bother trying to help out in you kids room, they don't want you there and will blatantly tell you so. The Kindergarten classes are GROSSLY overpopulated with well over the legal limit of kids at 24-26. The teachers try, but with too many kids, no money and lack of help you can't expect much.

Run, move, head for the hills if you are stuck in the Kerr Elementary School zone. The worse school my children have ever attended!!!!

I didn't know what to expect when I first enrolled my son in pre-k at Kerr because the school looks a bit run down, however I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of education. The teachers really care about each student and the classes are not overcrowded each student receives individual attention. My son greatly improved academically over the course of the year. In the school my son attended before I enrolled him at Kerr felt more like a overcrowded daycare rather then a learning institute. He is now in kindergarten at Kerr and doing great academically. The reason I gave the school 4 out of 5 is because the building can use some much needed updates.
