This school is so bad. There were roaches and rats everywhere, the classrooms are dirty, the teachers dont care about the students. 0/10. Do better.

I am not impressed by the "flip and zip" policy. Students are forced to walk in a single file (within a painted area on sidewalk) with arms "flipped" or folded and there is zero talking. Seems like these students are being prepared for a future at Angola Prison and not society.

No consistency in sending it, taking it up, explanation of concepts prior to sending home with students.

I want not given a very good first impression by the lack of professionalism I experienced at the open house.

Students do not seem to be given any opportunity to build friendships- lunch is "move down and sit in file" and there is no outlet for the students to be "kids" for any period of time during the instructional day.

Teachers always have students right down homework assignments in their planner.

Teachers at this school try to guide children in the right path but its up to parents at home to follow through and teach their children about integrity.

This schools does NOT tolerate bullying. My son is very comfortable here and his classmates are not allowed to bully other students. The school is constantly reminding the students to treat others with respect and show kindness to one another.

When we first moved to this town, I was nervous for my kids but in the end, I would say my son really enjoys this school. The reason I gave high ratings is because my son always comes home in a good mood, never complains about being bullied and likes to discuss what hes learning at the time. To me, he looks happy and my biggest concern was that he was taught well and treated well. He has some great teachers he looks up to especially MR. Davis who teaches band. I know when its time to move on, he will miss Vernon middle school.

My child comes home depressed and cries everyday and every morning she is in 9th grade and hates her school and the kids there. They do not help the children, she struggles everyday with her grades and her test and all the teenage drama has gotten to her she literally hates it there. The kids bring ciggeretts to school lighters knives it's crazy. To many kids cutting themselves at school fighting and bullying going to deal with that school is not going to change anything.

Vernon Middle School should not be a school of choice. It will take years to change all the ongoing problems. The School Board needs to make changes! Children matter!

This is the worst school either of our children have attended. The assistant principal covers up bullying, and is a former bus driver who allows the bus drivers to do whatever they want. The staff makes the kids walk around the halls with their arms crossed, terrible body language that ends up reflecting the student's attitudes. We were quite adamant that we were available to help in any way, and provided the teachers with several contact numbers and email options. Yet we rarely, if ever, heard from them even when there were academic issues we should have addressed long before report cards were issued. All in all, I would not recommend this school to anyone...especially in an open enrollment parish in which you can easily enroll your student in another school. Our student will not be attending this school next year.
