No screens (not giving Chromebooks to 5 or 6 year olds), no homework until 3rd grade and no required standardized state testing. And that's just the broad strokes of why this is a great school teaching children how to be thoughtful empathetic humans. No other educational model in New Orleans is doing the great work this school is doing.

My child has been a student at WSNO since 2017, and I am very pleased with the education that has been received thus far.

Waldorf education is different from the traditional American-style curriculum, but is nonetheless, overall very effective. My child LOVES school and often tells me she wishes the day was longer. Academics are strong and the teachers are dedicated to their students and their work. They are also thoughtful and easy to communicate with if there is an issue. My child also loves and thrives with the integration of movement, the outdoors, and the arts into every academic subject. At WSNO, I feel that my child is becoming an inquisitive, life-long learner, which is, above all, what I hope for in education.

Do note that WSNO is not necessarily well equipped to handle the needs of exceptional learners / those with learning differences.

We attended this school for 1 year. I loved it for its individuality approach. Theres little to no diversity in terms of students and staff. Theres no team, I walked in or have been told about staff drama more than once. The old administration was wonderful. But they have a new head of school, admissions director, secretary, pedagogy director, 1st and 3rd grade teachers, etc. all in 1 year! I love the hands on approach but there is only about 3 Waldorf trained teachers. It makes me feel like this is not an authentic Waldorf school. The tuition is very expensive and very little help for parents besides fundraisers. Theres little was an incident 2 years ago where a student said that a teacher used corporate punishment. There was another incident where a teacher gave a child something that made them ill. I found there was a lot of credibility to these 2 events and we decided to pull our child immediately. Safety is lacking at the school. You can leak thru the gate and see the teachers on the playground on their phones. This has been my experience at the St. Rose campus.

Waldorf School in New Orleans is a wonderful option in a beautiful location that will exceed your expectations. The staff is kind and cares deeply about your children and their development into productive young adults. The Waldorf method is a proven technique that focuses on a positive application and execution of relatable ideas with how the world functions not only on an educational front yet just life in general through our relationship with the world around us that we are so lucky to be a part of. If your childs future is important to you, Waldorf school is a superb choice that you will look back and be grateful to have chosen.

I am a new parent at the Waldorf School of New Orleans. My son recently joined kindergarten and, after doing a lot of research and school tours throughout the city, I decided to apply for this school, and am incredibly grateful that I did. Waldorf's curriculum really appealed to me. I loved the idea of focused blocks of time to understand subjects and concepts. When I was in school, we would just have 50min per subject matter and continually move throughout our days and weeks with byte-sized chunks of learning. This is not the case at Waldorf. Subjects are taught in blocks and can take weeks this allows for the information to be absorbed as much as possible before the student moves on to the next subject. I appreciate that this school sends reports instead of just letter grades. Letter grades, in my opinion, do not adequately and accurately define the capability of a student. Students are also with the same teacher for several years, so there is an investment in the teacher to really try to understand and get to know the student. The teacher does not start with a fresh group of students every year; they learn and grow with each other year after year. I am a big proponent of the low to no tech environment. Our technological devices control our movements, our attention spans, our emotions, etc. This school gives the children an opportunity to develop themselves without these distractions to learn concepts without the support of a computer (for the first few years). I am not worried that this will muffle my son's technological literacy, because what it will expand is his ability to dream and create skills that will support his future career, communication skills, confidence, and personal development. I encourage you to tour the school and see how it can work for you and your family.

Students stay with the same teacher until 6th grade. Also, the school has a serious diversity issue (diversity of race/ethnicity and thought) along with communication issues. Your child will be behind educationally and socially.

No school is perfect, but this one is as close as it gets. Our family has been a part of the school for 8 years, so we have seen a lot of what goes on both inside the classroom and within the school community. There have been changes and growth, but the school has stayed true to its Waldorf philosophy as much as is possible in a small, developing school where resources are thin. The teachers are excellent - certified and Waldorf trained. The administration works hard to streamline operations. Parent involvement is skewed - a few devoted families carry the heaviest load in volunteering.
