Administration is a mess overall. Emails go unanswered unless you really, really push. Negligent safety standards and maintenance. My child is doing great but I’m ready to see what else is out there. Too much negative stuff going on at Ecole Bilingue and no one seems to want to make changes. Very frustrating.

The school encourages communication with each child and how they play with one another. Use words. Talk it out. I'm not sure of any policy to follow of strike 1, strike 2, etc. Admin deals with it on a case by case purpose I guess.

We love this school. We love the administration, who work tirelessly for our little community. We love the parents. We meet people different from us but we all have similar goals for our children's education. I really think this is one of the best schools in the city. It's not perfect, but really, truly, no school is. I grew up in New Orleans and each school fits a person differently. We couldn't be happier we chose EB. There was a mass exodus of some students a few years ago and at the time, seemed really dramatic. But honestly, since they've been gone, it's been a peaceful, friendly, and family-centered environment and the school has flourished.

Given every school parent body has so many opinions, I have been very impressed with the principle's responsiveness and dedication (She is even out in the rain helping with the carpool line!) The Vice P is adding some really great tech options. The after school programming is fantastic for the parents who cannot shuttle their kids all over town but still want them to do fun enrichment things.

I appreciate the French homework. It is fun and uses apps my kid loves. The English homework not so much as it seems a bunch of rote memorization ripped from a textbook.

There are a few things that make me believe this is a great school, not perfect (no school is) but great. One, our child is surrounded by an internationally diverse community which has expanded her worldview beyond the local. Second, while Ecole's program does follow some testing protocols, it is not a major part of the school year as in the public schools. These were priorities for us in wanting a holistic and cosmopolitan education for our kid.

This is our son's second year in the pre-K program, and we have found the school to be very friendly and welcoming. We love meeting the other parents, who tend to be quite interesting, professional, and warm. The principal, Pauline Dides, is an incredible person who can easily converse with any parent about their child's successes and challenges. She appears to genuinely care about each student. She and the other administrators seem fully devoted to developing and improving the school. We are delighted to be part of this small, caring school community.

As a staff member at Ecole Bilingue, I love the diverse community that I work in. Throughout the past five years, I have been surrounded by students, parents, and co-workers that hail from places all over the world: France, Belgium, Cameroon, Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, England, Ireland, Switzerland, Croatia, Jordan, Lebanon, Russia, Australia, Japan, Reunion, etc. This creates a global perspective that encourages a thirst for knowledge and culture in our students. The children get to go on field trips to the Ogden, T.R.E.E., Love Swimming, NOMA, Audubon Zoo, etc. I love seeing how much our students grow every year. Our kids develop into well-rounded individuals who do great things for the New Orleans community, thrive academically, and are self-reliant. I wish I had the opportunity to go to Ecole Bilingue as a child. EB is truly a family. I love our amazing school!

Both of our children are currently enrolled at Ecole Bilingue. The staff are nurturing and supportive, especially of the younger children as they adjust to a formal school setting. The breadth of education for my daughter who is in 1st grade is impressive and she is blossoming as a student. The children's success is everyone's priority, from administration to teachers to support staff. The environment of the school feels like family, and we could not be happier!

This is a very small environment of caring, compassionate, and highly effective teachers. The students are well prepared and do extremely well when they transition into the top private high schools in the city, many testing into honors classes.
Yes, charter schools are an option, but if you are looking for a small, close knit community, with a top notch education, then this is the place for you!!!

A mediocre education all around, as the school's ever-shrinking population and tiny enrollment in the upper grades attest. The mass exodus of students to the excellent French immersion charter schools continues. Not sure what parents could be thinking to have their children in grade levels of three, four, five students per grade. A type of eccentric homeschooling collective? We made our move along with the majority of our child's classmates over a year ago, and there is no doubt that the education in the French charter schools is very much superior in every way.

In his 7th year at Ecole Bilingue, my 5th grade child is still thriving, eager to learn, and has a deeper understanding of the world than I did at his age. Each year, there is some noticeable improvement in the school and gets better every year. Many former parents are still involved with the school, which speaks volumes. Their children transitioned seamlessly to American schools and have shined. The school is committed to ensuring academic excellence in bilingual education and we've been impressed with the development of the English program. I have no doubt that this school is setting my child up for success as a student in a traditional American school and as a human being. He is so happy at this school.

We left a French charter school to come to Ecole Bilingue and are loving it so far. Much smaller classes, less chaos, great teachers and the staff and other families have been very welcoming to us.

This is my family's 10th year at Ecole Bilingue and we continue to be impressed by the education our children are receiving. The teacher student ratio is excellent and the support is amazing. Another area where Ecole stands out is in the recess and outdoor time given to the children, which is higher than most schools in the city. Both my children are speaking fluent French, we tested them in France this summer. In addition, their English comprehension and reading is very good. The support for kids with learning challenges improves every year and is the best it has ever been. The mix of families at Ecole is another bonus. It is made up of a diverse array of people from all backgrounds and nationalities. Ecole is shaping a wonderful group of well rounded, empathetic kids who go on to great success when they move into the America school system in middle and high school.

If I can make it through the year, this will be our last year. I had faith that the new assistant principle would improve the academics and the unscrupulous treatment of parents; but nothing has changed. We are lied to by the administration about any number of things, significant or not. We are told there are benefits to this school that are not enjoyed by the others and it simply isn't true. Ecole Bilingue is attempting to duplicate some of the more enriching programs at other schools and I appreciate the effort; but it's falling flat because Ecole Bilingue hasn't the budget or flare to accomplish these efforts in any kind of meaningful way. Our kids are being left behind.

Homework in elementary school has been proven to be damaging to children. It takes away from their interests, hobbies and family time. I have spoken to families at Lycee Francais who have no homework in K and tiny amounts of fun homework in 1st and 2nd grade that is not daily. That is one of the reasons why the Lycee kids test comparably to the students in the most successful non-immersion programs in the city. They tested comparably to Lusher (one of the best schools in the state) in English. It's because those students are taught a passion for learning instead of being bogged down with meaningless busy work at too young an age.

We are leaving the school after several years of my child's confidence being eroded by unkind criticism. In the pre-school, their behavioral expectations are too rigid. Little kids wiggle and many have loud voices. They shouldn't be made to feel bad because of it or get red marks for their daily behavior due to normal age appropriate energy. In kindergarten, we are given daily homework which is ridiculous for any elementary school kid and especially poor practice for five year olds. It is a struggle every day and my child feels dumb for having a difficult time with it. The issue has been brought up time and time again and the adminsitration is dismissive and completely ignorant of the fact that there is no benefit to homework in elementary school. It has been proven incontrovertibly by numerous studies. This school is doing long term damage to its students. Kids belong playing outdoors and learning through free play that is guided by their own curiosity. Denying these facts not only produces emotional problems, it is also abundantly apparent in the test scores of the older burned out kids at EB.

Pure mediocrity. Could only possibly impress parents who've had scant education themselves and thus have low expectations. A great place for mid-range children whose parents prefer a sheltered environment above all else. There is no 'international travel' beyond the possibility of a trip abroad to France (never happened all the years we were there), which every French immersion school has, including the public schools.

There is a top down problem of integrity at this school that will not be solved until there is a complete turnover of board and administration. The business practices are beyond belief and will scare away anyone but the most naive and hapless.

Greatest school that I have been apart of! Great diversity, excellent teaching, fabulous leadership, growing sports teams, and a family like atmosphere. Been a part of this growing school for ten years...my children have thrived. They are far smarter than. My husband and I at their ages....they speak three languages, learning world and american history, math in two languages, arts, theater and music are a part of the day! International travel as a class. Outdoor science class. We feel blessed to be a part of the EBNOLA family for life! Incredible experience!

For elementary school the kids never have more than 15-20 minutes of work. Most nights are 5 minutes. Now all grades are asked to read 20 minutes a night. In middle school it is longer but that is expected. This school gives for less than any American school!

We have been at this school for 9 years! I love it! My children have excelled. The administration is extremely warm and tender with my children. I have looked at lots of schools over the years and always am amazed by how excellent eb is. I believe it's the best school in the city! The children graduate knowing three languages, travel to many international cities, and have friendships from around the world. The principal has earned many awards over the years for her excellent leadership and for overseeing one of the best French schools in the Americas! The new vice principal is fantastic! The attrition of their students as well as many of their teachers says a lot about the learning and working environment at EB. The administration is dishonest to the families that spend good money there and deserve accurate assessments of the students' achievements. Instead, they are told only nice things that are pleasant to hear and left unaware of learning deficiencies. In other cases, very bright children are bored and unchallenged. If you choose this school for your child, you are doing them a disservice.

They spend a lot of money on image; but when it comes to academics, they pinch pennies and the students suffer. The staff is overworked. The facilities are dirty and rodent infested. As someone with a background in child development, I can attest that there are too many shameful examples of undiagnosed children whose disabilities are not being addressed because there are no staff members with enough training to recognize their challenges or intervene.

Ecole Bilingue was established originally as a feeder preschool for the French immersion K-8 at Audubon. It has tried to become instead a private alternative to the city's excellent public French schools, but this ambition has outpaced EB's ability to establish a solid elementary. There is steady attrition from Pre-K3 on as the school fails to meet basic academic needs for all but the youngest and/or most average children, and families move on to Audubon or Lycée. It's easy to keep parents, especially those who are non-French-speaking, enchanted with French songs and dances, videos, pastries and costumes in the early years. But eventually, the kids actually have to learn something to keep apace of their contemporaries at other schools, both French and American. My personal wake-up call was watching a recent presentation by the oldest EB children. The fourth and fifth graders were reading, not reciting, from books in both French and English, at what seemed to me first or second grade level in both languages. Only two or three students had what I would consider to be fluent French, and the lack of proficiency in English was positively alarming. The school is quite different from what it was several years ago; it appears EB was more academically focused in the past. In response, attrition has reached a peak with 1/3 of the school population, including 1/2 of its largest, flagship class (the current second grade) leaving, most of them to Lycée and Audubon. My child is now at Lycée, where we have found a much more rigorous, more intensely French academic program, as well as a fantastic, efficient, beautifully imagined and expertly executed English curriculum. Perhaps the best role for EB would be to return to its original purpose, now that there are so many other fabulous French immersion elementary schools in the city. There are long waiting lists to get into both Audubon and Lycée in grades Pre-K4 & K (100 children+). If EB could focus on dispatching superbly the five grades from Crèche through Kindergarten, it would fill a genuine need in the city as a feeder preschool to those schools. Incidentally, regarding the marketing that makes it sound like a tony little private school: both campuses were infested with rats last year, and the 'small class size' is nothing but the unintended result of many of its formerly most dedicated families giving up and leaving.

Sadly this school is a shade of its former self. Note that the positive reviews date back to 2011, the last time there was a campaign by the school to write positive reviews in order to prevent it from going under. There has now been a second mass exodus from Ecole Bilingue with a third of the elementary school students leaving in the last year, most of them to competing French immersion programs at Lycee Francais and Audubon. The last time this happened was four years ago. At least then the school's troubles were limited to things like communication, shabby facilities, and the inexperience of the school leadership as well as an internal theft by a school employee. Now the school is in an altogether different level of crisis because the academics have suffered, the school is in financial trouble after putting all its money into a middle school building it did not need, and many families have moved on in frustration only to discover at the new schools that their children are far behind academically. It is a great shame. Ecole Bilingue is failing and will not be around much longer in a city with multiple superior French immersion options.

This school is a train wreck. My children were excellent students at this school for 3 years but we finally had to leave. The education is sub par and It is a miserable place full of meanness run by a less than competent administration and Board . The school's most recent advertising campaign is a perfect example. The school is advertising everywhere in print that they are the "only private, only accredited" French immersion school in New Orleans (see NOLA Baby publication, October issue). Not true. The truth is they are the only "private" French immersion school in New Orleans (that's a joke too!) but NOT the only accredited. There are two other FAR superior accredited French immersion schools in the city (Audubon and Lycee). Ecole Bilingue is aware of their false advertising but they are so desperate for students they have resorted to lying in print. This small school of what used to be about 200 students had over FIFTY students leave for this current school year because of the problems and subpar education... AND more have left since school has begun in August 2015! EB marketing spin will tell you these students left to attend American schools or for monetary reasons but this is also an untruth. Until the Board and administration are wiped clean EB will remain a train wreck. I feel terribly sorry for the poor new Vice Principal they cajoled into taking the job - I think he is powerless and had no idea what he was getting himself into. Trust me when I say EB is not worth a dime - there are many other GREAT immersion options in New Orleans. Consider yourself warned....

We have been at the school for 5 years and love it. It has provided a challenging and loving environment for our child. He has made lots of friends, his French is excellent and he is thriving in both art and music. We especially like the fact that this school is fully accredited by the France educational system. Ecole Bilingue is also on the verge of expanding its footprint and adding a middle school. We cannot say enough about this cool little school, the wonderful teachers, the caring admin and its deciated parents.

We really wanted to love this school; but I am just not impressed. The public schools have much more to offer in terms of cleaner and better equipped campuses, more staff on hand to assist the children, and more challenging curriculums. EB is more focused on expansion than the needs of its students and they don't address the concerns of the parents at all.

We don't love everything about EB, but, having been at another private school, I understand that it is impossible to be completely happy with anything all the time. Every concern is valid to someone and should be handled with the utmost respect and considered valid when those complaints concern a child until a resolution has been reached. Even though I have been annoyed in the past with both teachers and administration, it has always been my experience that while I might be irritated with someone or the workings regarding the school, my child has always been in a wonderful, nurturing, and safe environment.

We have 3 children at Ecole Bilingue and could not be happier. We have attended Ecole Bilingue for 4 years. The attention that is given to each of our 3 children's different learning styles, personalities and social needs is invaluable. They truly look at the individual. It is safe and kind environment at the same time challenging. We are confident with the education they are receiving. We have been to other bilingual schools and nothing compares!

Ecole Bilingue is a breathe of fresh air! A true hidden gem! I have looked at every private school in New Orleans! I believe with all my heart that Ecole Bilingue offers the best education in the city, state, and one of the best schools in the country! Academically you can not find a better school! My daughter has been at Ecole Bilingue for the past 4 years and I have been extremely satisfied with the results. She can read proficiently in both English and French after 1st grade (CP). The curriculum is somewhat unique, as EB has taken the best of the French system and adapted an English course of study to it. I particularly appreciate the integration of art, music, and physical activites into the coursework. What strikes me perhaps most is the family environment. The school has just under 200 children and I feel that I know many of the families, personally. The parents and staff are open-minded and tolerant, fitting well the culture of New Orleans and the way that I want my daughter to carry herself. Bilingual education isn't a fit for everyone, but Ecole Bilingue provides a nuturing, academically rigorous, and socially conscious environment for children to become citizens in our increasingly global society.

We are an expatriate family with 3 children who have lived in New Orleans since 2006. For those of you reading the reviews of this school with a view to making one of the most important decisions any parent can make, let us ensure you that the standard of education provided by Ecole Bilingue (EB) is second to none. We have 2 children currently enrolled at EB and while the option to learn a second language is a clear differentiator, all the other subjects taught as part of the school's curriculum are taught to a standard we have not encountered in any of the other schools our children have attended. We strongly believe that what you get from EB is teaching of the highest calibre in an environment that is not only diverse, inclusive and nurturing but also incredibly creative. Undoubtedly a key component of the school's success is the close involvement of it's parents in both the day to day running of the school and the decisions that are made regarding it's focus and future direction. The overwhelming majority of reviews you'll find below couldn't praise Ecole Bilingue enough, and there's a simple reason why.....it really is a GREAT school.

I have a son at Ecole Bilingue. I love that there are plenty of male teachers to provide good male role models, that all the children know each other, from 5th grade down to the pre-K classes, and that I have become friends with parents from several different classes, not just my child's class. I love that a 5th grader will stop and check on a pre-k student that fell in front of him on the playground. I love that the school helps children learn to be independent thinkers. I love the way fine arts are integrated into the curriculum. This school constantly encourages parental involvement. It also welcomes people from different backgrounds to share their differences. In a world full of judgement, I believe that this is a crucial part of character development. The creativity that the children show in their art work and in their assignments is always amazing. The children are learning French, not learning how to translate from English to French. This school offers so much more than an amazing education and bilingualism. Some of these negative reviews have nothing specific in them for anyone to respond to. Plus there is an "end of the school year survey" that is sent out to parents every year to address problems parents may have. I am a parent of two children who have been at this school for several years and I have never found a school that is more welcoming and appreciative of all that we do. The teachers encourage and challenge the students, and I am constantly amazed at the curriculum. Plus my children are speaking beautiful French! But, do not take my word for it, come and see for yourself!

EB is a wonderful school! The teachers are top notch, and the community feel that encompasses the school's teachers, administration, parents, students, and supporters is excellent, to say the least. Although I do not plan on keeping my children at the school long-term (solely due to finances), I love the school, my children love the school, and we will always support the school in any way we can.

We enrolled our 4 year old son at Ecole Bilingue in the fall and I can honestly say that it was the best parenting decision we have ever made. My husband was a little reluctant at first (primarily because he was hoping to send our son to a public school to save money) but now he is completely on board and realizes that you definitely get your money's worth and more at EB. The staff seems to have the right balance of nurturing and firmess and really has perfected the art of making learning fun. My son has been exposed to famous artists, African drumming, and so much more. The teachers are extremely creative. Not only is my son learning french, but his math skills have already taken off and his reading level (in English) is extraordinary. I feel that EB has encouraged his desire to learn and has taken the time to really get to know my child and what makes him unique. This is a special school and I am thrilled to be a part of it. I expect to be with the school for years to come.

Ecole Bilingue is a fantastic school that encompasses a diversity of both students and teachers that I have not seen in many New Orleans schools. I find teachers to be warm, loving and firm and I appreciate that. The school has very high academic standards and my 4 year old son is being exposed to art and subjects that I wasn't exposed to until the middle school level. He knows who Jackson Pollock is - I mean, come on - that's wonderful. I love that the teachers use creative techniques and a hands on approach to learning; students are not just sitting at their desks all day. The parents are very active at the school and there is an extremely cohesive social community at the school that embraces French, American and international families.

Ecole Bilingue is in a wonderful Location!!! The school is growing and thriving. What a wonderful place to be. The teachers are fantastic, our parents are involved ( which says so mcuh about a school) and the Principal knows every child by name!!! My children are thriving at EB. They speak, read and write two in two Languages. They understand that there are many different ways to teach math, measurement, time, history and geography.The rock and roll on American and French standardize tests. We are so excited that EB has announced that a Middle School will be added for 2011 and German, Spanish and engineering will be introduced. This is an incredibly rigorous school, combined with the perfect amount of nurturing.
